  1. Again, it comes down to the fact that they don't have enough rolling stock, nor will they, to replace everything old on the IRT and BMT in one fell swoop. Unless you want to personally offer them your own cash so that they can replace everything with NTTs.
  2. And what exactly would run on Astoria? The R211s are only going to replace the 46s. There's not much free that could be used to boot the R68s off the Astoria services, and since there is no credible replacement for them in the pipeline, to get rid of them would mean cutting service dramatically.
  3. Those all sound like great options, I'll camp myself at the corner of 2nd and East 60th for maximum photo opportunities. Much obliged!
  4. Can anyone recommend the best routes in Manhattan, or as near Manhattan as possible, to catch Orion VII Hybrids (OG and NG) with the old double battery packs?
  5. Thank you to everyone who weighed in on station suggestions! I am highly appreciative. It seems like I have a good selection of stations along the South Brooklyn lines, which is always encouraging. From a quick glance at NYCSubway, I see that besides Chambers on the , Brooklyn Bridge's north end seems to have a surplus of space too, which is encouraging for the . Fortunately my hotel is right near Battery Park so I will have no issues making it to these stations at any time. South Ferry is a known quantity to me and comes with the bonus of not looking like a dungeon, so I'll need to push my camera less to get a good exposure compared to elsewhere. BTW, can anyone comment on how safe the Staten Island Railway and Dyckman Street/125 St on the are? To answer @BM5 via Woodhaven's question at the same time I am using a Canon SL3 DSLR so I'm slightly more weary of where I go compared to when I was a kid, running around with a dinky P&S camera. Bowling Green should be doable, I think, provided the train is not moving at a high rate of speed, I have more options with this camera compared to what I was running previously. Looking forward to it, should be a good trip.
  6. Hey guys! It's been 8 years since I last went to New York, but it's in the cards for me to do so again. To that end I was wondering if there are any locals that would be able to help me with selecting some best spots for photography. I am looking for recommendations for the best stations on the B/Q and D in south Brooklyn for photos of R46/68/68A cars. Ideally quieter stations but not ones that are the sketchy. I am especially wondering about Prospect Park as that would be a good location to get R68 and A shots in one spot. I am also looking to find stations in downtown or midtown Manhattan that have sufficient space out at the end of the platform to snap acceptable stationary shots of trains on the 1/2/3, 4/5/6, B/D/F/M. I am wondering if anyone has any specific recommendations. Thank you in advance to anyone who can assist!
  7. Here is your blue as requested. Your will be done this evening. Hope you enjoy!
  8. So? The R62As were a fixture on the / The R142As were a fixture on the . Things change.
  9. Sorry, I didn't read your post properly. It should've been all clear to me if I'd gotten to work right away, but I only read your request at a glance. Here you go! I'm afraid I had to change the colour of the bullet, because if it had stayed the same colour as here on the forums, it would've been the exact same colour as the background of the display. Hope that's alright. Hope you enjoy! Here you go: Hope you enjoy!
  10. Oh yes, I'd quite forgotten that the and were more limited in those days then they are now. Thanks all! The answers will likely be in the article for the two trains on Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E_(New_York_City_Subway_service)#Archer_and_63rd_Street_changes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F_(New_York_City_Subway_service)
  11. No connections there? I have to run some errands but I'll have your image ready by this evening.
  12. Was browsing NYC Subway last night and came upon this map of service from 1987. https://www.nycsubway.org/perl/caption.pl?/img/maps/system_1987.gif Would anyone more familiar with service in those days happen to know what a bolded vs non bolded letter/number at a station is supposed to indicate? Best example is along Fulton St, each station is being marked as being serviced by both the and but express stations like Euclid have the in bold. I thought it might be late night service, but I assumed that wasn't so because the map is labelled on the below page as being daytime service, and there is a separate map on there for night service. https://www.nycsubway.org/wiki/Historical_Maps#1980-Present If anyone has any idea, that would be most appreciated.
  13. That can be done, but what would you like in the terminus box?
  14. Here you go: Hope you enjoy! Please let me know if there are any errors or any other displays you'd like to see.
  15. This topic has been dead for a very long time but I thought I'd try to revive it with something that may be of interest to some of you all. For those of you who remember the R160 FIND creator, I have taken it upon myself to recreate the template that was available in that app during that time. I did my best. Here is the base template: As compared to (almost) the same image I made in the FIND creator so many years ago. The others here are a variety of fictional sign programs I've created; some from NYC, some from Toronto, and one even from as far afield as Bratislava, Slovakia. If anyone would like any signs made, feel free to post in here. All existing NYC subway colours and routes are on the table; I can also fill the route bullet in with any colour definable on the RGB spectrum and any two digit number or two letter character combination.
  16. This might come as a shock to you, but most people who ride the New York subway don't spend nearly as much time philosophizing about the nature of respect and pay directed at the subway vs. the LIRR as you do.
  17. Graphic design people: for those of who you remember Gorgor's subway FIND maker, would you happen to be able to identify the fonts used? I'm attempting to try creating some of my own based on the original template, but if anyone is able to identify the fonts used for the subway bullet, the terminal name/service information, "Accessible station", "New York City Transit", or any of the text that refers to stops along the bottom, it would be a great help. Thanks!
  18. Anyone know where the centre track near the Grant Avenue portal heads to? Was watching this video earlier, the track seen at 33:10 dips into the tunnel and then seems to run under the station platform?
