  1. I got my R42 line sign working! It lights up and scrolls through, the original lamps even still work! Thought you guys might want to see I haven't wired up the proper plug yet, but I was able to find and order one so I'll do that next. Then, my plan is to make a nice display frame that the sign can sit in, as well as hold the power supply. I wanted to ensure I'm not modifying anything about the sign so it retains it's collector value. For anyone interested, the power supply is here and the plug is here. I had to slightly increase the voltage of the power supply from 36V to 37.5V.
  2. Has anyone successfully wired a line sign for 110v home power and/or have suggestions on how to do it? I have a line sign from an r42 and I've been dying to power it up. From the sticker on the inside, it looks like it takes 37volts, which is an unusual voltage so finding a power supply that matches is tough. I want to try to match the original input as best I can to restore full functionality (scroll + lights). My plan is to first get the electrics working again, then I want to build a small enclosure to hold the whole thing (so that I can pretty up the front without actually modifying the original case).
  3. An express will cruise pretty much the whole way from Hollis to Hicksville doing 80mph.
  4. Anyone else find the LIRR's current color scheme ugly and boring? Black front with a yellow stripe. How creative... Makes me envious of the MNRR's blue with white stripes and especially the Red / Black. I know it would never happen, but imagine if they used an anodized grey body (think like a dark chrome, but brushed stainless steel) with orange accents around the cab.
