only question is did i waste my time again ?

i did my drug test in January  thought id be getting called for medical and to be hired. Its just another steP Added

It just means they don't have a class to put you in yet.

Does anyone know when’s the next class?
I was called back for a 2nd lab and medical. However, not the finishing process. This is really ridiculous how they run us. I really can’t plan any vacation or nothing!

You should probably throw any plans for a vacation out the window unless you do it now. When you get hired, you will get one vacation day per month that are to be used for next year. Maybe they will grant you an unpaid leave of absence, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it.

Tonight saw 9943-38 coupled to another 5 car unit (didn't catch the last five numbers) in service on the (F) its been a long while..

Those 5 cars been on the (G) for quite some time..

I believe its a different Operating system as well.

All Thales units are compatible with Alstom units.

Was ATO turned back on along QBL? Brooklyn bound (R) train I took tonight had noticeably quicker acceleration and higher braking rate, along with no rolling brake test leaving Forest Hills

Train Operators are required to perform brake tests whether or not ATO is enabled.

I see. Part of me assumed that ATO was in full swing for much longer since every time we have to call on flagging, RCC has to inhibit ATO before we can even step foot onto the right of way to set up lights, work (if its Point to Point), etc..

It's because even with ATO inhibited, trains are allowed to travel faster under ATPM. For instance, the QBL express tracks used to be governed by 30 MPH grade time signals, but trains can go higher than that now.

My guy you need to stop unless you work in HR for the MTA. You need to stop telling us these false statements.  If you look at past comment on this forum there has been people on here acting like they work for HR saying the same exact nonsense that you are saying end ended up look silly and also had some people not take the OPA making them losing out on a big opportunity. As far as I know and it says in bold letters in the letter that was mailed. If you got a letter from the MTA to take the OPA exam and you pass it, you will go through the process of drug screening and medical to be hired for the conductor position.

They can still reinstate themselves on DCAS and go from there. Wouldn't be the first time someone missed getting an email/letter/call. That said, people had been hired on the previous list that lasted for eight years so yea who knows.

On the other hand, we already have two promotional conductor exams and those people deserve to move up from their title as well.

That list hasn't been established yet. So I doubt theyll close out before they even established a list for promotional. In October I was informed by the exam unit that the letters with list numbers for C/R promotional will be sent out in 6 to 8 months. So 6 to 8 months from October would likely be April - June. Unless they sped up the process after October, I doubt any promotionals will be called b4 the spring.

People can and have been called in provisionally and since they are promotional they don't really have anything to lose aside from seniority in their old title.

Anyway, from what I have heard, they look to continue hiring train operators and conductors throughout the first half of the year especially with the likelihood of having a ton of conductors trying to get promoted to train operators in the near future. So who knows what they'll do to keep those classes full.

Anybody have a number to call at 180 Livingston ? The one I have goes to answering machine leave a message , never get a call back.

Yea, this is why we tell people to go to 180 in person to find out what's going on.

I have a friend of mine who has been a conductor for about two years or so now and he was telling me that after 5 years they make you do another medical and a lot of ppl let them selves go “as in gain a lot of weight” than get out on medical hold for sleep apnea. I guess once getting into this gig it’s a must to maintain proper weight and stay active. It’s an easy joB he told me. Hope for the best everyone.  It’s been a journey especially for the ones who just got called recently.

You do a medical every year. They test your hearing the following year you're hired and then another full run of tests the year after.

I scored an 8 on my sleep apnea test. Will I be taken off of medical hold?

Yes, you'll be fine. I'd head back to 180 asap before someone else fills the class.

Dee. Respectfully. This job is not as simple as you’re imagining. In school car today we learned that we won’t be doing AM’s. Now our classes will be PM’s. So one has to study. Balance time with family. Worry about mastering a new skill and commute for an extra half hour each way because trains don’t run regularly at night. If the job was as easy as you imagine they wouldn’t be hiring so many people. Respectfully.

Unfortunately, I don't think you'll get much sympathy from those of us who's been there especially when conductor classes are generally held on the PM to begin with. Sorry your class got stuck with the short straw. There will also come to a point where you will be working all three tours during your training if they haven't told you already.

Hi all, I will be on the next upcoming class and I am coming from a office job regular 9-5 for the last 10+ years. This will be something completely different from what I do, definitely a little nervous about the change. Any advise what I should expect or guidance into this transition would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Probably something to ask before accepting the job tbh.

Do not have high expectations that you will be given the tour, days off, and close reporting locations you want while you are XX. You want the AM tour? So do your classmates and the people with higher seniority than you. Being able to pick a job with weekends off will be possible only after many years of gaining seniority unless you win a job off the vacancy bid with it. Your tour and RDO can change from week to week. You may work the PM tour for a few weeks with Mon./Tues. off and then the next two weeks, you're on the midnight with Thurs/Friday off because they need you to work Christmas/New Year's.

Requesting days off is not going to be as easy as emailing your boss. There's a really small cap on how many people can get the day off everyday and It's on a first come, first serve basis. You have to request the day off 20 days in advanced to automatically get the day approved if you manage to snag a slot. Request 3-19 days in advanced and you have to wait to see if the crew office approve it or not. Weekends are highly sought after so that means there's always a ton of people that are fighting each other to put their request in the automated phone system first. Though when people don't get the day off they want, they tend to get sick for some reason.

Do not be late. Leave home "early" if you have to. Trains run on a schedule and it relies on you being on time to be on them.

There's more others can chime in, but that's the basic HR gist. The upsides are that you do get a pension and the best health insurance ( though worst dental insurance) that you can get anywhere.

    My list number is 62xx

No I went for pre employment in June but when I got there I realized my ssn card was lost. So they told me to order and new one email transit to reschedule pre employment. I reached out to them and got the confirmation email in October that my name has been re added to the list. So I would have figured by now I would’ve got re called for pre employment again but nothing yet and it’s almost January.

Yea, no, you were suppose to go back ASAP. Forget waiting for an email from them. JUST GO

Question about the medical hold. Is there any number that I can call in regards to setting up an appointment or is it better to just go down to 180? I was given an email and a number to call. I emailed but haven't gotten a response yet, and I called, but the number was apparently just for general inquiries and I was told to use the email that I got from the paper that was given to me to schedule an appointment.

    JUST GO

  13. Everything that deals with CBTC are still in their testing and revise phase. Simply put, ATS-B was programmed by people who never had to dispatch trains. It really does not help that it is not made by the same company that created I-Trac. It's very cumbersome to use which makes it hard to make changes on the fly. Schoolcar knows how bad it is and are trying to get the vendor to respond and make changes, but that takes time. Trains can get tagged wrong and then the ID can't be swapped or removed because of bugs they gotta work out. So train operators like RTOMan may have noticed that their train is tagged as an Extra.  ID's can be lost on the way to CBTC territory because of track circuit failures perceived in ATS-B and the dispatcher responsible for IDing trains likely have not noticed cause there's a bajillion things to keep track of. Automated IDs is still going to be a long way out because the road is not perfect and there are put-in's and layups to be made that can mess with the IDs if they don't catch it in time and make changes on ATS-B.

It's hard to flex intervals on ATS-B. It's hard to make changes to what crew is on the train. ETC, ETC, ETC It's very counterintuitive compared to I-Trac.

Hey, I was called and texted on Friday  about coming in next week for Pre Employment  . I was told to check my email and follow the instructions in the email , I have yet to receive a email & it’s Sunday . I want to make sure I have all the documentations and everything they asked for before having to go in . I see that on this forum it shows a link to “ employee operations canvass instructions “ is that what was sent out in the email . Can someone help me out .

Yes, fill out and print the Pre-employment Packet. Any other forms you might be missing and the people at 180 Livingston will make sure to correct that.

I think there should be a February class if the list expires in the middle of February. Also just my opinion I wouldn't think MTA HR would told people to take the OPA exam if there wasn't a chance to be called. When I read the letter they sent me when they told me I had to take the OPA exam they said in bold letter " If you pass the OPA you will immediately be processed for consideration for employment which includes a drug screening and medical exam" MTA HR is huge and I would think they wouldn't send a letter saying all that in bold letters if they knew you didn't bhave a chance.  Remember there are a lot of veterans retiring and other being promoted, so the MTA have to fill those conductor spots. Wish you the best

Keep in mind, there are and have been people who were turned down by the 1 in 3 rule as well as others being offered a cleaner position instead. This is Transit we're talking about here and sooner or later, they're going to fill that last class and people will be left in the dust if they don't pass that medical before someone else does.

    Do anyone have the email?

    LMACustomerService@dcas.nyc.gov

    Name

Last four digits of social security

    List number

    Title/Exam #

If I were you, I would apply again for the conductor exam. Also on December 1st, the application period opens for Train Operator which pays more. So either you can get in as a conductor first and then get promoted to T/O or just have a straight shot into it.

Here's a question for u!   What does Flex mean in terms of dispatching?  (i.e.:  you're interval is now the 14:40 Flex).

It simply means your scheduled interval has been adjusted due to service disruptions, crew shortages, etc.

What number should I look out for? What email? That’s what I was asking for. Last time they sent me a letter for my OPA. I just don’t want to miss a call. Thank you

The phone call and email is going to say it's from Costco.

I mean, what else do you think it'll show up as? It's going to run along the lines of New York City Transit Conductor.

Hello everyone I believe they passed my list no. 79xx is there anyone I can call so that they can select me? Not sure how it works but I see people in the 11000s saying they have been called off the list. Any help would be appreciated

Looking back someone a couple weeks ago stated they were 73XX and decided not to take the drug test. This is the TO thread by the way.

Either way, conductors in the 11k range are likely still waiting to do another drug test.

Does anyone have the dates for the October class and the November classes? Appreciate the info.

    Hiring/promotional forecast

    T/O

    10/29 - 100

    11/19 - 100

    12/24 - 100

    1/28 - 100

Keep in mind the chances of reporting to training on Thanksgiving and Christmas, New Years, etc is highly possible.

My drug test expired on 9/27,  the 3 month threshold, I’m mid 8000’s, will they call me back to take it again?

    Yes.
    ______
The application period to apply for the next open competitive conductor exam is open. The train operator exam application period is also coming in 12/1 which I highly recommend applying for as it's a much higher wage job than conductor.
