  1. It's alright. In some areas, the SBS runs lighter than the local, while in other areas, they have similar loads. However, that's what I observed yesterday.

Yeah I noticed that too. The SBS seems lighter than the local. But maybe that's because the local comes first so people get on that. At least that's what I've noticed. But overall I am content with the Bx6.

  2. Honestly I can't for the Bx6 to get SBS. That courthouse traffic is horrible in the mornings. Today it took 13 minutes to get from Yankee Stadium to Sheridan Avenue (1 stop away mind you). It usually happens but since they are making the eastbound tunnel bus only, maybe it will speed up travel time in the mornings.

  3. They've been having alot of switching problems there lately.

Due to switch problems at 34 St-Herald Sq, the following service changes are in effect:

There is no c.png service between 168 St and Euclid Av in both directions.

Southbound b.png and d.png trains are running on the a.png line from 59 St-Columbus Circle to W 4 St-Washington Sq then on the f.png line to Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

Some southbound f.png trains are running on the e.png line from Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av to Court Sq then on the g.png line to Bergen St.

Some southbound f.png trains are running on the e.png line from Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av to  W 4 St-Washington Sq.

71 Av-bound m.png trains are running on the j.png line from Delancey St-Essex St to Chambers St and terminate.

There is no Metropolitan Av-bound m.png service from Forest Hills-71 Av.

    Allow additional travel time.

Also the Broadway Line is messed up

    Service Change  Posted: 04/11/2017  8:06PM

Due to switch problems at 34 St-Herald Sq, the following service changes are in effect:

Southbound n.png trains are running local from 57 St-7 Av to Canal St.

Some southbound r.png trains are running on the f.png line from 36 St (Qns) to W 4 St-Washington Sq then running on the d.png line to DeKalb Av.

Expect delays to southbound n.png, q.png, r.png and w.png train service.

    Allow additional travel time.

What are the odds that a switch malfunction would happen at the same station on two different levels.

  4. Anyway, I originally came here to share what happened this past Wednesday... After getting fed up with the (F) (there was some kind of delay at 75th around 5pm that day, that had trains crawling from Sutphin, to 71st - a ride that took a whopping 37 mins), getting off at 21st Queensbridge instead of Church, I went to my backup plan & wanted to take the B32 to the B46.....

Here's the kicker... Whenever I take the B32 towards WBP, I have this habit of always looking to see if there's an oncoming B43 (here is where I should've stuck to my guns & rode the full 32 out instead).... There was an oncoming bus in the distance, so I got off... B43 Lefferts gardens Prospect park sta (or whatever the signage exactly says) right? Nope..... By time I got off the bus & crossed the street to go around the corner to the B43/B62 stop, the signage had changed to Not in Service..... I was livid, and had to suppress the anger I already had, to not ending up getting into a fight w/ some a**hole Lance Armstrong-ing on the sidewalk that almost hit me.... So I walked it out to the (G), and surprise, surprise - a plethora of commuters are walking up the steps as I'm walking down them - meaning, I just missed the train... Great.

So the train arrives, and I shit y'all not - this train was so packed (all 4 cars), that the car that I ended up entering, had a guy's face pressed up against the glass part of the door.... I was going to let that train go if enough people didn't disembark, but luckily, enough from that car did..... Alright, so we get to Broadway.... Walk up the steps to commence the wait for a B46 (for those that don't know, only B46 locals run north of Dekalb now)..... I Waited...

    ...and waited.... and waited....

Guess what? Nothing showed up in 32 minutes..... Yep, the almighty B46 has no buses heading in any singular direction around 6:30pm for at least a 1/2 hour.... The first time I looked at the schedule on the pole there, a lady then states that she's been "f***ing standing here" (her words) for 15 minutes.... If I take her word for it, that means that there were no SB 46's for about 45 minutes? The f***? And it wasn't like I saw a sea of WBP bound B46's either - From the time I got off the (G) to the time I walked to the Flushing av (well, technically thornton/throop) stop, I only saw 5 buses... After I reached the McDonalds, I turned around to see if infact any SB B46's were in the distance... And, there weren't any.

The best part of the whole (broken) commute was that the B43 was on the right side of Broadway (forget what side street that is)... So I hoofed it (once I saw 3 people already at the stop, there was no need to run) to the stop... and that's all she wrote.

Some of this is my fault, some of it isn't..... After doing what I had to get done whilst in Jamaica:

    - Yeah I could've taken the (J) to Alabama for the B12

    - Yeah I could've taken the Q24 or Q56, for the same B12

    - Yeah I should've stayed on that (F) to Church

    - Yeah I could've stayed on that B32 to catch a B46 (armchair QB-ing would have me believing this one wouldn't have made a difference anyway)

    - Yeah I could've waited for a B43 (at Manhattan/Freeman) - one that was actually going to Lefferts Gardens....

But I'm not taking responsibility for epic delays on a train.... Not taking responsibility for a b/o miraculously being in service one minute, and then POOF - not in service, the next..... Not taking responsibility for no buses arriving along Broadway in the needed direction in 32 minutes.... Nope..... And now that I say that, it's actually worse than 32 minutes (even if I ignore the lady's 15 minute claim), because there was not one bus in that direction that passed by as I was walking to the B43, nor one in the see-able distance either....

Forgot to mention that in my walk to the B43, I actually considered taking the B48 - made my way to the stop & looked at the posted schedule - noted that the next bus was to arrive 12 mins after the fact... Basically, I was hoping for lightning in a bottle & got carpet burn instead....

In any case, F*** you, MT-lle (pronounced M-T-yay) - for those that know what llello is.

    end transmission...

Glad to know that I am not the only impulsive commuter in the world. I have a habit to getting off trains or buses for a "quicker" commute, only to have Satan take over and make me regret choices I've made. I guess it's the Aries in me.

  5. If any of you were to rebuild the Lexington Avenue Line how would you do it? Specifically, I am interested in what you would do with the City Hall Loop.

I would just make the curves not as sharp. The 14th St southbound platform would be shifted so that it aligns with the northbound platform, eliminating that gap filler. The Spring St curve would not be that sharp and I would make Bowling Green look like the Whitehall Street station.

The whole point of running the line under Second Ave / Chrystie St is to connect to Grand St.

If SAS was a full-four track line, then it'd look something like the 8 Ave line. The local tracks would have connections to the 63rd St lines, while express trains run the entire length of the line. All the existing stops would be retained, and the express stops would be the transfer stations (excluding Houston St): 116 St, 72 St, 55 St, 42 St, 14 St, Grand St, Seaport, Hanover Sq. The local tracks turn west on 125 St as planned and run to Broadway, while the express tracks continue under 3rd/Park Aves and Pelham Parkway in the Bronx. Hanover Sq would be built like Chambers St - WTC to allow for a connection to Whitehall St, and the express tracks would link up with the Fulton St line in Brooklyn.

My proposal would pretty much look like yours, except I would add stations at 79th, and St. Marks Place.

  6. Well, the  (F) &  (V) /  (J)(Z) share cars from each other (R160s, R143s, R46s, R42s and R32s), while the  (C) has separate rolling stock from the (A) (R160s and R32s). Can anybody correct me on this if I'm wrong?

The (A) uses a few R32s. But the (A)(C) are based out of different yards, while the (F)(V) and (J)(Z) are in the same yards. I guess their depots and the fact that the (C) operates longer hours compare to the (V)(Z) could be a reason why the (A)(C) are considered separate.

  7. The PA system on the A division that states when a train will arrive is being modified to sound similar to those on the B division, Original " The next uptown local (6) train to Parkchester will arrive in 2 mins. New "There is an uptown local (6) train to Parkchester 2 mins away."

The MTA loves to fix things that aren't broken instead of fixing things that are broken.

  8. 2- The proposed transfer/connection between the (L)-Livonia and the (3)-Junius Street stations. Is this really that important in the grand scheme of things? I have my doubts. Are there really riders who will utilize this idea.? This location is the 3rd stop on both trains and I don't see the overwhelming reason for the monetary investment. Hear me out as I'm basing this on ridership from the south and the southeast neighborhoods of Canarsie, Spring Creek, New Lots, and East New York. Riders from Canarsie and the east have easy access to the (L) via the B42, B60, and B6 buses from the south and the east at Rockaway Parkway. Riders on the B60 can also connect to the (3) or the (C) at Rockaway Avenue so I can't see them using the proposed connection/transfer. Riders entering the (3) at New Lots terminal or Pennsylvania Avenue don't appear to need this connection either. The riders entering the station at New Lots and Ashford St are either walking to the train or using the B6 or B15 buses for the most part. I know I'm leaving out the B84 but bear with me. If a rider on the B15 had to use the (L) train they would stay on the bus and use the New Lots (L) station. No one is going to climb the steps at the New Lots (3), disembark at Junius St, walk down the steps and backtrack to the east, climb the steps again, to catch the (L) train. The rush hour ridership entering the (3) at Pennsylvania Avenue want the IRT. Those who enter there come from the B20 or B83 buses from East New York or Spring Creek. If they want the other options the buses stop at Liberty Avenue (C) or Broadway-East New York (A), (C), (J), (Z), and the (L) train. Almost no one is going to use the proposed transfer because of it's location and the other safer available options.

I think the Livonia-Junius transfer will be used. If anything I can see the transfer being used by (L) riders coming from Canarsie. Instead of transferring at Broadway Junction, unless they really need the (A)(C) or (J), riders have another option to get to Manhattan or Downtown Brooklyn. Also what if the rider needs to go somewhere that is served by the (2)(3)(4)(5) in Manhattan/Bronx, a transfer at Livonia Av makes it much easier instead of walking up & down the stairs and dealing with the crowds at Broadway Junction.

  9. This is one reason why I believe every Bronx garage should be at least 75% artics/25% standards. Most of these routes are getting more crowded by the day.

The routes from the Bronx that really needs artics comes from WF (Bx6/36 for an example). All we can do is wait until the XNs come. Other than that GH and KB has enough artics to go around.
