This would be a great idea - but several things are folding this back - top item would be unacceptable gaps in service in Northeast Teaneck, leaving sections with only hourly bus service. This would require adding additional 167T service to fill the gap.

Now, for the state street Routing following the old 11C to New Milford - there is a large cluster of nearly 1000 apartments in that area and many commuters who drive to various bus lines so this route would do well, but would likely need to be a turnpike express full time as well, making glen point the last stop before running nonstop to PABT.

This would mean around 50 new runs per day, (good thing) but I wonder if Oradell can handle this.

the 11C (and 21) routes have had service disruption and a full time 167Q would be welcomed. There’s also the option of moving rhe 167Q to Cedar Lane/ Garrison Avenue/Sussex Road (instead of Queen Anne the whole way) since no express service runs on Cedar Lane currently (idk if you count the 168T, it makes 40 stops before entering the turnpike).

Alternatively, for Cedar Lane, the 165R can serve Cedar Lane instead of Route 4, improving travel time reliability by eliminating the unpredictability of Route 4.

if you look at this map from a Teaneck Community site, you can see the huge gap between 165 and 167 http://www.teaneckshuls.org/files/Teaneck-NY_Bus_Diagram_-_from_NJ_Transit_Gate_210_Facebook_group.pdf

I actually contacted NJT about running at least some rush hour 167Q service over the old 11C route to New Milford (those runs mostly currently terminates in Teaneck, so no loss of service) and mentioned the Avalon apartment complex on Windsor Rd and how hundreds of people per day either walk or drive to Washington Ave/Teaneck Rd to get the bus service.  They actually said the idea had merit and would look into it but they said they had to contact rockland coaches to confirm they abandoned the 11C.  Whoever that was at NJT had no clue Rockland/Coach abandoned the 11c and Saddle River took it over and has since gone out of business a few years ago.

  2. For the most part NJT won't go in where Rockland still "operates."  The 165 Rt 4 service is an exception, and is part of the reason for the demise of the 11A at least as far as Westwood.  The Pascack Valley increased service off peak and weekends as well as Covid pretty much did the rest of the damage.

I recently inquired about NJT running some service over the former 11c territory through Teaneck, bergenfield and New Milford.  NJT's response was that they had to confirm Rockland was no longer operating the route!   They were clueless that Rockland abandoned it several years ago, had no idea Saddle River had taken it over and had since gone  out of business!

I think it's a holdover from the PSCT/TNJ days. There's a 1952 schedule that shows every 167 trip serving Queen Anne Road. The 167Q is basically the local with Queen Anne Road as part of the trunk route so to speak.

Right.  All the original 167s routing went via Queen Anne Road.   They should really split the 167Q entirely and have it run via State St and then over the old R&T !!C/25 routing via Windsor Rd, New Bridge Rd and Prospect Ave to New Milford.  It would speed up the trip to New Milford and serve portions of Teaneck, BErgenfield and New Milford that lost bus service when the 11c was discontinued.

  4. Was NJT the advocate asking about restoring service in Teaneck?  Was it to the Windsor Rd area of Teaneck?

As for the 14, it still says the service is "temporarily suspended" on the CUSA website.  Same for the 21.  Although at this point, I would assume they arent going to restore those routes and if they do, who knows if there will be anyone to use them?

  5. I believe the 9/9T and 20 lines were pretty busy even off-peak before the pandemic including weekends.  The 11C was still busy at rush-hours when Rockland abandoned it, but SRT killed what was left of it.  There is a huge void in Northeastern NJ bus service without the full time current and former Rockland services (e.g. 11C, 84).   NJT should really step in and at least adjust some of its routes to cover some of this territory, although it won't as long as Rockland/R&T is still technically "operating" the routes.  They could easily run some 167Q New Milford service over the former 11C route through Teaneck, Bergenfield and to New Milford instead of having it loop back to Teaneck Rd and then going to Madison Ave to get to New Milford.  They could also adjust some 166 service to cover some of the old 84 route at least through Englewood and Tenafly.

I think the Boulevard East buses need to be reconfigured. I don’t live there but those buses get so packed and cruiser buses are not the right choice for that environment.

What if Boulevard East got a dedicated line using transit style buses and all the Bergen County buses got routed via Turnpike. Maybe some people use the buses to get between Hudson and Bergen, but you could put a transfer point at the end of the line near Ridgefield, plus if they ever build the HBLR extension it will become moot.

NJT did this in the 1980s with the 167, which used to run local via Tonnelle Ave non-rush hour.  It made all the 167's turnpike expresses full time (and later added the 177 Armory Express) while making the 127 full time up Tonnelle Ave to Ridgefield.

    TEANECK RD ROUTE RESTRUCTURE PROPOSAL:

Note: This is MY proposal and NOT an official proposal.

167: PABT to Harrington Park making stops in Union City.

167TX: Dumont-Chestnut Bend to PABT - Express Stops - Skips all stops between PABT & Teaneck Armory

167Q: PABT to New Milford via Queen Anne Road. (Operated by Oradell only).

177X: New Bridge Medical Center & New Milford to PABT - Express Stops - Skips all stops between PABT & Teaneck Armory.

187: Dumont-Chestnut Bend to GWB Terminal via Teaneck (Circle Driveway) and Route 4.

753: Cresskill/New Milford to Hackensack Bus Terminal.

772G: Paramus Bergen Town Center to American Dream via Hackensack Bus Terminal.

    Thoughts?

The current routing of the 167Q for New Milford runs doesn't make any sense.  It should not loop back to Teaneck Rd via State St.  It should be re-routed to travel via Windsor Rd, New Bridge Rd and then Prospect Ave to Madison Ave New Milford following the old discontinued R&T/SRT 11C route.  Hundreds of passengers walk or drive to Washington Ave/Teaneck Rd from this corridor to get the 167/177 each day and there is already plenty of 167/177 service on Teaneck Rd and Washington Ave.

  8. I dont think this was ever used as an officlal option either.  Many times Bergen County riders from the Port would go uptown to catch an NJT bus when there were major delays at the Tunnel, but cross honoring in the subway was never an option.  They had to swallow the fare.  This option makes a lot more sense for nearby Bergen/Hudson riders as opposed to Secaucus Junction especially for riders in Fort Lee, Englewood, Teaneck, Hackensack, etc.

  9. I saw a fairly recent post on facebook that njt some time before the coronavirus had programmed route destination signs for route 183 to replace the 11c and route 184 to replace the 84.  I presume this may have been dead in the water even before the coronavirus, but does anyone have any info on whether njt had considered operating the lines?
