  1. Here you go: https://www.ltgglobal.com/mass-transit/bus/north-america-bus-solutions/infotainment-systems/infotainment-displays/
  2. As reputable as Clever Devices is, it feels as if the problems regarding their screens (on our buses at least) are more of a result of how they're installed compared to that of other transit agencies. Often times it's the video input of the CD screens on the Xcelsiors that tend to go out despite the audio still playing perfectly fine. Personally havent encountered problems on the NG screens but i wouldn't be surprised about those having their own share of bugs. Honestly, we should've gone with simpler LED boards like those seen on the 38xx NGs for the M34 SBS during their first few years in service as well as those installed over on the ex-LIB/NICE bus fleet but a pipe dream can only go so far... My only gripe with the Luminators is that if they reach a stop that is located far enough from the actual intersection it's posted for (or wherever it's pinned to on BusTime), they tend to announce the next stop prematurely while the Vianova or Clever Devices setups typically never have those problems. In a perfect world, whoever programmed the Vianova TTS should've done away with the "Next Stop" and "This Stop is..." portion of the announcements and just deliver the stop names+transfers instead just to cut down on time (especially when running on local routes with stops being spaced so near to each other).
  3. Presentation is often a sixth sense that I would personally go by to determine whether or not someone is regurgitating crap that hasn't gone through secondary research or if they're actually being informative and as someone who still watches his videos ironically used to comb through his transit-oriented videos, one didn't even have to doubt that with every ounce of truth he would throw out, he would pile a pound of his own bullshit bias on top of it. Piss-poor made thumbnails and poor font choices aside, he obviously doesn't look nor sound to be in the proper stance to have an actual sit down and properly critique mass transit through a neutral position. One example i can think of at the top of my head would be a video of one of the LIB/NICE Orion Vs going through a rough high idle cycle. Does it sound odd to the average PineyWhiney Joe? Maybe. Does it reflect the broader spectrum of NICE's budgetary short comings then? TF NO. There's more layers to the problems faced by Nassau's bus system than an otherwise healthy engine idling through different RPMs and while the system is not perfect, it can and slowly is getting better (perhaps not for him but oh well...) And to add on to your take of his MTA-praising hogwash, let's also not forget while he praises them for being some god sent compared to Nassau's current bus system, there's always those nitpicks come time to actually bring in a proper MTA unit into LI for whatever occasion and it usually follows the formula of: Praises MTA/MTA can do better/wants MTA to bring back LIB/MSBA. MTA brings in a local bus (XD40 in this case) to cover LIRR service. Complains that particular unit is filthy and ill maintained/NICE can probably do better with their "brand-new spanking XN40s. Literally posts a video the next day of a NICE XN40 with something that can be fixed in the maintenance bay. *repeat cycle* I really would like to think he's trolling but after seeing him go back and forth between blaming "Hurrr Mangano. Corruption. Taxi companies" and "Durrr. The Hispanics. Illegals. Everything is a pig sty cuz'er them", there comes a point where you think he either needs to be consistent (which we all know would never happen) or he needs to stay his ass out of LI and NYC Bus affairs and keep the complaining confined to himself... As for the younger viewers that watch have seen his or Andy's videos (some of which seem to be around my age or slightly younger), it's jarring to see how much technology we have at the palm of our hands and yet often times it can serve as a medium for both informing and misinforming and sometimes a simple Google or Wiki search just doesn't cut it.
  4. 7159 (i believe) is thus far the only one out of the 7xxx XD40 batch at UP that actually shows the stop info. All others play announcements but don't have the info side of the screen working properly.
  5. It's still $2.75. How much you get charged depends on if the farebox is signed up for a local/limited or express route.
  6. So there's already some visible work going on at the Rockaway Parkway . The globe lights and "BUS & SUBWAY" text on top of the station house seems to have been repainted or replaced with replicas. In addition, that electric gate that's supposed to prevent people from sneaking for a free ride onto the loading area and subway platforms is being taken apart as is the fence that seperates the and . I wonder how the free / transfer is gonna work after construction finishes this fall (assuming the gate might be removed). I also wonder what would become of those old trolley poles.
  7. Retire fresh-off-the-factory trains? Are you for real right now? It'll be beneficial financially to purchase and run those R179s now than to spend a needless amount of money just to upkeep a fleet of 50+ year old trains on their last legs that will get replaced anyways. Plus, as was stated multiple times in the past, this is nothing new. The R142s...also Bombardier made...have had their share of problems upon delivery. But look at it now 20 years after the fact. It's become one of the most reliable cars in the system.
  8. Unpopular opinion: She's not that terrible. Sure she just needs better recording equipment and needs to drop her NY accent but at the end of the day, she's only there at for what she's always been doing at her job: to give information. From a regular commuter perspective, frankly i don't give two shits. If she can articulate that this train is terminating early better than the conductor over a quiet or distorted intercom, then power to her. Now if anything, those butchered announcements that were tested on one of the R142 & trains were horrendous. The bare minimum just doesn't cut it sometimes...especially if it made no difference in cutting down dwell times.
  9. If one were to convince TA to uncover the skylights and perhaps give the station some good TLC, then maybe Jamaica-Van Wyck could easily be the sleekest looking station in the system that wasn't built pre-1960s nor built in the last decade. Heck the Archer Av Subway stations could really use some good power washing to really bring out their as-new 70s/80s brutalist feel.
  10. Not gonna lie...this looks better than what the Cuomo vinyl-wrap scheme is doing right now (especially with the blue on the top half on the side of the car)
  11. https://cloud.google.com/text-to-speech/ <<< This is about as least creepy any TTS program could get.
  12. One note I'd like to add here in the forums that wasn't shown in my video of the Luminator screens: When they were first testing it on C40LF 572, it initially annunciated all of the transfers regardless of how many bus and subway routes intersected (if you were in Flatbush Junction or Downtown Brooklyn, lord have mercy on ya soul). Not something I saw as an ideal fix but I'm glad they at least that they cut it off with "...and others" after listing 3 route transfers. What I hope in the future with the other screens made by Vianova and Clever Devices is have them list the multitude of transfers with "Multiple transfers are available" (a la NICE Bus) or something similar because those announcements for the transfers by Jamaica Center are just...
  13. 🤦‍♂️I swear these young YouTubers need to restrain themselves with these comments lest they wind up misinforming more fanners. Don't where they're getting these sources from but until East New York, Caitsith, or any other admins have any word about this supposed swap, best believe they're nothing but baseless rumors.
  14. What's up with most of the Clever Device screens not giving out route and stop info?
  15. DRI was aqcuired by Luminator and Clever Devices. Also the Clever Device screens already announce transfers. What should be fixed is how long it takes to load the transfer announcements after the initial stop announcement was made.
  16. On top of that, I also prefer the layout of the Luminator screens on the C40LFs over the others (1 smaller screen next to the ADA flip-up seats and the widescreen towards the middle). It's just simple yet effective.
  17. Pretty much all buses (old and new) do that regardless of generation or model. The engine's compressors release air after about 30 seconds regardless of the engine's RPM. TA has spec'd noticeably quieter air releases for the buses with the ISLG/ISL9/L9 engine.
  18. Can't count on the MTA to bring back the Bergen Street lower level unfortunately especially after enduring years of being unused which resulted in it being structurally fragile. Unless you plan on getting the surrounding community to pressure TA into restoring the lower level, they'll likely cite expensive costs for rehabilitation (including the need to add elevators in order to bring the complex up to ADA standards) as outweighing the benefits of relieving congestion if express service were to be restored.
  19. It's really either just unused track or empty trackbed. The station layout is consistent with that of a typical local station but, as stated before, plans changed last minute and the IND decided to have the present-day stop at Nostrand as well but by that time the mezzanine was already built and the trackbed for the intended bypass express tracks were in place. Had the ramping up of the express tracks to the mezzanine-turned-platform level were decided against, we would've seen a simpler crossover design albeit only for trains as per the original IND plans.
  20. On the 82 select as I speak and a few things off here: 1) Seems my driver forgot the memo that the 82 Select was supposed to turn on to Avenue K for Kings Highway instead of continuing straight to Flatbush via Flatlands. 2) Seems that some fare boxes are still taking MetroCard seeing that a few people got on without the driver saying anything 🤷‍♀️
  21. All of the exact unit's numbers I forgot about but here they are 1997-98 RTS: B47 and B6 Limited 1999 Orion 5 CNG: B103 1999 Orion 5 Diesel: B47, B60, and Q20A 1999-2000 C40LF: B8 and B35 2000 D60HF: M101 Limited 2003 Orion 7 CNG: B100 and B103 (Funny enough I was actually by Flatbush Junction at around the same time someone took a video of one on it's second to last day of service)
  22. Right. The way the programmer(s) simply don't program some typeable shortcut for most of the otherwise longer names/words for the destinations is out of place. "This is B82 to Limited Spring C R K T W R S" vs "Route B 82 Limited. Spring Creek Towers" can make a difference for regular commuters and especially for people with impaired vision.
