  1. Please, don't get this thread locked. I get the sense that this thread is on a short leash with the moderators; remember what Lance said? The moderators don't seem to be a big fan of these quiz/game threads, and this new "surge of foam" is going to give them a good excuse to end what was has been a fun discussion.
  2. Oh, gee, where are we headed? Remember the flame war, here, just over a week ago? And how this thread almost got locked? This is a cool thread, where people can come up with practical solutions to fairly realistic problems. It teaches people, including me, about the inner workings of our system, and really gets your brain working sometimes to come up with these re-routes. It would be a shame to get this thread closed just because of a few foamerish posts. This is not an attack on a specific person, but just a concern about the general direction of this thread. I am trying to say this in a way that doesn't sound like I'm moderating, but let's PLEASE get this back on track. NEXT: Northern part of Roosevelt Island collapses; trains cannot pass through this area on the 60th St and 63rd St tunnels. 53rd St tunnel is fine.
  3. Okay, create a new route, the (Y), from Coney Island to... Sorry, I couldn't help it either. Hopefully this qualifies as limited foaming: Coney Island - Queens Plaza platform single-track shuttle, Astoria-Ditmars Blvd - Queensboro Plaza on the Manhattan-bound track via 63 St line Times Sq - Court Sq Flushing/Main St - 61 St-Woodside
  4. terminates at 2 Av terminates at Bay Pkwy, local on 4 Av terminates at Kings Hwy and Av X terminates at 36 St Prospect Park - Ocean Pkwy
  5. Let's not get started with this...I can remember the last time this kind of stuff happened .
  6. 207 St - 59 St-Columbus Circle Far Rockaway/Lefferts Blvd - High St Suspended Jamaica Center - 34 St-Herald Sq Suspended 205 St - 34 St-Herald Sq Coney Island - Whitehall St Jamaica-179 St - 57 St Coney Island - Delancey St Coney Island - Jamaica center re-routed via the between Bergen St and Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av Metropolitan Av - Broad St Local in Brooklyn
  7. runs to New Lots Av runs local below Times Sq-42 St terminates at 14 St runs via Manhattan Bridge, with some trains terminating at Court St terminates at Essex St suspended terminates at Greenpoint Av runs local between 14 St-Union Sq and Brooklyn Bridge to provide transfer to at Bleecker St; then transfer to at Delancey/Essex Sts service runs less frequently Lower Manhattan customers can also take to W 4 St to transfer to
  8. Usually emergency service changes are not designed to save the MTA cash; I think it's good to keep the route as normal as possible by sending it to its normal terminal, Flatbush Av.
  9. I don't see why people are suggesting the to New Lots or Brooklyn Bridge; it can just go to Flatbush as usual.
  10. Are you sure that the single track at 14 St can handle all of the service? BTW, I meant to run the local between 34 St-Penn Station and Chambers St.
  11. Oh, gee... .Interesting challenge, though: downtown trains terminate at 34 St-Penn Station. Because of capacity constraints, some trains leave service and go to 137 St Yard runs normally to Flatbush Av most trains run via Manhattan Bridge, some Manhattan bound trains terminate at Court St
  12. Okay, that makes sense. NEXT: W 8 St-NY Aquarium Station collapses. No or trains can pass by. Try to solve this without suspending the , as the NIS trains would have to be put somewhere.
  13. All I'm trying to say is that a bunch of people thought the stuck would not block 6th AND 8th Av service, but the nycsubway.org diagram shows that it would.
  14. But the flying junction that you guys were talking about, in the nycsubway.org diagram, doesn't exist.
  15. Wait a second. The nycsubway.org map doesn't show anything of this sort. Where did you get this picture?
  16. trains run via between 149 St-Grand Concourse and Nevins St trains run local between 34 St-Penn Station and Chambers St some downtown trains terminate at 34 St-Penn Station
  17. Yes, I was. Thanks for specifying what I didn't make clear.
  18. But the uptown local track connects with the switch. If an train gets stuck while switching, it will block the 8 Av local track.
  19. I still don't understand what either of you are talking about. It's just a regular switch between two adjacent tracks.
  20. What flying junction? It looks very clear that a train could block both the 6th and 8th Av Line tracks.
  21. NEXT: train is stuck on the switch on the uptown track south of W 4 St connecting the 6th and 8th Avenue Line tracks. The uptown 6th and 8th avenue local tracks are impassible in that area.
  22. trains run express between Canal St and 59 St trains run in 2 sections: between 34 St-Herald Square and Coney Island via 6 Avenue Express, between Norwood-205 St and 2 Av via 8 Avenue Local trains run via between W 4 St and Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av
  23. Are you sure that the single track at Whitehall can handle both the and the ? And why would you terminate the at 34 St? Also, if this is an unexpected service change, where will you store all of the NIS trains? Send them to the yard and clog other tracks to get them there?
