I heard a bird dying! It's the aflockolypse (snl)!

  2. Oh, how I hate breaking in a computer after a reinstallation of the operating system...

Every time I see white-on-black screen my nerves clench. That is why I need a UEFI Bios to work around.

      No way, windows FTW!

  3. IMO, the only thing that makes the R160s tolerable is the propulsion. The Siemens propulsion sounds cool, and the Alstom propulsion isn't that bad either. Hate the actual cars though.

    1. RollOver

      RollOver

I love the Siemens too. The propulsion is so sweet than the Alstom propulsion. I love the sounds of the R142As and Siemens R160Bs.

      Don't forget those PATH PA-5s....

  4. I really hate it when people compare European transit to North American transit. Especially in regards to how vehicles look on the outside.

I rather drive between cities than take mass transit. Only time I really take mass transit is when I go into Manhattan.

I dont like the European style trains, I think the stuff we have looks better.

@foxie: I fully agree with you. But to each his own, I guess.

  5. The heating on Xcelsiors is excellent. I've ridden them to and from school every day this week and they are very warm.

  6. The Orion VII is quite possibly the most over rated transit bus ever built.

Now that you know who is gone, we can again criticize that bus publicly.

    4. ttcsubwayfan

      ttcsubwayfan

@Astoria: The 3Gs look nice but I hate Toronto's. They restricted the best Orion Vs from going out on weekends.

@Threxx: Yup. No idea why he made such a big deal out of it, the VII is hardly Orion's best product. That would be the V, or the I.

  7. Just a word of notice, folks... if people don't like the way I act, speak or feel, than that is just too bad because I will not be changing the way I am for anyone.

  8. I value material objects. Get over it.

People try telling me how to live my life daily, so I can relate.

  9. So my mom's ranting about a proposed trip to New York City in October 2013 and how I am the only one that will get anything out of it... Great.

Well if it's sightseeing, you could just do some walking thru Central park and the major intersections on Broadway and it won't cost a dime other than if you need to travel by subway or bus. But in a good day you can do most of midtown, Lower Manhattan, and Central park in 2 days.

    4. ttcsubwayfan

      ttcsubwayfan

Well, the most expensive thing is actually getting there. Driving for 750 KM is expensive. Transit is not that expensive by comparison. But yes, I wish to see more of Central Park and whatnot.

  10. If you're going through hell... keep going.

  11. Wow... hit my like quota for the first time in weeks.

  13. Do you guys trust school fundraisers for charity?

Hmm...We're doing a Penny harvest for the homeless this year...Our school is rich (we have Smartboards in every room) so I'm not worried.

I don't know... we had a breast cancer awareness day yesterday and I didn't donate, because I'm not sure of where that money is going. They made a huge deal of the whole event with a lot of pink decorations which lead to me wonder if the cash is actually going to charity or if they're just using it to pay for the large amount of sports events. I'd prefer to donate to an actual charity than a school who claims to support one.

  14. What has been read cannot be unread.

  15. I really can't understand or relate to people who whine about the older buses... The interiors of buses like the VIIs are really depressing looking, and high floors are far better than low floors in the fact that you don't get your brain punched out going over every single pothole.

I like the interior of high-floors. The VII are low floors, and some of the Orion 7 designs get old to me.

    3. ttcsubwayfan

      ttcsubwayfan

I don't have any beef with the Orion 7, but considering we have over 1000 in Toronto's fleet, I got tired of them. VERY QUICKLY.

Also, my comment about high floors being better than low floors stands. I rode an Orion V on Dufferin Street last Friday. The street had potholes and bumps everywhere, and it was bad enough on the V,

    4. ttcsubwayfan

      ttcsubwayfan

...so it must be even worse on a low floor bus.

  16. Is/was passing between cars not prohibited in the New York subway? If it is, why were the modifications made to the Slants necessary?

They still looked damn hot with the gates... but they were necessary...

    3. ttcsubwayfan

      ttcsubwayfan

I'd be the first to agree with you but unfortunately you'll find that that is not an opinion shared by many. I maintain that their "as built" forms looked the best, though.

Is that the same reason why the Mods and 42s also received gates?

    4. Grand Concourse

      Grand Concourse

the slants needed the gates because it wasn't safe to pass b/w the ends of the cars. Obviously a person shouldn't be moving when the train is running, but 'it's for safety'.

  22. Why is everyone so excited about the R188s? Besides the CBTC stuff, they're virtually identical to the R142As...

the TV interviews people and they wind up talking about how they like the new Subway trains.

    4. ttcsubwayfan

      ttcsubwayfan

Well, there are a select few individuals who, for example, will notice if their home line is 'downgraded' (load of nonsense, really) from NTTs to R62As (one of the Lex. lines) but most members of the public don't know the difference between an R142 and an R62, and couldn't care less.
