  1. An invitation to the next step is good. Anything can happen from open house, signals and def to the panel interview. There people in this forum who made it to the panel and got a thank you for applying letters later on. But those who score higher in the cognitive test and pass the interview will move faster than those that score less. The invitation for signals and definition should be high. After they see the amount of work that needs to studied. People start dropping like flies. They usually 30-50 people to signals And Def. For the test date after usually around 20 show up and about 10 pass to the next phase.
  2. You have an average accumulated all the way from the open house to getting into the program. They don’t tell you how you scored in the cognitive. I know I passed the synonyms with 42/42 because they had that in front of them. I could see my score on top of the paper. The other parts i don’t know how I scored. I guess pretty high since I made it into the program. That’s why you have to sell yourself in the interview. As for who they pick to move forward. I’m not sure. I passed, they said “IF” selected I would get a email with the next few weeks. I got the email the next day inviting me to the signals and definition.
  3. All depends how you answered on the preliminary interview and how you scored on the cognitive. The highest scores will get called first for signals and definition. To move forward to the next process is at their discretion. Not everyone moves to the next stage.
  4. Depends. Sometimes some new guys get weekends off depending how they pick their seniority in their class. Might be only 1 S/S job to choose from when subject to bid. But usually 4+ years
  5. If it’s Saturday. I think you should be fine. During the week it’s chaos
  6. What’s this for? Signals and Def? You’re better off taking the train. Parking is horrible around that area. you would have to circle around a few times. And usually all the side streets to park is around Dunkirk Ave. usually bumper to bumper traffic around 7-8am
  7. HR doesn’t like when people keep calling to find out about thier scores or invitations. Just a heads up. But maybe being persistent will help your process. Idk
  8. Who knows how they select people. I know a conductor who never applied to conductor. He applied for MTA Bus and they said he was a better fit for conductor because of customer service background.
  9. You’d be surprised how many people never hear anything back from HR
  10. Next class is qualifying now. Next class to qualify is June.
  11. Word is there’s about 30-40 people waiting for a class. Not sure how true it is.
  12. They probably saw your CDL License on your online application and figured otherwise
  13. Sometimes they’ll look at your resume and see your a better fit for engine service than an assistant conductor. There are engineers who applied for other stuff and got called for engine service instead. Even though they never applied for it.
  14. I think it’s the same type of exam. Cognitive exam plus math for assistant conductors. Also they don’t do conductors and engineers the same day. They’re scheduled on different days
  15. I would contact them and let them know that the date doesn’t work for you but would like to be given the chance to attend the next open house. Plus put the application in again.
  16. If you passed you would get a phone call. If you fail. No phone call or letter stating that you didn’t make it. Sometimes they send letters
  17. They don’t email if you passed. They call you to let you know if you passed. And yes. The highest scores go first.
  18. This as been covered numerous times in this group about ALL signals being there. The 25 signals was for the old conductors exam. Now I think it’s all 133 for them also. Best of luck
  19. Back then they didn’t tell you if you passed or not. They let everyone finish due to legal reasons.
  20. Yes. They’ll show you a picture of the signal. Name the signal. It’s not difficult. The difficult part is when you have 5 different signal types for one signal aspect. People get confused. The hard part is the written test. When you have to write out the indication of the signal. In the written there’s no picture just text. Example: “Approach Medium - _____________________”. Remember it’s all verbatim. You add an extra letter or misspell it, it will be MARKED WRONG.there’s go the 100% to move on.
