  14. Can anyone explain to me how trains are turning at Canal Street from Brooklyn going back to Brooklyn?

    P44pXX9.png

There are switches south of the (R) Canal St platform allowing for this type of turning. It's pretty ineffective but in such a situation this could be a vital link to other Manhattan lines.

  15. Track fire at West 4 Street–Washington Square due to some crazy homeless woman throwing burning gasoline-soaked garbage into the tunnels right where the switches are. Visibility is a problem in the tunnels and station on both levels and so West 4 Street–Washington Square is out of commission. A newly radicalized terrorist happened to have seen it and decided to copy the woman’s example. He dragged a waste bin from the streets above, set the contents on fire and tossed the contents onto the tracks at 8 Street–NYU, a nearby station. Fire and smoke took over the southern end of the southbound platform and tracks. Out of an abundance of caution, the entire station had been put out of service with no trains going through it. Personnel is being dispatched to take care of the problems and assess the damages.

  16. I have a crazy idea. What if the WTC Path lines were extended to the East Side and up on 2nd Avenue?

This way the Port Authority could co-fund the project. PATH train cars are only about 0.1 meters less wide than a typical R160. That is about a 1/3 of a foot wider than a PA-5. The systems would finally unify and use the MTA's new card for the systems.

I think this is one of the best ways to tackle the bus-commuter problem. A bus terminal could be built at the Harrison PATH station (there is a huge vacant lot next to the tracks), and commuters would be able to connect to all the trains they need downtown. The East Side would also receive direct access to many areas of New Jersey.

obligatory again this is totally not feasible blah blah blah

but the SAS project could recieve a ton more money if this were the case.

edit: also the (T) would be completely replaced by the PATH. Only the (Q) would travel with PATH trains to 125th St.
