  1. Hello to all, Someone I know told me that they was called to come down for the medical screening for this exam (4600) and while filling out the questionnaire they checked that they had higher than normal blood pressure. Although All test taking was cleared including the blood pressure. When they seen the last doctor, he told them that because they expressed a blood pressure issue that they have to get tested( on their own) for Sleep apnea. Have anyone else experienced this type of situation during the medical screening for this title? thanks in advance and good luck to all
  2. Yes you can, but you will have to Resign with the LIRR. Make sure you do your due diligence with the NYCT title before you give up what you have.
  3. Thanks again, and your right, its a bit off topic but if any one here has the experience the application just cane out on 4/8/16 for SME ( Structure maintainer E) which is for MTA plumbers. And they probably will be hiring people from this exam as provisionals.
  4. Youre not lying i got 103 on that sanitation test my list number was in the 4000's lol. Almost 100k people took that test
  5. Good job stevenyc keeping everyone updated although you already made it to a class, most guys on here just vanished once they were sworn in. I have a question do you know what trade the maintainers were that you were in orientation with? Example masons, carpenters, plumbers etc. They have been hiring alot of maintainers lately. Thanks in advance
  6. They wont hire you until you pay those tickects. I seen guys have to run to DMV to pay and come back with proof of payment.
  7. Same here spike, 40hr in two days including paid sleep time... it burns you out though. Picked up some well needed OTO. I dont think we will see anymore 5+ inches of snow anymore this year, its been really mild
  8. I know of atleast two people who said they never received any correspondence for a test date...
  9. Thats a fact! Any time u pick up a shovel thats time and a half..
  10. I thought the 3 in 1 rule only applied to promotional posistions also.
  11. Those guys that got picked out must have picked "x" or "temp" jobs those jobs are not solid Upo were u able to get in capital nights? If so how do u like it?
  12. I Seen guys standing on the 3rd rail protection boards. Sitting having their lunch on the 3rd rail protection boards ( with their key chain hanging from the side of their pants). Thats crazy to me. Those boards dont even look sturdy. And u dont know when they can give. I have worked 17yrs union construction on the out side and i seen how fast an accident can happen. And 600 volts is nothing i want to play around with.
  13. FYI ALWAYS treat that 3rd rail as if its live! ALWAYS! and stay on point on those tracks those trains are unforgiving! When i went for flagging i seen seasoned guys do some dangerous things. And i pray i never get that comfortable. Be safe out there!!
  14. You are partially correct. Some guys can retire but dont want to for what ever reason. And other just came in at a late age 40+ and dont have the time in. Or you can have guys that didnt do the right thing with their money throughout their career and they are forced to keep working. Different situations...
  15. We're here to help each other and Dunnlick is on to something. I started as a Track worker when I was 22. I'm 45 now. I had no kids, no second job, nothing requiring my attention other then my girl friend and pet fish at home. I tried showing the old timers I could pull my weight with the He-man acts, tried keeping on the bosses good side carrying as much as I could handle. Plus, I didn't want to make to many trips up and down. Now I have bursitis, a bad back, calcium deposit in the rotor cuff, etc. Don't be a show off to much trying to prove yourself. There's plenty of time for proving your self. For some guys this job if all they have going for them and it's their life. Let the other guys help if they offer. It shows your a team player and you get to know the other guys. Lunch, by the book, is between the 4th & 6th hour. In reality, by the time you get on the Track, get set up and start working lunch comes after the job is done close to morning time. Once in awhile you'll get a easy night and the foreman lets a few guys break off and rotate going to get something but usually the men vote to work straight thru. Point I'm making is most guys would eat heavy in the morning after work and then rest and go home and go straight to sleep. The guys with kids had it even harder and pretty soon 5 years later half my class were now type 2 diabetics from not burning off heavy meals. If that's caught on a physical for a promotion or return to work after being out 21 days sick or from an injury, then you'll be going for a medical every 6 months to a year. Don't let the schedule / life adjustment get the better of you. Watch your health. Every aspect of it. Great info. Right here guys
  16. I thought top pay for track worker was $29 ( that could have been from the old contract). And yea all new guys got screwed with this contract, especially with pay raises and pension contribution but thats another thread. Also guys if you plan on seeing 80k in a year, be prepared TO NEVER BE HOME! Its rough when u have a family
  17. Even if you miss the class coming up, atleast you know why. And that u are not just waitng home on a letter. Your time was not wasted going to livingston IMO. Good luck
  18. All you guys coming in, in October its a good time ( although oct 5 is a little better). November is filled with holidays and yall will be able to pick up some AVA'S. You will learn more about it in school but try and load up your ava and oto bank. It comes in handy especially during your first year.
  19. those that take merto north and the LIRR will get free passes....
  20. If you rather the current position you have just do what i did. Take your name off the list, then put it right back on. If not than take the track worker job. If you are permanent you should have a year to come back to your old posistion without loosing seniority. DONT QUOTE ME ON THAT CHECK WITH THE UNION FIRST..
  21. congratulations upo1, thats also good news that they have 2 classes coming out in October the list is moving
  22. Good info. Dp142 most people dont realize x jobs and temp jobs are a gamble . Everyone in my class that had an X job fot picked out already (through pre bids). A few people are still on from temp jobs. If you get a x or temp job in a senior shop dont get comfortable. Atleast thats how its looks in my department.
  23. Also to everyone in this class, please dont do like all the guys in the previous classes, once u get the job you forget about those still waiting in line here on this forum. I been in the system for almost 4 months now for a totally different position, but i still give what ever info. I can ( when i can) to those that are waiting. Remember how u felt while waiting and how the info. From this forum helped.. Good luck to those that have been sworn in and to those that are still waiting to get called!
  24. Before you go down there. Find out about what the letter is saying. Idk if you feel like sharing but did you resign from TA or was fired? If push comes to shove and u feel like u should have a fair shot get the union involved. Although your not technically an employee they might be able to help or get you a clear answer on whats TA issue with you. Good luck, but dont give up they strung you along for so many years. You deserve an explanation
