  1. You're all forgetting the #1 reason why the (M) won't run R32 or 42's. That is an OPTO line part time (even when it gets extended to Essex in June, it will still be 4 car OPTO). The 32's and 42's can not run in OPTO mode (how is the T/O gonna open up on the left side?). So it's 143 or 160's only. Sorry.

This may be a dumb question, but how does the conductor open up the left side on the R32s?

  2. This will probably be shot down quickly but what about sending some R32s to CI for the (N) and (Q) trains? They both have significant outside-running, including at both ends (except for (Q) on weekends). This could be possible since Bway is not exactly a busy corridor. The only problem I can think of is the changing of rollsigns at the terminus stations.

  3. I also heard foamers changing rollsigns on the R32 R.

They managed to get their hands on an MTA key? I find that very disrespectful to do, as it is very misleading to passengers. The only time that I have ever used the destination sign of a transit vehicle was when there was an open house, and I received permission from the operator responsible for the vehicle.

  4. I heard...

    -Foamer surfing on the back

-Foamers fighting for the RFW (as usual)

-Foamers that smell like sh*t (also as usual)

-Foamers kicking regular passengers off the train

and probably more that I didn't hear about.

Sound like they were all ready for war! Either way, this is very immature, and they show a complete lack of respect for the subway in general. I could never do any of that because I personally have too much to lose.

  5. On the other hand, Spring Creek, LaGuardia, JFK, CP, FR, and BP were doing the LIRR Bustition. Wasn't as diverse as last time, especially since CP didn't send out any 102's and SC didn't send any of it's CT's out to the shuttle (which might explains all BM1-5 buses being mostly CT's today instead of the half and half arrangement). MTA Bus did the expresses, while Acme School Bus did the local bus (I was dying seeing the people's facing upon seeing that, lol).

What is the 'Acme school bus"? I have never heard of it before.

  6. After seeing how close Queensboro Plaza and Queens Plaza are to each other, I can understand why some have called for a free transfer.

I don't see a reason to do so, just change trains at one of the other stops instead. It seems like it would cost a lot to build, and there are many other transfer stations in the vicinity.

  7. Training buses are not selected at random. The buses used for training are specifically set up with a trolley brake connection in the front. This is so the instructor can stop the bus when he/she needs to.

Where would the instructor brake be located?

  8. I know that this might sound extremely speculative, but is the TA planning to run the TOMC on the (7) anytime in April to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the '64 World's Fair?

    Thanks in advance!

I am pretty sure that the Answer is yes. The proof is a few pages back.

  9. I can't wait for the SBS on it.

Meanwhile, I can officially say that the B38 needs some artics BAD! 3 over-crowded buses past my stop earlier today. Literally. It reminded me why it has limited service. I know this will never happen though. Besides the only depot that the 38 uses & can cover artic runs is Grand Ave Depot. So that means no artics for the Limited. Unless the B38 becomes 100% Grand Ave Depot route. Which I think should happen because Grand Ave treats the route WAY better. But that's just my two cents.

In the mean-time the best solution with what the MTA currently has would be to restrict the route to High Floors Only (i find that high floors have a high capacity than low floors.) just my opinion.

  10. Next:

The President decides to come into town and do a round-trip ceremonial subway ride between 207th Street (A) station in Manhattan and the Coney Island (D) platform, making stops to campaign for elected officials along the way, all in the middle of PM rush hour because it's the only time he could do it.  Re-route as needed.

I see that Obama is going the way of Chris Christie. In this case, obama's train will operate local in between the (C) trains on the CPW local, and will change over to the 6th avenue line, running the route of the (D), and using the middle express track on the West End line to Coney Island. Though personally, I would like him to take the (F) train there instead with other passengers. Also, I would bill him for all extra costs incurred by his "joyride", since I don't think public money should be used in campaigns.

  11. I have a scenario

A magnitude 9 earthquake has struck the city (rest of situation snipped)

    (1) : Service split into two sections: one from South Ferry to 148th Street, and from Dyckman Street to 242nd Street.

    (2) : Service split into two sections: one from Flatbush Avenue to Freeman Street, and from East 180th Street to Wakefield-241st Street.

    (3) : Service Suspended to free up space at 148th Street for the  (1) train.

    (4) : Service operates local east of Franklin Avenue to New Lots Avenue.

    (5) Service operates as a shuttle from East 180 Street to Dyre Avenue.

    (7) : Service Split into two sections: one from Times Square to Court Square and from Woodside-61st Street to Flushing-Main Street.

    (A) : Rockaway-bound trains terminate at Howard Beach-JFK Airport. Service runs local north of 145th Street.  (H) shuttle trains run across Far Rockaway using Hammel's Wye.

    (B) : Suspended.

    (C) : Suspended.

(D), (F) : Combined service operates between Norwood-205 Street and Avenue X (terminating on the pocket track). Service will run local along 8th Avenue to West 4th Street, and then operating on the IND Culver line to Avenue X.

    (E) : In order to provide extra capacity to Brooklyn, trains are extended through the Cranberry Street Tunnel, operating local to Euclid Avenue.

    (J) : Service operates only between Jamaica Center and Alabama Street, terminating in the ENY yard. Shuttle Buses operate between Myrtle Avenue and Alabama Avenue.

    (L) : Service split into two sections: one from 8th Avenue to Myrtle Avenue, and from Atlantic Avenue to Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway.

    (Z) : Suspended.

We'll keep Montague open, sorry I didn't mention it.

    (M) : Service operates between Metropolitan Avenue and Bay Parkway (need a brown "M" for this).

    (N) : Service operates from 71st Street-Forest Hills, along Montague Street tunnel and runs local along 4th Avenue, terminating at 86th Street.

    (Q) : Service is extended along the 63rd Street Connection, and terminates at 179th Street, operating the service pattern of the (F) train. Trains also terminate at Ocean Parkway.

    (R) : No service north of 36th Street.

    Shuttle buses will be operating:

    • Along 6th Avenue from West 4th Street to Central Park, Terminating at 5th Avenue-59th Street.
    • Along the Brooklyn Bridge from Canal Street (BMT Broadway Line) to Dekalb Avenue.
    • Between Freeman Street and East 180th Street.
    • Between Marcy Avenue, Atlantic Avenue and Alabama Avenue.
    • Along 31st Street between Ditmars blvd, Queens Plaza and Court Square.
    • Between Woodside-61st Street, Queens Plaza and Court Square.
    • Between 96th Street and Dyckman Street.
    • Between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Beach-90th Street.

After the earthquake is over, there is a high risk that there may be fires in the system. Many of the routes, which are combinations of multiple routes, will have to be operated with whatever is available, meaning that there will be instances where some train models will operate to location where they are rarely seen. This will have the added benefit of providing a fire-suppression system in the parts of the system that are still running, as foamers flock to the subway entrances, putting out any fire before they can spread.

  12. A Godzilla attack has...just kidding.

A water main break at Bowery (J)(Z) is preventing access to all tracks. Additionally there is a switch failure at Hammel's Wye and the switch from F4A to F6 is stuck in the reverse position (meaning trains from Far Rock cannot make the right to join the line at Jamaica Bay). The time is 3pm, the switch will be fixed in a few hours, the water main issue will continue indefinitely.

    First Incident:

    (J) : Service terminates at westbound Essex Street, and operates local, stopping at all stops. As it is rush hour, there is no point in operating shuttle buses as it will only make congestion above worse

    (Z) : Service suspended.

    Second Incident:

    (A) : All Rockaway-bound trains operate to Rockaway Parkway Station.

A shuttle service to Mott Avenue will operate using the same routing as the  (H)  train after Hurricane Sandy.

Additionally, extra service will be provided on bus route Q22.
