Not saying that its impossible to do here, but the situation in SEPTA land is different because the service in question is run by Amtrak for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania which funds it. They can simply say we'll pay you to run a train every hour in a way that the MTA couldn't unless it involves the Empire Service (which is funded directly by New York State).
It's not a question of "spoiling" workers.
They had additional workers stationed at terminals whose job was specifically changing rollsigns to make sure that they were correct. Those positions were axed in the 2010 budget cuts and never came back, hence its now a problem.
I could see this happening if the option orders are also open gangway. The could use the boost in capacity. Either way as long as the get some form of CBTC equipped NTT, I'm happy.
Speaking of that G.O.:
Even though they say that the late night shuttle from Whitehall St is suspended, the last train from Forest Hills and the first two southbound shuttle trains of the night run to 9th Avenue before the suspension fully takes effect. Caught me off guard at Herald Square tonight after I unwittingly missed the last full 95th Street train.
I'm pretty sure HEETs are no longer manufactured or something along those lines...
Cubic makes a version of this turnstile with metal/plastic paddles. We could use those instead.
Actually now that I'm looking at it closer, both B18 branches have potential problems. The LTD through Fort Hamilton may be an issue (the B8 was kicked out after 9/11 by the army) and the off peak branch could theoretically continue westbound to 92nd and 3rd however coming back east would be an issue since 92nd become one way westbound west of 4th Avenue. I would have it take the current B8 route in the area since the other streets are pretty tight for a bus.
The B18 branch physically cannot make that move because 92nd Street becomes one way west of 4th Avenue
Also Bay Ridge Av on the B13 becomes one way east of 13th Avenue so its gonna have to make that turn up to 65th Street there.
To my knowledge they're being maintained at their respective depots so that all staff (drivers, mechanics, etc, etc) have experience on both types for snow loans in the future.
That being said, I'm a little surprised that Hale and Tuskegee aren't also a part of it.
Those B16 trippers always ran however they were shown in the timetable as all leaving at 2:10 and 3:00
I can personally attest to every single B16 trip being slammed up to the windows. I don't know how it is for other schools.
They're two separate contracts. The NYCT LFS diesels are option buses on the hybrid contract and the MTA Bus LFS diesels are a standalone contract awarded in December. The November delivery date comes from here: https://new.mta.info/document/68221 page 118
