Is there a procedure whereby the qualifications can be set to extend past the filing date upon an applicant's request? Meaning, you had your qualification requirements satisfied after the filing period expired but they give you an application to ask for waiving the deadline until the date you actually are called in? If there is such a mechanism, I wanna know about it...

If I have a Learner's Permit, is that gonna count if I got my license AFTER Dec 27?

Well the most important thing as far as I am concerned is how the protest sessions will impact the compilation of the final list. Hopefully they'll throw several questions out. I was told not long ago by a lady train operator that the MTA has a "severe need" for conductors. Maybe they'll run really deep into this new list, 6601.

I'm wondering what position I'm in with 4 wrong.I'm not obsessed with the exam at all.I am curious though.

The answer to that question depends on how many questions which were protested are tossed out. I am still wondering how that works. What happened in 8094? Can anyone explain how the protest session works? What determines a revision of the questions and answers? There were 80 questions in 6601. So for example, in my case, I got

 

74/80

 

If I protest three wrong answers, and they are tossed, does it become 74/77 or 77/80? (In the first scenario, I get 96.1039, in the second 96.25. That is a BIG difference).

 

Also, is there individual discretion involved in this? Meaning, if one applicant protests and his answer is granted or the question is struck, is that extended to all test takers or just that protestor? I would like to know how these protests are evaluated.

4.5 is not 5, so no.

 

2 years of work study must be paid. If wages were not earned that were taxable to you at the end of the year, it doesn't count. If doing work study was a condition of attending college but was never compensated, it doesn't count.

 

If it was compensated, you will receive part time credit based on a full work week. So if you worked 20 hours a week, 2 months of work study at 20 hours a week = 1 month of full time work.

 

Those must be added together to get 5 years, not 4.5, not 4.99.

 

If you don't have that by the cutoff date, you will be disqualified.

Thanks for the info. Can you tell me who sets the qualifications for the position of T/O? Is that at the Exams Unit at 180 Livingston? or elsewhere? What I would like to do is ask if they could perhaps adjust the requirement so that they defer the 5 years experience requirement. Like making the cutoff date as the day of appointment to schoolcar instead of the date of applying for the exam.

I have another question about qualifications for T/O:

 

The education and experience requirement asks for 5 years of paid full-time work, with part-time work being pro-rated, and with up to 4 years of college being able to substitute for the work requirement (30 credits for each year of work to be substituted).

 

So suppose I have 76 credits. Could that count as 2.5 years?

 

And if so, let's also suppose that I have about 2 years of work-study in college, which is part-time. There were about maybe 2-3 months in those 2 years when I wasn't working.

 

In total, I would have about maybe 4.5 years or so of combined work/education. Would that be sufficient to satisfy the 5 year requirement?

Or put it another way, do they allow rounding off years and months? Say, 4.5 into 5? And would they "pro-rate" the part-time work experience?

Here's a few questions maybe someone can answer?

 

In February 2004 the MTA held Conductor Exam 8014. How long was that list and how many people were called? And what was the lowest score of those called?

 

Ditto for 8094, which was held in 2008 and is apparently almost over. I know that there's a guy called Amm0 who posts here, and he got 92.5 on 8095 (that was my score on 6601!), and he was just called this May or something, his list was 53??. I think they are into the 6000s on 8094, correct me if I am wrong.

 

Another question: if there hadn't been any hiring freezes on 8094, and if that list hadn't been extended, would they have gotten that far down the list? In other words, would they have gotten down to 6000 in 4 years even without a hiring freeze?

 

I know it's different for each list, but I am curious about what the general range is for those called from these lists, both in list number and test scores. Knowing that would give me a realistic perspective on what to expect. Even so, I can gather that my chances appear borderline, but more information will give me a clearer picture of how likely it is to get called with 6 wrong.

 

And just in case anyone is confused, I am not drawing assumptions here or creating "realities". I only would like to know what the track record is on tests like these, at least what the averages are.

Everyone who passed the test will be put on the list and receive a list number, I think the chief (newspaper) will only publish the top 2000 scorers. Like Egyptian eyes said they will call from and exhaust the promotional list before they get to us O/C people. How long will that take? Nobody knows, it took them about 3 years to get to the last one. (view the 8094 thread) Nobody knows how long the list will be open they're supposed to be open for four years, but it can get extended and nobody can see into the future. (obviously) 

 

With 6 wrong you should have an idea of what to expect anyway. Just take any other exams you qualify for in the meantime and keep it moving, The false narratives and speculation won't change the reality. I don't mean that in a condescending way nor am I trying to be rude I'm just saying you have to be realistic with your score.

when the old list finish they will NOT call from 6601. They will call from the promotional list first. Now as for them calling you 2yrs after the list is establish... Um sorry to say that's not going to happen. Maybe 4yrs right b4 the list ends or they might not even get to your list number. The only reason they are going so high in the current list, is because it was extended twice. I'm really not trying to be negative but more so realistic. We will see tho. I hope you are right because that will mean I will get call within the 1st year (wishful thinking). Lmao. And I got 3 wrong most likely it will probably take them 2 or even 3yrs to call me. We got to remember a lot more ppl took this exam then the last ones.

2 years? I was told at the protest session that the list came out in February when the old list finished. I thought they started hiring from 6601 as soon as next year?

Just by viewing the responses from everyone. I'm not in bad shape either when it comes to the proposed key answers.

Only got 5 wrong. 75/80 correct. Hopefully in the 90-92% percentile and a decent list # when the list comes out.

I'm guessing the max to have wrong is 5-6. I took the test on 4/10/16 (PM).

According to this poster, it seems that 6601 actually has TWO tests. The first test that everyone took and then another test when they call you in. This is a new requirement that was added to the 6601 exam. Speech and reading comprehension. 

 

If I figure it correctly, this will weed out the mumblers and the easily confused. Given that, along with other factors related to failing the drug tests, failing medical, listing incorrect return addresses or no longer wanting the job, this could possibly speed up the 6601 list. I don't know how fast, of course. I would like to know how long the 6601 list is kept open, as well as how many applicants are sent letters each year, and how many from those go to schoolcar. Based on what has been posted here, it seems that it could be anywhere from 900-1500 who are sent letters from which maybe 480 are hired (#658 http://www.nyctransitforums.com/forums/topic/47706-conductor-exam-6601-open-competitive/page-66) or even more. I wish I knew more about this process. Hopefully getting 5-6 wrong won't be too long a wait, but in the end, as long as you get called, that's all that matters, right?.

Subwayfan, SubwayGuy, and Niku did have a point though. Looking on the outside from a non-biased realistic standpoint it does seem a bit misleading to suggest that they'd hire up to/over 2000 people within the first two years.

No no, you all misunderstood us. I guess we weren't talking about HIRING 2,000. I know they don't hire that many in one year. I think we meant how many get initially CALLED UP, as opposed as to how many actually got hired. So if they only hired maybe 450 in one year, didn't that mean they sent out twice that many letters? That's what I was trying to ascertain.

IMHO, cause you folks are getting out of control over nonsense. And in about 5 or 6 years, when the next open-competitive Conductor exam comes out, and people are trying to read through this thread to try to find valuable information, and instead they read over this nonsense and arguing that you folks have been doing, not only are they going to be wasting time getting their valuable information, which is IMHO priceless, but it's also going to look bad for the entire website!!

Why would you do that? All we're doing is asking questions, and getting some informed observations. Nobody is calling insults or flaming. We all just want info. We know, we know, it's all speculative at this point, and nothing anyone posts here will change anything, but then again it's not like the MTA will tell us what their hiring rate is or how many people they hire off any given list (except after they already call people from a list) or even how long a list lasts. They told me at the protest session this list will be good for 4 years. You're right, nobody knows anything at this point. So all we have to go on is what happened in years past. Speaking for myself, with a score like 92, I would like to think I have a realistic chance of making the cut. Which is WHY it is encouraging to hear other people say that the turnover at conductor is swift and that a range of several hundred people or more are sent letters each year. I really don't see the harm in reading different experiences people in the know have had with this hiring process, it's all part of the marketplace of ideas, right? Locking the thread means people won't have they ability to share their knowledge, and penalizing them will simply inhibit people from contributing potentially valuable viewpoints. Officiousness usually results in that.

So then see my previous post. I don't post misinformation here. If you just ask a random T/O or C/R, they may not know. They are not associated with the hiring process. I do my own legwork to stay informed on the issues I post on. You'll never see me answering things or giving info in a bus operator or station agent discussion for example, because I don't know the answers on those titles.

Second, whether you talk to a Train Operator or Conductor in person, or whether an experienced Train Operator or Conductor posts something on this site, it is only from prior experience. Even the last sentence of this post clearly states: "Past results do not guarantee similar outcomes on future lists." Therefore, at this point, regardless of who says what, nothing is official until the list comes out, and then we will take it from there.

 

Third, do any of you want me, or the other moderators, to start giving out warning points over this nonsense? It will be done, if necessary...

I didn't mean to mislead anyone. I just wanted to know if it is realistic for me to be called and I wanted to compare what the different views and informations were out there. But please don't accuse me of falsehoods. The numbers were given by other members on the board, not me. I merely asked questions. I have no information to give out, false or not. Also, when I was hired originally as a conductor, I had one question wrong. Took the test in 2008 and got hired in 2012. So I don't know about the getting hired in two years with 6 wrong.

Wasn't that because of the hiring freeze that was in effect? In #615 in this thread, and the subsequent posts, we have MTAhopefullMatt saying pretty much the same thing as the T/O I spoke with. Obviously, if they're right, I ought to get a letter in about 2 years.
