Baffling is not the word for this. I’m guessing the wants to balance the fleet ages and I get that. However, these buses are 3 years old and have mileage issues? I would of thought the NG’s would be out the door when they started sending some to Yukon last week. Hopefully, more NG’s and RTS leave than the XD40’s.
I’d leave the M22 and make necessary modifications within the lower east side portion and possibly extend to 14th and 1st or 23rd and 1st. Worse case scenario. Battery Park to City Hall(M22) and the Chinatown-Lower East Side to be serviced by a new route: M29.
Wow 😮. Did not see this coming. I guess it makes sense. Something had to go. Would of thought NG’s would be on their way out.
Just saw 7365 last night on the 46 local. It’s going to be weird seeing sets of 73xx buses in the East.
West Farms has borrowed 2 from Casey Stengel- Queens. 4210 and 4218, and I believe they have 4416 from Gun Hill (on loan). Who knows those may stay for the weekend and head back. Also, any day now West Farms is due for new artics. I know 1016 is already there. Dunno if 1019 or 1020 made the trip into West Farms.
However, the M21 runs along Houston Street in which has a better market, expanded roadway. Although the train connections aren't that great. However, that route basically does it's job. What you don't want is a cluster of buses running down Canal street and just sitting in heavy traffic.
I don't think Canal Street should warrant a crosstown. The amount of traffic that flows through that area is horrendous.
I'm not trying to knock down your idea. However, on any given day canal turns into a parking lot any day of the week including overnights, and weekends.
Also, what type of market are you creating with this route?
That's very rare... Look like that driver had plenty of seniority and was able to take the prevost out for service or not enough NG's or LFSA's at the depot..
Definitely would be nice to see one on the S78, S79 or even S89.
Yes. The Thruway- Bronx Extension definitely needs a HOV lane to get those buses moving. Direct this to Mr. Byford. I’m sure he would have to looked at. I feel if you are paying premium fare, premium service must be offered.
7621, 7623, 7624, 7629 and 1 more are in house. Last night i spotted 7633 and few others parked in Queens. I think those may head down as soon as today.
As I was leaving the airport from work last night more XD40’s we’re pulling into the lot. Right now at least 15 are there in addition to more stored at a undisclosed location on property.
Good news is that it’s going to be a great summer for new buses throughout the city.
... and this is why there needs to be some form of enforcement when bus fare is not paid. For instance in Brooklyn you can’t take the dollar van and be short .50 cents and expect to take the ride. People do it. Sometimes the driver will notice right away, others turn a blind eye.
However, if you are on a bus and every time you are trying to short change the driver that has an effect on how the fare is collected, also the drivers handling of the bus and other contributing factors. Fare evasion has to be addressed in a way people will need to get or else suffer severe consequences possibly taking away privileges.
