  1. The R211T's are basically a modern-day version of the R110's. It's meant to test the technology before the MTA decides if they want a full order. The fact that there are 2 versions of the concept clearly indicates that these aren't meant to be production cars. The fact that these issues like the smoke detectors are prevalent shows that even if the MTA wants to order these trains for their increased capacity a final version will most likely have more changes. Once you start seeing production cars then there's a good chance they'll get assigned to routes that need them. Testing new technology on less busy lines like the makes sense because you have a controlled environment.
  2. That's disappointing I was hoping ESI would be the new standard going forward.
  3. I'm glad to see the LIRR preserving trains. I wasn't sure if they even did it.
  4. I'm hoping it gets the same treatment as the Astoria stations but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
  5. That's my all-time favorite conductor right there There there a link or something you have for this? I find myself in DC quite a bit and that would be useful just in case.
  6. It still happens on the , on hot summer days, just not done by all crew members..
  7. On a side note is it possible to take a carry-on bag on the express buses? I've been wondering about this because I typically take the LIRR and local bus because I'm worried about getting yelled at or being unable to make it on or off the bus with it.
  8. There’s a train in Corona yard with the first 3 cars completely graffiti bombed right now.
  9. There is demand it's just that it shouldn't be the job of the Q44. Had it been a Flushing to Fordham route that would be one thing but Jamaica to Fordham, is just too much. Jamaica to Fordham would honestly benefit from a regional express bus, but we don't do that here in MTA land.
  10. The Q75 really should be going to Forest Hills, Forest Hills and Fresh Meadows are both destinations, and Q88 passengers having to ride a long haul for a local stop are just getting shafted at this point. Forest Hills would be a better destination and can supplement the Q64 which is ridiculously crowded. The proposed Q98 is one of the best things in the proposal for Flushing riders IMO. QCM is a major destination that's pretty popular for people in NE Queens, but that requires either backtracking via the subway or taking the Q88 and transferring. As for Broadway and Corona, I feel people would rather take the subway, and the only people who would take the Q58 live by the line or are trying to save money on a return trip. The center of where people want to is by Elmhurst Ave which is a bit of a walk on top of the fact the Q58 doesn't even stop near the station in Flushing either. MY EYES THEY BURN
  11. Maybe because this is mainly a CS issue but I was so used to fareboxes being broken I was hesitant to start using OMNY. But now it seems the other way around. The farebox almost always works and it’s the OMNY reader that’s broken, but I’ve yet to see it happen at a route for another depo until now.
  12. This is a first for me, got on the QM5 and the OMNY reader didn’t work so I got a free ride. 😁
  13. Aren't Amtrak tickets on the Hiawatha unreserved? The idea that an intercity line and not a commuter line seems a little BS to me. But it also seems like the state has something to do with this considering it's a state-supported route. Wisconsin seems to always be battling whether or not they want to fund Amtrak service/improvements.
  14. Just stay away from any angry employees, people, or cops, and leave if they tell you to, otherwise, you're probably fine. Also if someone tries to escalate the fact you're taking pictures here's the rule that says you can take pictures it's 1050.9-c. Since there are always tourists and railfans taking pictures I highly doubt you encounter anything, just use common sense if it looks sketchy stay away.
  15. If it didn't happen yet I'd still try to go. Honestly, you can sign in explain the situation to the trainers get the packet, and leave. They made me sign in and out at the same time.
  16. So hidden in Remix I found out the Q26 overnight service is from Flushing to College Point only. But they don't have it starting on Main St and Roosevelt Ave but instead at 38th Ave and Main St at a stop that it doesn't use during the day. https://platform.remix.com/project/d6368ff6/line/8171a407?latlng=40.76631,-73.83294,14.261&pat=606483087&dir=0
  17. It’ll probably go something like “ew poor people coming into our wealthy neighborhood won’t anyone think of the children?”
  18. I haven’t gotten the chance to look at much yet, but just glancing at the map they walked it back so much. This is basically the Bronx redesign all over again. The sad this is there were some good proposals that were taken out too. No more 43 LIJ is no more, the old 36 remains, They didn’t even bother trying to salvage Fresh Meadows to Forest Hills (73), and the new 75 is just ??? So far I don’t hate it but, it’s boring to say the least they played it too safe. Looks like they walked back almost all the express bus changes but too. But they seem adamant about the QM65. They walked back the Q4 to Elmont and instead gave us the QM64 to Elmont 😂.
  19. Yeah, I had about a week's notice, but they sent it to the wrong email. (Not even sure how they got it since I never recalled using it.)
  20. I made my first trip not too long ago and this. The connections there feel like a mess. From my experience during less busy hours buses are running early so they're usually staying at a previous pulse point longer than scheduled and then catching up. But then during rush hours the buses are stuck in traffic and are unable to keep up with the schedule anymore. I missed 2 pulses back to back and saw a couple of other buses miss the pulse points too. I will say Walt Whitman seems to be timed pretty well even though it's not a pulse point. Riverhead seems to be decent as well but you can have some buses come as early as 15-20 minutes before the pulse.
  21. Ugh, I'm annoyed because I'm not available during my specific outreach session. The borowide one is during lunch which is also annoying.
  22. Question if you're invited to the S&D overview at the Hillside Support facility, can you take the LIRR to the Hillside Support facility station? I've been invited but haven't received a response to my confirmation or question from HR. I'm not even sure where the visitors' entrance is.
  23. So, what does the crew do next if they end up at the wrong station and the E-brake has to get pulled?
  24. I remember seeing signs like this all over the IND. In a lot of cases though punching the wrong route probably isn’t the end of the world. The IND has a lot of redundancy. Ie. an train that accidentally punches for 6th Ave will be able to rejoin at W4, same thing if an accidentally goes to 8th Ave. You definitely will piss off a lot of passengers and the dispatchers though.
