  1. They've already had R211s run simulated service on the for thermal capacity testing over the summer so it wouldn't surprise me to see production sets on the occasionally as they phase out the R46s. I could see them doing that particularly on weekends like how the used to borrow a few R160s from the and to give some of the Jamaica R46s a rest before 2020.
  2. Ah I see now… looks like the downtown local track (and the switch the would use to reach the downtown express track) is not in service
  3. Actually upon further review, that looks like R211S 500 next to 4088 Unfortunately the photo is low quality but I tried to blow up the paper in the window.
  4. R211A 4085 is hiding in the back of this advertisement which means they’ve got at least 20 cars already done.
  5. The R211A consist is doing simulated stops on the tonight. It was seen at Fulton Street going uptown.
  6. As far as I can tell the WMATA issue is a combination of a track related issue and a spec change made by WMATA to the 7000 series during construction which affected the structure integrity of their axles. Their solution at the moment is to do inspections of both more frequently to catch defects faster.
  7. I would expect they would be 3400-4039 since that happens to be exactly 640 cars and fits nicely with the existing batch of 4040-4499. Option 2 would then start at 4500.
  8. Three of the top ten "hottest" neighborhoods in NYC in terms of both housing searches and transactions (Red Hook, Gowanus & Fort Greene) are served by the . I doubt it would be empty for long.
  9. If the went to 8 cars, then they would just discontinue OPTO on the weekends the same way they did to the during the Canarsie Tubes project. Also there is no way they would ever schedule 12-15 minute frequencies on the . That would be political suicide.
  10. Anyone who suggests cutting the from Broad to Chambers should be laughed out of the room. Point blank period end of discussion.
  11. While I'm not a fan of running the on weekends, using train sets stored at Concourse on a more frequent weekend service is something that should be looked into.
  12. I would increase service on the before bringing back the on weekends, but I guess that's just me. Interlining may make this more difficult but I would try to get the & to run a consistent every 8 minutes on Saturdays and Sundays to pick up the slack. IINM the already does so.
  13. Serious question for the technically minded folks: how possible would it be to install a "simplified" CBTC system on the museum fleet that sends out its location so the system knows where it is and receives signals from it (almost like cab signalling) but doesn't include ATO, so that museum trains can continue to operate as more and more sections of track are cut over?
  14. 5913 at Manhattanville, parked in the lot next to Riverside Drive
  15. I wouldn't mind this if it was the same kind of illustration as the classic NYCT depot stickers like ENY, Amsterdam, Flatbush and Kingsbridge (incidentally I almost typed "the classic NYCT depot stickers from the 90's" ; do we actually know when depot stickers were first created?) This one looks too much like the clip arty style of illustration the MTA Bus stickers have and it just doesn't look right
  16. The R211Ts are now out and about on the system doing clearance tests
  17. I'm not sure how exactly they plan to turn around in that area but its called Industry City and it has shops, restaurants, office space and stuff like that https://industrycity.com/
  18. They're abandoning that landing because the channel isn't deep enough and ferries keep grounding
  19. I just want to know what's by 1st Av and 58th St that's worthy of rerouting the B64 over there when it's already used as a pretty important crosstown route and the only route between western Bay Ridge and the zoned middle school in Dyker Heights. The Brooklyn Army Terminal isn't *that* much of a ridership generator. B11s over there are generally empty... I just don't get it.
  20. I'm late to the party on this but I have a few questions for anyone proposing that one yard lend equipment to a line from another yard for the purposes of making service: 1. How are we getting the borrowed equipment to that line for the start of the GO? 2. Where is the normal equipment for that line going to go during the GO? and 3. How are we going to ensure that both the borrowed and sidelined equipment is going to be in the proper places to resume normal service when the GO concludes?
  21. 1. Because the train is using South Ferry Loop to turn and they don't want to deal with the first five cars stuff again 2. The Arnines are not available due to mechanical issues.
  22. Because it is standard practice for both parties to agree on a project duration and then the contractor gets a bonus if they hit that date and it is also common for the contractor to be docked pay if they are late. In this instance where the MTA is refusing to activate CBTC after the contractor has completed the work, it is not only violating the contract terms it is also denying the contractor its bonus and docking pay (for it being completed late) even thought the contractor fulfilled its end of the bargain as written in the contract.
  23. And the contractor who installed it would sue you in five seconds. That's very clearly breach of contract.
  24. You are correct that the middle track is bidirectionally signaled but they put it in absolute block between 8th Avenue and 86th Street when the R211 tests. also while I’m here: there are multiple 30 minute gaps on the in the Bronx today, gee I guess they really did need the R68s to supplement after all :shrugs:
