Bay Ridge used to not have that many Arabs. It's one of the last old school "ethnic" neighborhoods in South Brooklyn (historically the area had a large Scandinavian population (Norweigans in particular), followed by Italian-Americans and Irish-Americans), and thus there is resentment to the new comers who obviously are not white. They've generally been contained to the beginning of Bay Ridge in the North around 68th/69th streets and 5th, but as those people have children...

...and move up the economic ladder, that may change. Bay Ridge is still pretty white, but change is always a tough thing. As a Brooklynite from South Brooklyn, I still love the area regardless... One of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Brooklyn.
