  1. tdevon, how much are the lessons costing you ?
  2. while the train is in movement your losing indication? there trying to get those doors open before you even stop fully ,? geez reason I am asking these questions because if you remember me I was in schoolcar for t/o and I had to resign due to my father illness and forgot I took the C/R exam as well at the same time..now they got to my list# and was debating if I should go for it, I can go back as a t/o I believe but if I would do it all over again I would start off as a C/R then go for t/o etc..but for $21 per hour I am trying to see if its worth the hassle
  3. anyone knows how long it takes a C/R to pick a job? as T/O's what are the main mistakes your seeing c/r'S doing? have anyone of you guys ever has a C/R pull the EBV on you?
  4. cool man, there is another school in queens called " ENA's driving school" I see there school bus up and down hillside ave
  5. ^ tdevon, where will you get your cdl at? training wise?
  6. this is why sometimes a lot of old school guys would take students , its like a refresher course for them and they learn new things from a student straight out of school car
  7. dammit, that messed up bro, so it was just a random and something was in your system? will that incident mess you up with other exams and jobs?
  8. far rock depot, you mentioned you didn't get thru probation, mind me asking what happened?
  9. during training you will gain a lot of weight, youll see LOL...you will be eating all kinds of junk..when I was in school car I just made a dam peanut butter jelly sandwich and packed it up because in some yards (Jamaica yard) it takes a good 20-30 mins alone to walk to the nearest store
  10. ^ what was your list# again? I believe they will reach to 7000 before feb, I never thought I would of got called for T/O and my list# was 41xx and last I check there over 8000..have faith you will be called for sure..patience..enjoy life now because once you get into MTA your life will change socially ..take as much vacations and do a lot of family functions from now..its a good job but it can take over your life so take my foolish advice .. I had resigned out of schoolcar for T/O for personal reasons and I am on the list for conductor as well, 65xx..if I do get called I might consider it just for the pension and sacrifice my lifestyle of leaving a mon-Friday job 8-4 weekends off
  11. my advise, is to start out as a conductor and then go into T/O,hell you might like conductor and remain as one..while training i spoke to numerous T/O's and conductors asking questions..seems like the conductors loved there job and the T.O's always mentioning to me they should of just stayed as a conductor..yea you get start off with a low pay but with a few hours O/T here and there and 6 years vested you will be ok
  12. i passed both of my practicals and my first signal exam,i resigned due to family issues and honestly i was not spending time with my daughter, this training would be easier if you have no small children and single or married without kids..but the reason i mention the situation regarding the superintendent was not due to a personal problem it was regarding my classmates..i wont mention the the superintendent but he failed 6 of my classmates one shot during the signal exam..we knew he had a personal problem with our TSS and he took it out on the class..he is known to give 2nd chances but that day he didnt give 6 of my classmates a chance to redeem there selves (after him and our TSS had it out before the exam even began)
  13. This is why I didn't leave my old job,the way they do things there is so wrong. .the superintendants are a**holes as well..you will now have to wait for the next exam ..Gluck man it sucks ..especially when they give you the dam uniform and all your family are proud of you now to take back everything to downtown Brooklyn back and having all your family and friends asking all sort of questions smh
  14. most likey 3pm or 4..mta will never let you out early especially during school car so be prepared and start planning your days
  15. Mikeems, when i took my first pratical i was nervous as hell..for me the signal exam was the easiest part but everyone is different..here are some tips Key Points -when you aboard your train make sure you turn on your air comfort and lights so you know you have third rail power -INSPECT ALL YOUR CIRCUITS AND MDC they tend to terminate the MDC and flip a few circuits...MAKE SURE if they MCO you dont go flipping those circuits back to normalize, let the TSS know and tellt hem your calling the dispatcher to notify them of the situation -ALWAYS CHECK YOUR HAND BRAKES BECAUSE THIS IS A INSTANT FAILURE -REMOVE YOUR CHAINS AND BARRIER SPRINGS when performing your cut and adds -MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR SHUTTER DOORS BEFORE YOU DO YOUR ADD (had the tss trick me and left the door open) -TRUST ME MAKE SURE YOUR CHECK YOUR BCO AND IF THE BCO AND AGAIN THE MCO IS CUT OUT MAKE SURE YOU LET THE TSS KNOW and notify dispatcher god forbid you get nervous and fail dont worry you get a 2nd chance but this time with the superintendent ! so pass the first time..you dont want Young out there or Gibbs if you know what i mean
  16. so much bad habits out there..just do it the school car way and you guys will be fine...senior guys will try to intimidate you but just ignore them for what it is..your only friend when becoming a T/O will be your TSS..senior guys are just pissed off because here you are as a newbee and you know more then them trust me..take advantage as a T/O and move up quick because the knowledge you know now is fresh in your heads..become a TSS,dispatcher or even work work trains
  17. i just think T/O position is not for everybody..i dont believe there is no horror stories..dont listen to the old schoolers who are on the job because they would tell you why are you wanting this job...then when you ask them how long you been on the job you would get answers such as 20 years,25 years and so on..so job shouldnt be that bad eh? LOL..alot of old timers are retiring because of the new tech trains and signals now are being recorded ..so its time for them to retire ..too much TO are getting written up for hitting homeballs and taking wrong routes..everyone and there grandmother are TSS or superintendants..so they will ride you even more now..its a good job but i believe the new bees will be paying for the mistakes of the old timers hench the reason why schoolcar is so hard and strict..just pay attention and make sure you want the job..as for signal exams ..i thought that was one of the easiest test i ever took..which job will give you the answers before the actual exam? mta gives you the answers you just have to retain it.the hardest part for me was the schedules, traveling, and family time..if i was younger i wouldnt even look back..so please as i said ..dont leave your current job because you never know..it sucked when people spend 13-15 weeks of training and when it was time for the signal exam they got 1 answer wrong and was terminated..sad..very and now they dont have anything to fall back to..so dont make a signal exam ruin your career
  18. im on the conductor list as well, my list number is in the high 65xx lol ..i just want to say good luck to those who are in schoolcar..its tough but make sure this is what you want..dont make the money fool you..i honestly was making more then i am at my current job..way more..but what was the point of me making all this money and couldnt of even enjoy the dam thing..i see some of these guys who work here for 25-30 years and there shot...they dont know anything ..only MTA they knew..so make sure you join a gym or keep active..you can gain so much weight LOL
  19. Matt thanks bro, it was VERY difficult when i had to hand in my tools and pass..especially waking up those cold mornings catching the train just to be on time with the class..it was a experience and a half..i myself was one of those who thought you operate up and down the tracks all day lol..but there is more to this job ..schedule,sleeping patterns, so much TSS out there to catch you do something wrong, trains going bie..i honestly think a MTA T/O is underpaid with the crap involved with the job..the best thing is to start out as a conductor then see from there where you want to go..FLAGGER,dispatcher,tower operator, evern WORK trains would be nice..
  20. hey guys, unfortunetly my journey to become a T/O has ended not because i failed anything i just resigned because more and more i proceed the less time i spend with my family and life all together..i went all the way to 15 weeks..passed my practicals and my first signal exam but T/O wasnt for me..i needed to spend more time with my 3 year old and this job would of took most of my time..this job isnt for everyone so please make sure you know you want this..meaning..the training isnt easy for what it is..its very intense and strict..dont be LATE or miss any days..study your SIGNALS ..your TSS's will drill you on signals and reading the iron everyday..i dont see how people are failing the signal exams my biggest fear was the dam practicals..hardest one would be cuts and adds..preparing a trainf or service is a piece of cake..PAY ATTENTION..especially your circuits, handbrakes, bco, mco, emergency brakes etc..your TSS plays a big role of you passing school car sad to say..some are here just for the money..Francis is a GREAT tss (francis with the dread hair) aka brooklyn francis.. -things that were told before you start school car are -what do you think a T/O does? answer from class " operate up and down the tracks" WRONG you will see the amount of stuff you need to do and know -be ready because this is 25 years to LIFE...you will have no family functions,no social life, and GET REST because you will need it -DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CURRENT JOB...take a leave if you have to..trust me this saved me
  21. For those who are in yx or finished..after the 3 weeks posting and your released on your own to the crew office..do they put you in a yard close to your home? Are don't hey have you bouncing all over the place? Those questions I threw out was just examples I had on my signal exam..there are many different exams ..so you can have more miscellaneous or lighted signals
  22. My yard posting schedule looks crazy ,we be all over at every different time schedule for 3 weeks then after its yx where you have to call for your schedule. .hope it's a yard close to my home Mikeems 25 questions. .10 fill in and 15 multiple choice..
