  1. Sometimes what matters is to make the time and show up. How will we keep up the fight against union busting when most of the membership don't get involved? At the very least it would be fantastic with thousands of train operators to actually have quorum at the meetings every month which requires just ten people. If that number can be met, motions can be passed that will be addressed by the union's executive board. It's a reason the union itself don't take Service Delivery seriously. You best believe the union sees the attendance and just throws the department to the side. And more of the membership need to vote and that includes calling the hotline if you don't receive the ballot and badger them until it actually comes in the mail. I'm not going to say things will change overnight, but you can't expect change if you don't make an effort either.
  2. At this point, it's more of a matter of how many left they need to hire and whether some of the people here will actually be reached or not. As Jack mentioned, there are several train operators with ad hoc board jobs right now. This is not including at the very least the people who were hired back on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and just this past Monday that will make it worse when they graduate. I have never seen a board job start at 9PM before and it was bad enough when they had board jobs that started at 8PM! Any more train operators that they'll hire in the next certification will likely just be enough to cover those who will be promoting to dispatcher and TSS. Sooner or later, the spout is going to drip to a stop. Also keep in mind, there's always someone willing to do some overtime and they're all crying right now that they're being told that nothing's available.
  3. Ok, so you should get a letter of admission in the mail ten days before the exam date. I'm assuming you applied to the 3607 exam. Just to make sure, hopefully you submitted that education and experience form by the 12/15/22 deadline as per the exam notice.
  4. Not really sure what you're situation is, but they call/email you.
  5. I would look back a few pages in this thread and compare your list number to the ones that passed medical to have an idea of how close your are.
  6. Transit will definitely throw you around. To be frank, unless you're coming from a job that doesn't pay well and requires too much labor like retail or fast food. I would stick with what you have now.
  7. Minimum of two years to get in yes. In the end, all you need to know is, if you think you have it bad now, you definitely will not like work trains XL/XX. It's XX on meth.
  8. From what I gathered. It's actually the other way around. SSSA follows what TWU gets. But in the end, as supervision, they should be making more than hourlies.
  9. Haha ok wrong word. Let me pull up a thesaurus. Objection I suppose is a better term to use.
  10. No, I got your point just fine. I said it wasn't entirely true and I explained why sometimes there is a grievance about it. Like I said, I don't mind reporting far. It just has to make sense and they are freshly minted train crews who still has to learn the job in more ways than one.
  11. This is not entirely true. If I'm seeing the same posts as you are, part of the problem is the fact that people are sent all over the place when they don't have to. Why should I go to Brooklyn when I'm in Queens and why should my classmate from Staten Island go to Queens? I won't mind being sent to wherever they have us report, but it has to make sense. And if it was about learning about different jobs on the line, then don't send me to 95 to do two trips on the Romeo when I can do exactly that on the Continental end. We're in a union. I would hope at least we would all come together to fight for better working conditions and my hat's off to the new guys who don't want to be pushed around.
  12. There's also one in Brooklyn that is open from 8AM-3PM today. Good luck. BLYTHEBOURNE — Post Office™ 1200 51ST ST BROOKLYN, NY 11219-9997
  13. Again, Transit is under no obligation to hire you. The hard reality is there is simply no incentive for them to make things easier for you when there's always another person behind you who can go through the process, pass the medical, and fill up the class. I don't know what else to tell you. You can hope they improve things, but this is Transit we're talking about here. lol The position of conductor is a safety sensitive title. They are not going to allow you anywhere near a train until they can verify you are medically fit to work. Edit: As someone earlier mentioned. If you're tight about this process now, just wait until you actually work the job.
  14. And once again, you're literally just a number at the end of the day. Just to make things clear. My list # for this exam is in the 10XXX range. If I ever expected to be called in and get hired for this job, I would be delusional.
  15. On the flip side, if you scored pretty far from #1, you shouldn't expect to be called in either. The exam notice does state you will be subjected to a medical exam. Transit has no incentive to make things easier for you when there's another person in line behind you willing to go through the process and who can pass the medical and save them on medical insurance premiums. Er, there's usually an exam every four years or so. Otherwise they could very well continue to hire from the previous conductor list (which was already extended by EIGHT years by the way) and leave people who took this exam hanging. So be careful what you wish for. As to what you've previously wrote. Before the pandemic hit, Transit already instituted a hiring freeze. They don't have to hire anyone if they don't want to.
  16. Every once in a while, Transit has a number of vacancies to fill as per the budget they are approved to hire. DCAS provides a certified list of people to pull candidates from. The current certified list is dated 7/8/22 for 200 vacancies. Once this is exhausted and if Transit heads approve another budget to hire more people, they'll contact DCAS for an updated certified list that can include people who asked to be restored.
  17. Should be an annual raise. When out of contract, you remain at the same pay until a new contract is ratified and then back pay will be sent for the raise you should've received in the interim.
  18. What Transit wants to do is anyone's guess. What we do know is there is a promotional exam set to take place at the end of the month, another application for promotion to conductor in May, and an open competitive application in June. So they may just decide to let this exam expire on February 14, 2023 as stated on DCAS and wait for the certified list to be released for the upcoming exams.
  19. Yea, Milano said as much. His lower digit list number will still afford him to be at the top of the class he ends up in.
  20. If you read the previous page, someone mentioned they were called for medical for the 1/9 class with a list #700X range. So if you're anywhere near that, I would buy your plane tickets now if you haven't already, because that would be the only way they would excuse you during your time in schoolcar. Mind you, if it's more than a week, they may not accept that and you'll have to resign and wait for the next class if there is one.
  21. Ok, so yea you're going to have to wait for another class to be sworn in. The one that started yesterday must've filled up already.
  22. Just to clarify, when you mean "just got cleared", you mean yesterday (though I assume not as it should be a Transit holiday)? And they had you do the hearing, weight, vision, EKG, blood pressure, drug test, etc until 8PM????
  23. Yes, your induction is actually the Sunday, but in the end they don't care if you put the date for Sunday or Monday on future paperwork.
