  1. Obviously I'm not an SI resident so my knowledge is going to be limited... but I find a few things problematic with these plans (most of the changes actually seem good but there is still an elephant in the room) 1. Mariners Harbor service seems to get really overcomplicated from these changes, and off peak hours you're deprived of direct service to St. George. I'm not sure how many riders would prefer the S83 to Bay Ridge over the S46 to St. George, but that's something to consider. If you want to cut back the S46 to improve reliability, perhaps switch western terminals with the S40? it shortens the route a bit so it would be a start. It also seems less necessary to restructure the S46 so significantly if you'll have the S42 along such a long stretch of Castleton Avenue supporting it as well. 2. The S59. B35 hit at it somewhat, but you're splitting up the S78 (a super route) to create another super route in the S59. If the point is to make sure there are no more 15+ KM routes on SI, then the southern Hylan portion should become it's own route entirely. The S59 has the most direct route through the island right now, on one of it's busiest streets, so efforts should be focused on improving it as a north-south route. 3. The obvious but big problem, is the money. There are some cuts from other routes which is good foresight, but I'm not sure if it's enough to have reinvestments elsewhere. The overall net of these changes is that there will be more routes and likely more service necessary. This would probably require more serious calculation though. I might make some maps in Google Maps of a few of the ideas that you and B35 have thrown around, perhaps put them together a bit better. S/W island service also seems to be a bit overcomplex in your plan, streamlining some of those routes may be a good idea in the long run. EDIT: Said file with the maps: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1e1fhgeMNnXTRNeVs9C62M12vmnM&usp=sharing I'll keep updating it with more routes. The S77 proposal is an attempt to streamline the reconfiguration of the S54 and the Hylan Blvd corridor. The S78 would continue to provide local service to the S79 SBS on the northern portion, while the new "S77" route would provide service to sections of the former S54 as well as the wester portion of Hylan. The northern terminal at Seaview Hospital is probably not optimal, I'm also considering the SI mall as a possible northern terminal.
  2. @checkmatechamp13 Do you have a more clear outline of your plan to reconfigure the SI bus system? (Something similar to my own Fantasy NYC Subway, with detailed service plans and such) I'd be interested.
  3. The sign in the mockup not a rollsign but a full-size HD screen which would display the route bullet. It's an upgrade. Also, isn't there a thread for the R211's?
  4. People are obsessed with hypothetical stations on a subway board. I never would have guessed.
  5. As far as I know there has been no info about Phase 3 & 4 past the initial public plans. Wait and see.
  6. http://ltvsquad.com/2007/01/21/tomb-ov-the-unknown-tunnel/ The fact that the article intentionally witholds information is suspicious to me. The pictures seem real but who knows if they are at this so-called unexplored tunnel or if it is somewhere we have already found? "It’s almost impossible to find, and for the moment we’re not going to give any real clues. Mysteries like this one keep people exploring." Please. Just a pathetic excuse to cover up mistruth. If this truly exists then the should be aware of it.
  7. Was it really necessary to post all that with those ridiculously large images? Articles with proposed extensions to St. Albans hardly qualify as proof. And anyone dedicated enough with a good imagination can describe a station which never existed. Why are there no confirmed images of the station? Why is all the information about the station only coming through this "tunnelrat" figure? Smells like a lie. Until I see proof I'm not believing otherwise. All skimming the SubTalk thread told me is that others are equally as skeptical as I am. It seems some believe there may be an incomplete station shell there but nothing more. Probably far more likely than a secret station that was walled off after being used.
  8. One could make the argument that the could use the support since the area up there is growing in recent years, and the isn't the most reliable line in the world. Then again, the also runs up to Washington Heights and is more reliable than the , so it is probably not that necessary right now. In the 30+ years that it would likely take for any 125th Street crosstown to happen, that could change.
  9. If the SAS were to be extended west to St. Nicholas Avenue (reminder that this is unconfirmed and largely hypothetical as well), the existence of the extra "express" tracks between 125th and 145th Streets would provide an easy way to connect CPW to the 125th Street subway. If it can be feasibly done, then it should be done.
  10. Could be fabricated. The fact that every other unfinished and abandoned shell or station has been documented with plans and images and this "station" is not is inherently suspicious. People should be skeptical until proof of trains operating there is presented. The only photo that was said to exist has already been proven to have been doctored, which further leads credence to the fact that the entire existence of the station is a lie.
  11. It's not overcrowding, it's people being inconsiderate a**holes. It happens everywhere, so it's worth knowing it isn't exclusive to any part of the city. People seem to be unable to move to the back of the bus to make room at the front. It boggles my mind.
  12. One also has to consider the engineering aspect... 125th Street east of about St. Nicholas lies over a very large fault line which causes the entire Manhattan Valley there (which is why the 125th Street station is on a viaduct in the first place). Building a subway line there would be a difficult engineering feat and would be extremely expensive. Any prospective 125th Street line probably wouldn't go far past St. Nicholas Avenue.
  13. IIRC, the property owners on the northern side of Eastern Parkway didn't want to allow the IRT to build on that side of the street, forcing the awkward junction and the double decked line under Eastern Parkway east of Franklin.
  14. Maintaining that kind of paint on subways is far more difficult than doing so on a bus, and it is far more susceptible to graffiti.
  15. I'm not sure it would really be 100% necessary. Considering the distance between a lot of the stations, the line already functions as a "poor man's express" as it was previously described. As long as the tracks can handle the load of the TPH (likely 25-30+ TPH if a second line is added along with the ) then it's not really necessary to have express tracks.
  16. Not all of them are being retired by the R179's anyway. They're nostalgic but they really need to go at this point. The fact that some of them may be in service until 2022 is mind boggling. They will probably hold the record for longevity among subway cars for a very long time.
  17. 6th Avenue is... complicated. The express tracks are in between and below the local tracks, which themselves are above the PATH tracks. So in order of depth... 6th Avenue Local PATH 6th Avenue Express The tracks under 6th Avenue are a mess due to things being completed at different times so it's rather confusing. 2nd Avenue likely wouldn't have similar issues, the only problem there is money.
  18. Still wondering if they'll bother applying that wrap to the rest of the fleet. (At least buses that aren't due to be retired in <5 years)
  19. The current plan to build the 125th Street station at Lex and then have the or run to the Bronx using the northern provision is rather dumb, since it means that all Bronx 2nd Avenue trains would have to bypass 125th Street, unless they moved the station.
  20. I find it interesting how it shows the , despite the fact that the technically isn't part of that trunk anymore... probably an old glitch.
  21. Not surprising, considering the Auto Show is a multiple week event and Comic Con was over a weekend.
  22. Just wondering, why isn't this thread pinned like the variant in the Subway sub-forum?
  23. Apparently the initial ridership was projected to be even higher, but development in the area has been relatively slow. Comic-Con probably also helped.
  24. Actually, I would have the run to Utica and let the run local east of Franklin to New Lots. Weekend service wouldn't be necessary then.
