Disconnected? Wrong direction? Not quite. Last I looked, the Port Washington (PW) Branch went all the way into New York City with a stop at Woodside.  Although I don't agree with Cuomo on many things, I actually like the plan. The LGA AirTrain would provide for an easier trip to/from LGA for anyone along or near the PW Branch.

(full disclosure - I like the plan as I live near the PW Branch)

The connection to the 7 train and the PW at CitiField would provide a way to ease the volume of passengers on the E/F trains at Jackson Heights. The LGA AirTrain shouldn't be seen as a perfect replacement for the Q70, or any other means of travel to/from LGA. Rather, it would complement all existing services.

In my post above, I stated that the plan isn't perfect by any means, but it is the best that we can do circa 2020, not 1940.

As for the cost, we need to separate Gov. Cuomo's preference for the LGA AirTrain (whatever it may be in Cuomo's mind) from the benefit that could arise from having a rail-only connection from LGA into Manhattan. Sure it will cost money - everything does. I don't like SBS / artics, but I accept that some people are ok with them for one reason or another. As the number of visitors to NYC and the number of residents keeps growing, any plan to ease travel to/from LGA is welcome.

Another benefit regarding cost are the number of well paying jobs which will arise out of such a project. While I understand there will be concerns about cost overruns, we should not forgo trying to build within a system that warrants major improvements in infrastructure from time to time.

To be honest, if you're taking the (7) or the LIRR to get to LGA from Manhattan, chances are you're not gonna want to ride to pretty much the end of the line to get the Airtrain when you can just take the Q70, which can take you to the airport in 10- 15 minutes. I feel like people would only take the Airtrain if they're coming from from like Bayside or Whitestone.

  2. Something funny happened to me on the (C) this morning. My train pulled into Jay Street (it was a R179) and we're sitting there for about 5 minutes. The C/R kept trying to close the doors and they kept reopening. Eventually, the train is OOS. Right when I was about to get on the (R) to Manhattan, they say the train is back in service. I just found it lowkey funny.

I once found out that Williamsburg Bridge Plaza still has some capacity for more buses. Would it be ideal for another route to serve the terminal? If so, where would it go and what streets would it serve?

I would send the B67 there during the day, if there was capacity for it.

That’s nice. However they should hurry up and retire that bus (along with the other O7 CNGs) because 2019 is happening tomorrow. Last thing we need is a bunch of buses that will become useless with no replacements.

7685 probably came in last after the rest of the order did, so it's probably gonna last until the Spring (that's when all the remaining Orion VIIs are supposed to be retired by)

I know that clearance testing was long time done. What I meant by the train could pass testing on any line was burn-in testing. The sets have done burn-in on the (A) and the (J), and recently on the (C). There is nothing to prevent them from doing burn-in on other lines to make where ever the cars are sent, they will be able to run in revenue service. But like Lance said, it was most likely announcement testing MTA was doing.

A 8 car set did burn in testing on the (F) a couple of weeks ago.

Construction on the B46 sbs stops on avenue n and flatlands and avenue k are finished but buses still stop at the temp bus stops. Why won’t the mta fix this? It’s been finished for a few months now. Also the Canarsie construction has been finished so buses could go their original path again. Why are buses still turning down rockaway parkway to flatlands avenue?

They haven't put the bus stops back yet.

Bringing this over from the R179 Discussion thread...

...I’m thinking they should just suspend the (Z) for the duration of the shutdown. Who’s going to want to wait 12 minutes during rush hour if they just miss a train at the “skip” stations? Just give every station on the (J) line the full 10 tph.

As for the (M) and (R), it seems that 96th and 2nd is on its way to becoming the B-Division version of New Lots Avenue during rush hours, with the rerouting of two of the five extra (M) trains and two of the existing (R) trains per hour being sent there. It’ll be giving “Zoo Lots” a run for its money.

If I'm correct, the (Z) will be local between Broadway Junction and Marcy Avenue, like how it was with the M shutdown.

So I picked the :bus_bullet_b82: for the month of September and I am confused on how the SBS will work. That loop around the Rockaway Parkway (L) station kills about 15-20 minutes with all  the traffic. They should keep the :bus_bullet_b6: and :bus_bullet_b82: on Flatlands ave. There are other bus lines that stop about 2 blocks from a subway station and the people walk to and from them. I did see the pdf file on it and it is insane that there won't be a bus lane on kings highway between the kings highway :N: station and Ocean ave.

Correct me if I am wrong anywhere about this.

They're converting Glenwood Road into a two way street between E 103 and Rockaway Parkway. The westbound lane will be for buses only, so the B6 and B82 will be using that instead of Flatlands.

Wassup y'all.. On My brake today, i went to hang out with my B/O friend at West Farms and i've heard some interesting things thats about to happen and somethings that are being talked about.

    - starting on Sept 2 (the New Pick) The Bx36 will be all Artics

    - The next line to go SBS might Be the Bx19

    - Might Be sending The Bx15 and Bx17 to KB, and The Bx39 to West Farms. (Another Friend the drives out of GH said It was talks about the Bx15 going to GH)

    - The Bx35 MIGHT have Artics on some rush hour runs.

Now before anybody try to attack my post, AS I SAID THIS WAS THE CONVO THE DRIVERS AT THE DEPOT WAS HAVING... The only thing that seems like its happening is the Bx36 all Artics.

Even with the new XN60s coming in, there isn't enough artics to make the Bx36 an articulated line, especially since the Bx6 local is supposed to become fully artic as well. After the B82 goes SBS, they're putting a hold on the SBS program until after the bus redesign

The r62s have always had the worst AC in my experience. The only hot cars I've run into this summer were r62s on the (1) and (6)

Those were probably the 62As. They only have one compressor for the HVAC compared to the two on the R62s.

This was mentioned on the R179 thread but why is the s/b IND Culver express track almost entirely 2shot timers between 7 ave and Church Ave?

The signals appear to be of the newer type (like those at the 34th St/6 Ave, Roosevelt Ave, South Ferry, 2nd ave, and Hudson Yards areas)

It might be because they use that track to test CBTC equipment.
