  1. My favorite is the "WALK THROUGH TRAIN" one. BTW, you can sign it up as a or ... or any letter or number. Using the "to LAWRENCE ST" "to DEAN ST" or "BROADWAY/NASSAU" ones might confuse a lot of people who have a short memory. I also have to wonder what the " FORT HAMILTON PKY / SHUTTLE" was ever used for (the R160 has an program to Fort Hamilton Parkway too, for some bizarre reason). And yes, there is a program for "to NEPTUNE AV / VAN SICKLEN" as well as a "to BAY PARKWAY / 22 AVENUE" That's silly, they're not going to relocate R46's or R160's just so that the signs can say "to Nassau Ave" when putting posters in the windows will suffice. Besides, there will be platform crews at Nassau to redirect customers who don't pay attention. I remember when there were R32's running on the a couple years back, even though the rollsigns said West End. The customers still figured it out.
  2. Man, you just reminded me why the 142A is my favorite equipment to operate. I'm thinking about submitting a G2 to go back to the A now.... The 142/A is also the only equipment in the active fleet which has a left side cab window. So when you got a TSS or a student riding with you, they don't have to be right on top of you if observing the road. Also the thing I hate the most about the R160s is they have the slowest door motors of the entire fleet. The 142/A/3 doors are excellent.
  3. The entire list is 27 pages long. I carry it in my bag. You never know when you need to sign up your train to say "to BOTANTIC GDN" (0473)
  4. The is always less crowded. Only time it ever really gets crowded is that run between Fordham and 145 when the is bypassing those stations in that direction. Just remember that if the is terminating at 145 and you are going there, ALWAYS transfer at 125 if something comes in on the express track because the is notorious for having to hold at 135 since there's only one terminal track it can use.
  5. Yep, there's a code that has it cycle through every program. Good catch! The R32's also have a setting to cycle through every display on the ends.
  6. Well at least they don't have the B44 announcement at every single stop on the Nostrand Branch..... Trains will only go express-on-the-local if the tower thinks that they can get all the way through the express run without catching up to a train making local stops.
  7. There was a 6 car move from Coney Island Yard to Westchester Yard tonight, via the . I actually made a "connection" with it tonight at Bedford Park!
  8. How about we either have all or no bus announcements? My biggest pet peeve with the tech trains is them adding those SBS announcements all over the place. It ISN'T a real transfer if you can't take one of those buses cross town and then get onto a connecting subway line on one fare! NYCT needs to take a lesson from that Silver Lie scandal in Boston......and at least that has REAL transfers between two subway lines!
  9. If my final destination is any local station between 51-116, I will transfer to the at 42 if it's coming in, just to save myself the extra stairs to exit/transfer.
  10. What I mean is that even though it isn't ILLEGAL to take photos of a tunnel (as long as it's from a public place), this action is still on the "suspicious activities-see something, say something" list and if a TA employee sees you, they are supposed to report you to the control center or the police who will investigate to find out what your intentions are, since what you are photographing is still a restricted area. That cleaner absolutely should NOT have confronted you himself though! Obviously riders who are all squeezed together at the front window on a museum trip are there because they're railfans, and won't raise suspicion. One guy taking photos into a tunnel is another story.
  11. No, taking pictures of the tunnels is NOT permitted. You won't necessarily be ARRESTED for it, but you WILL be reported and questioned. Also, 76 St was never built so there's nothing to discover. I hope you aren't serious about that.
  12. Umm no. That's obviously not what happened. And I bet every single RTO employee who read your post cringed when they read it.
  13. The 2342 out of 207 had a R32 set tonight. That's the train that normally gets cut for the Lefferts shuttle.......
  14. A lot of good information in that post you made, but your extra trip rules isn't quite true. In order to receive the extra trip bonus (a minimum of 4 hours, regardless of the time the trip took) you must a. do all scheduled trips on your job (if you get a drop or get short turned resulting in you not doing every half, then you don't get the extra trip bonus) and b. you return to the terminal at least 1 hour after your scheduled clearing time. i've never heard any rule stating that if you START your extra trip before your clearing time, it doesn't count UNLESS one of your SCHEDULED trips got dropped or shortturned. So if you had a job on the that called for 2 trips out of 179, your first trip goes fine, and then your second trip gets dropped due to extended headways, if the dispatcher asks you to make a trip after sitting for 2 hours, you will NOT get paid the extra trip bonus. However, you will still get paid the appropriate late clear down to the minute that you arrive back at 179. Since the is a long line, you would most likely be getting at least 4 hours of OT as it is. Another example would be on the - lets say you have an 8 hour job that does 3 trips, and then has 2 hours of WAA at the end - if you do your 3 trips as scheduled, and the T/D asks you to do a 4th trip, whether or not you get the 4 hour bonus would depend on if that 4th trip got back to Main St more or less than 1 hour after your clearing time. If you cleared at 2000 and your trip got you back at 2050, you would only be entitled to 50+25 minutes, but if you got in at 2101, then you'd get 1:01 for the overtime, and then 2:59 for the bonus, to make it an even 4 hours. Tip - the and are the best lines to do extra trips on, because those lines are short enough that you should get back to the terminal more than 1 hour after your clearing time, but way less than 4 hours. I once did an extra trip on the where I cleared an hour and a half late, but got the whole 4 hours.
  15. Dude, you have the airtrain as your AVATAR! If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, then you're probably talking about the foamer criminal trespasser (and yeah, I know you're on this forum and we all know who you are!) who recently caused a train to BIE in the Cranberry Tube when he was "playing around" with the circuit breakers in an empty cab. Well guess what, now your career as an actual motorman has come to a screeching halt.
  16. Some people just have the "the express is faster, no matter what" mentality stuck in their heads so deep that they can not think reasonably when commuting. The absolute dumbest are the riders on the S/B who will run onto the at Kings Highway....or even worse, Sheepshead Bay, a corridor where the is GUARANTEED to beat the to Brighton Beach, and will trail the by such little time that it isn't worth the effort to even change trains if going to Sheepshead. I remember a couple years ago when I was working the on a Saturday and a GO had us turning at 42 St, and a train came in across the platform and these 3 women ran off and asked me if 59 St was next and I said "yes but we aren't leaving yet so get back on the " and they didn't. Instead they sat in my train for 4 minutes until we got starting lights, and sure enough, got off at 59 St. Not only was that long gone, but now they have two extra levels to exit.
  17. Yes, they are that stupid, and it's covering a corridor with some of the worst customers in the entire city. And that usually runs up the express track in Brooklyn, so it wouldn't just be a " via the " it would be a " making only a couple of the stops and then we're gonna be a regular once we get to W4" and now half of those customers who were already on board want 14 or 23 St. Not worth the headache especially when the is still running regular headways and doesn't need an extra train in service.
  18. Remember when posting that you MUST put in a late clear if you want to get paid more than 8 hours that day, even if you get assigned to a poster who has a job that is longer than 8. Just filling out the payroll manual isn't enough, because you're still being paid out of schoolcar's bank, who will only give you 8 hours. Anything beyond that must come out of RTO's account with a late clear form.
  19. Yes it is. Over night, the only service going to Flatbush is the and the only service going to New Lots is the . If you have a customer on the east side who wants President St, or a customer coming from the west side going to Pennsylvania Ave, they could both get on their proper train at Nevins St. For all stations from Atlantic to Franklin, customers who need the proper branch can wait for the or the right behind it. You COULD do the same thing with the and , by having the cross from 4 to 2 north of 59 St, but CPW gets VERY little ridership overnight, meanwhile the Concourse branch is always busy, so it benefits more people to just leave the on 4 up to 145 and avoid a delay with the being right behind the all the way up. Remember, even during the day on weekends, CPW only have one service running every 10 minutes, and the handles it just fine. Even judging by how empty those S/B PM 's are in the Bronx (almost all riders will pass up a to wait for the next behind it), there seems to be very little travel between Concourse and CPW stations. BTW - those ' s will almost ALWAYS beat the following to 6th Ave, so even god forbid they make local stops, it is not faster to wait for the . Oh and if that connection gets missed resulting in a 19 minute wait for the next , 59 St tower will usually have that make local stops anyway.
  20. And I can guarantee that if any foamers caught the Howard Beach train, they would go through and start changing the signs to the Airtrain. And then think it was the most clever thing ever.
  21. If you want to ride R46's on the so badly, just ride the after 11pm.......
  22. Safety regulations prohibit a crew member from observing more than 300 ft when closing the doors. If the ran with 8 cars, that would be 480 ft.
  23. For a similar reason - 9PM is when the work trains coming out of 38 St Yard first get staged - first they come down the ramps into 9th Ave (both levels) and then wait for a slot to change directions. Having an in service come through the middle of this would get in the way, so there's one train which gets sent via the Culver line, and goes in service at BL (since that is the first station where the train won't get delayed by all of the customers asking "are you an ? Well do you go to this station? etc" questions. It means there's a 20 minute gap in service in Brooklyn, but maintains the 10 minute level of service in Manhattan & Bronx.
  24. Just a couple of PRACTICAL observations which I need to point out: There's a good reason why the is express and the is local on CPW at night. It is because there are SCHEDULED connections at 59 St on the 20 minute headways so that riders can make two-way transfers between the two branches. In reality, overnight flagging delays mean that not every single transfer can be made, but when it does, it saves riders from having to wait 10+ minutes to change between the two lines. Also the reason why the is the express is because the also needs to run local from 59-Canal, meaning it HAS to be on the local track at 59 St. So if the were also local, that across the platform transfer wouldn't be possible. The and do something similar at Nevins St on the late nights. Also, the reason the runs local between 36-Dekalb starting at 10pm is because 38 St Yard is where most of the work trains come in and out of, and the express tracks need to stay cleared for them, as they often have to wait for their slot to go over the appropriate side of the bridge. Also note that the first local in both directions follows the last of the night, so that there is a seamless transition of 6th Ave service stopping at Dekalb. Because of this, the one proposal I WOULD like to make is that the should run local Dekalb-36 all day on weekends ONCE the returns to the tube. Also, in most cases there is NO reason to run express service all night long. This is why they're going to start running the local in Manhattan this December, as that's the only express run left that wasn't express for practicality purposes. The and need to remain local in order to provide 10 minute service on their Manhattan trunks. And in the case of the 8th Ave corridor, IF the were to run express all night, how would a rider get from 50th St to 181st St?
