  1. I was hired as a temporary worker for signal maintainer due to me passing the practical exam, yea it's not easy in signal school but from talking to a lot of people

.its better to start off as a helper then promote to maintainer..

Temp worker is when you pass an exam

Provisional is when you took no exams ,in order to be permanent you'll have to pass the written or practical

  2. I know that feeling,I was off from the streets when called in for signal maintainer, I didnt pass the line control practical and was sent back to the streets..its good to start off as a helper such as yourself then move your way up..signal maintenance might seem easy but to get pass the school is the hardest part because your craming in so much info within 5 months..Ihad to be a signalmaintainer helper for 5 months getting signal maintainer pay..all i did was flagging...didnt learn nothing and alot of maintainsers are laid back and dont wanna teach you anything because their getting nothing for it

  3. those guys who say they never took a test are the ones who came in by resume , they HAVE to pass the test in order to become permanent, some guys are just not cut out for exams and got to comfortable as a provisional, so if you pass your exam or even get a list# from education and experience your still above them

  4. i have to go in next Sunday 3/25/18 for electrical helper BUT, I took the signal maintainer practical exam in April 2017 and got called on OCT 2017, took a drug test and pre-employment , the letter states Temporary position but I guess you start off like that till your permanent , I didn't hear back from them until 3/15/18  to come in for another drug test..i actually gave up on this exam after not hearing for months..so I went in on 3/16/18 and I had to redue back my pre-employment application and drug test which is crazy ..they said the application and drug test aren't good anymore after 3 months..so now I am thinking not to go thru with he electrical helper now since I got called for signal maintainer?

  5. even if you take this other exam in July you will be hired as provisional, the education and experience is the same thing as you taking the exam "multiple choice"  both you get a list # when established, if I was you I would take this signal maintainer exam that is currently out now and work as a helper in the mean time ..look at provisional as probation time that's all, I hardly heard of MTA laying off people

  6. my thing is this, I applied for exam 8606 as an "experience and education" application vs taking an exam for this...got a letter yesterday to come in 3/25/18 which is a SUNDAY? for a oral communication test , ( they just want to see if you know English) this is for a provisional position , would this ever change to Permanent?  do we get a list # from this ? I paid $61 for this application just like any other exam vs resume

I also passed the signal maintainer exam and was called in for a drug test in oct 2017 but never heard anything back, when I called they now telling me there taking people from the old list , so that was just a waste of my time

  7. hey guys, I applied for exam 8606 transit electrical helper in OCT 2017 and received a letter today for the same thing, the application was based on experience and education where there was no exam giving, is this job safe to proceed ? its for a "provisional" position and I am currently working at in my job for over 10 years now so its hard to make the move for a "provisional"

Moussaberte, why take the exam again if your already in?
