  1. Man the amount of time I seen people get n board the train and directly find the nearest bathroom
  2. Those afternoon/evening weekend NEC Line trains are absolutely packed with people Conductor could not even start collecting tickets. Can’t even imagine how much fare revenue NJT is losing when I took the train 5 straight weekend and my ticket was only lifted once! And those arrow III are nice, but I don’t know if they belong on NEC. Way too few capacity
  3. https://www.njtransit.com/hearing Effective July 1st 2024 - One way ticket will expire in 30 days instead of forever - Flexipass will be discontinued - Annual 3% fare increase starting in 2025 Why are fares still not rounded to the near .25 is still beyond me. Requiring people to keep carrying dimes and nickel is ridiculous
  4. But the stops are spaced way too close together as it currently stands. That contributes to the slow speeds the bus currently travels at. I believe most people will get to the new stops just fine in most parts
  5. They seem to recognize the fact that the main ridership on the n54/55 doesn’t really care which variant they end up on. There is very few riders who get on at either Broadway or Washington Ave I also don’t understand why they are running the routes the way they are. Maybe because this way they can cover the whole day with one split crew? On weekdays the main transfers in Amityville is atleast on paper pretty frequent Relying on NICE in general makes you wish you have a car The service gets especially bad after 7-8pm. The ridership is there but the frequency really ramps down Regarding the n4 . Wish they had some RVC short turns like I believe the MTA used to have. Too bad they don’t have the yard there anymore
  6. The 8 minute headway on the and the is making QBL service hell a lot better Now trains come pretty reliability and the wait time seem manageable. There were 3 and 2 before a even showed up. That is the service MTA should be providing to QBL on weekend. That is the service MTA provided until 2010s. Unfortunately that corridor has been stuck in perpetual construction
  7. Close to 0% and even if so definitely they will not build it based on how it used to be built and look Oh and it will still cost 25 billion so don't get mistaken, its the we are talking about here. The Rockaway Beach activation cost 8.1 Billion so...
  8. https://www.nicebus.com/Passenger-Information/Now n54/55 will have somewhat of a better connection with all the other timed routes in SCT especially on weekends. n55 will run hourly on Saturday now instead of every 90 minutes, providing every 30 minish service along with n54 n24: Service on weekend now split at Roosevelt Field. Slightly more frequent service west of RF, slightly less frequent east of there, with absolutely zero effort to connect the two halves. (man the eastern n24 is completely done for at this point). They also need to work on the transfers, because I stop trusting NICE with my Metrocard, as it always double charged me. n6: short turns not on the schedule between UBS and Jamaica? I would argue it should atleast continue out to Elmont Rd n1: Slightly more frequent n1 service with short turnsaat Green Acre. Yeah they didn't really need that many buses south of Green Acre anyways n35: Some buses now terminate at Roosevelt Field (out of both Westbury and Baldwin) most likely to bring the buses/driver back to Mitchell Field Depot and reduce deadhead They also suspended all n72 bus "temporarily". All trips continue to Farmingdale State College. Not sure if they cut any service there. That n71S is still alive and will have a 4 min connection from all SCT pulses, and make all outgoing SCT pulses as well. It will also have what seems like timed connections at Farmingdale State College with n70 as well (weird they can do that but provide completely unusable connections for n22/24 passengers)
  9. I don’t believe the 2 west of Babylon will do as bad as you envisioned. From my experience riding the buses out there n19 carried more ridership than the loop S20 along Montauk Highway, so hopefully this new 2 will get some of that ridership back. I still would rank it slightly higher than the 5 I agree with your assessment on the 4. That thing is a straight shot from Smith Haven to Central Islip/Brentwood, and makes multiple good connections with other routes Regarding the 12 I would definitely rank that above the 62. The new 12 routes is better than the old 2A/B which went down every single side street they serve. That route doesn’t have good connections that the other Bay Shore routes have though The 62 is just way too long of a route. Smith Haven - PJ should be fine but there is a long stretch of route between PJ and Riverhead proper where it carries air
  10. I can understand Amityville and Riverhead as those are mostly terminating routes But Smith Haven just doesn’t work… not only is the bus loading area utter confusion, (what’s with the county not installing signs anyways) but you also can’t time the routes entering Smith Haven properly. There is just too many through routes CI and Brentwood I am conflicted. I do believe we should have atleast one pulse point here to provide connections between different directions, but having pulse points at both is too much The 4 should either fit into Brentwood or Central Islip. It shouldn’t need to make both
  11. Finally rode the new SCT today… man things didn’t go out as planned at all Tried to take the 4 from Amityville to Smith Haven. The bus left on time at 3:30pm but we got to Wyandanch RR 12 min ahead of schedule. The driver ended up sitting there for 42 min!! for a driver swap. Seems like the 4pm out of amityville either have no drivers or is very late so EBT combined the two together. Now we missed both the 4:30 and the 5:00pm timed connection points. Add on to the Black Friday traffic we were up to 40 min late at one point. The bus got to Smith Haven only 25 min late though. In this case it looks like the padding helped out Tried to take the 6:48pm 51 bus to catch the 2 at Patchogue but that bus either came too late (>30 min) or left over 15 min early because I never seen it. End up taking the 58 to the 5 at Brentwood, mostly because the 5 was nowhere to be found when the 58 came. The 58 arrived smith Haven mall 20 min early. The 5 eventually got to Brentwood and we sat there for 12 minutes which is fine by me. We left on time and by the time we got to Deer Park Ave the bus was 10 min early. And it stayed early until Babylon. They really need to tightened the schedule especially between segments that are not timed connection points. No reason the bus should be 10 -15 min early between Deer Park - Babylon and Amityville - Wyandanch .I am fine with the bus sitting longer at pulse points honestly, but just not more than once. (Looking at you 4). They do have a new interesting set up at Brentwood and CI. What they need to do is have an arrive time and a depart time at those pulse points in timetable Smith Haven Mall is a joke. If you didn’t tell me I would’ve never knew that was a timed connection point. Buses were either late or no show or super early. SCT still need to work on its operations, because buses are either running super early not showing up or super late. It is really unbelievable how bad the operation was today. Unlike many systems I ridden, even though they call it timed connection, I never got the sense of safety that I will actually make the connection! The routes are good. There is coverage loss but the routes are now much straighter and more direct. I would say they are better than the older routes. The timed connection works great on paper. Finally SCT feels like a network of routes. But there is still a lot they need to improve. I will try to make it out there to ride more route to see if today was just especially bad
  12. Some thoughts on the new schedule SC Clipper: There has to be something wrong with this schedule. There are no return PM trips back to Farmingville S1: On weekday it looks like there will actually be a service cut. Currently it is every 15 minutes during the peaks, that will be cut to every 30 minutes to make the pulse S66: I wonder if they really need to go to Riverhead Peconic Center. They could've saved a bus if they didn't go out that way, and force people to transfer at the LIRR station to the S80 That being said, seems like they moved the connections from Riverhead County Center to Riverhead LIRR Station
  13. They updated the fares and passes page to reflect the new MTA pass fare but kept the base fare https://transportation.westchestergov.com/bee-line/fares-and-metrocard If they want to raise it they probably need to hold public hearings soon
  14. To my surprise, Bee Line is still $2.75 for both Metrocard and Coin payment. You still get a transfer to the MTA Looks like they decided to not follow the MTA fare hikes
  15. I doubt it, unlike the A&C bus and the routes O.N.E are shutting down, the remaining O.N.E operations are all NJT contracted operation. That means they get paid for the service provided. Something the routes being discontinued never got.
  16. There is yield management on Amtrak though, so last minute tickets are usually very expensive, but if you can plan weeks ahead, its better than MNR, but if you are spontaneous and last min, MNR pricing is still cheaper and more flexible as they usually have more trains
  17. Full proposal is now posted https://portal.ct.gov/DOT/Publictrans/Bureau-of-Public-Transportation/Service-and-Fare-Equity-Analysis There is a planned fare increase for rail service as well. CT Transit will have a increase in funding
  18. Port Authority facilities usually charge per departure I believe They will probably just shut the entire division down similar to what they did with Red and Tan and etc If NYS offers a operating subsidy they could have short line make a couple of stop north of the state border
  19. NJT itself is reaching a fiscal cliff once the federal pandemic money dries up. On top of that now you have them expanding service to replace these lost routes… it is not looking good in the next couple of years for NJ Rockland Coaches will be the next to go…
  20. If you are trying to make a profit, transit buses are NOT the way to go. Transit buses require a lot of drivers, a lot of buses for very little yield. You can not provide an adequate headway with one or two buses. You will need like 10. You could easily lose tens of thousand in a month Plus operator utilization. Will be extremely inefficient as well, if you plan to operate the traditional ramp up AM/PM and ramp down Miday/Night service pattern Plus all private bus operators will need a curbside permit for every stop they intend to make, and getting those permit require community approval and hearing. That is without even factoring in the MTA offering a better wage/benefit and the current driver shortage If you were to start a company I would recommend long distance intercity operation. Requires the less buses, better driver utilizations, and slightly better yields
  21. It will be two separate runs (one bus AM and one bus PM), but yes there will be one bus in operation at a time.
  22. Here is another research topic, Look up the times the Ferry arrives at St George, and ow look at when the local/expresses leave St George. Look at when the SIR arrives at St George, then look at when the Ferry leaves St George. See a pattern?
  23. What? Ultimately it all come down to politics.
  24. They stop at Poughkeepsie for the benefit of people coming from further north. The primary purpose of Amtrak is not to serve passengers between Poughkeepsie and NYC. I am also pretty sure MNR owns the track from Grand Central up to Poughkeepsie as well
