  1. bkborn. Keep an eye on the message board. If they start sending letters to people in the 670 range then I would assume they are looking for a class after the Oct 5th class. Track school is 6 weeks so if they scheduled a class right after the Oct 5th class it would be in mid December or mid january. They usually take a little time in between class. So I would say january sometime. They need people for the winter months. Also, the reason the 670 number is of significance is because they have bee pulling 100+ people to fill a 35 person class. The current class is close to 60 people. Last hired was 272, so if they kept the trend up they would pull up to number 572 or more to fill the current class. However, I think anyone going in for the first "interview" this week will not make the current class because they call you back about a week later to come in for your 2nd interview. The next class will be in progress a week from now. So I would assume that anyone coming in this week won't make the current class but will be in very soon. Might be your christmas gift.
  2. true but the percentage of people who don't make it after starting class is pretty low I'm sure. I was just saying in general that's how it is with government jobs (not specifically MTA). In general if you Get a letter and pass your drug test for a government agency then you typically get the job. Its very different from the hiring process in the corporate world. Anyone who has experienced both can't deny that.
  3. you definitely got lucky. I was there for almost 8 hours. Once I got in the room a bunch of bus operators came in for randoms and skipped everyone. I think one dude got busted. He looked high and was escorted in by someone with a badge. Started going back to the gym yesterday. I'll be damned if I start, get injured, and miss out on all that OT this winter. For any of you guys in your 20s you might not have to but I'm creeping up on 40 everybody in my age group knows how it is at this point. Shit deteriorates real quick.
  4. I guess you never had a government job before marcel. So i'll explain how it typically works for you and anyone who never had a government job on the forum. There is no interview and they don't really care much about your job history even though they ask about it. Once you pass the test and get your letter you pretty much have the job. The only thing that can screw it up for you is YOU. Nothing that your past employer can say can screw it up for you unless you were convicted of stealing from them or something. In the government sector your test score is your resume and your drug test is your interview. Do good on those and the job is yours. This is not corporate. There is no ass kissing to get the job. You are either qualified via your score and drug test or you are not. No one can prevent you from getting the job by doing petty things like talking negatively about you like in corporate. Don't worry. You have the job already. Its just a matter of getting your call to come in for final processing. That depends on how many people are ahead of you. That's all that really matters. Apparently a lot of people have been getting turned away. So as long as you pass your drug test you are in. Most likely the class after this one. If you will be in the oct 5 class they will cal you in for final processing by oct 2. That's when I go in for final processing. The guy on the other end told me to give my job notice. He wouldn't recklessly tell me to do that if I wasn't starting on the 5th.
  5. feels good ha dunnlick. I'll see you in class. Told you that a while ago
  6. it is curently 11:24 AM 09/24/2015. I just got the call to come in next friday Oct 2nd for final processing. List number 34x. Good luck to everyone else calls are officially rolling in.
  7. anyone get called in for the second "interview"yet? Class starts on the 5th so I assume they will start calling no later than next friday.
  8. thanks and same to you BK. Tied up all loose ends a month ago. Even parking violations.
  9. Not that its any of my business BK but why. I discovered this board because of your posts on another forum. You helped me out a lot with all the info you provided (reliable info). Was hoping you got in ASAP. Anyway, a lot of people are turning it down. I'm just curious as to why. Thanks again for all the posts you made. They helped a lot of people.
  10. I only had the info because I am being processed for a few police departments. I know most won't have the info but at least you can start. I've filled out worse for NCPD and university police. These packets can be very tedious. They tend to be so bad that a lot of people say forget this crap and never finish filling them out. Trust me bobert. Do what you can at the office and do the rest at home. It will make a big difference.
  11. While you wait you can fill out your packet. Trust me you won't want to spend hours doing it on your own time. I finished all 21 pages before I even got a chance to piss. Oh and congrats. As for making it to the Oct 5th class good luck and keep this in mind. A lot of people fail the drug test, a lot fail the background, and a lot won't even finish filling out the packet. They have been taking 100+ people off of the list to fill a 35 person class since February. This class is double the normal size that means they potentially have to go through 200+ people to fill the class cause a lot won't make it through the process. Last number hired was 272 which means that they could potentially get to 472 for this class. You are a good amount behind me so considering you got your letter that could mean that some people got their letters and turned it down and some could have failed the drug or they could be gearing up for the class after this one. In either case it means good things for people who were in the first round of letters sent out this time around. Good luck though bobert. Hope you make it.
  12. there is no quota on the size of the class. Classes can have 60 people. 20 to 30 is a small class. All 57 of the people they are looking for will be in the next class
  13. dunnlick the recruiters confirmed the october 5th date for the next class. Anyone making that class should expect a call next week. I should be there and so should you. God luck and see you then.
  14. 57 is a good number. Thanks again for all the info. Hope I make it in that class with you. sitting in the office right now waiting to do the drug test. Not many people here today. Slowest I've ever seen this place.
  15. That sucks. Thanks for the info though dinnlick
  16. MTA gives randoms to employees. Trust me the minute you take that test they know if you failed or not. Never the less, from what i've seen posted you don't do your medical until the following week at the earliest. Was just wondering if anyone else's letter stated that they are scheduled for pre interview and medical which includes hearing exam on the same date. This is what was on my letter. Things change so maybe they will do both on day 1. If anyone has the same thing on their letter please confirm.
  17. Letter says to come in for pre interview and medical on the same date. From what I read of past posts I thought medical was on a different day. Can anyone who has been processed verify?
  18. List number 34#. Got my letter yesterday. Begin processing on sept 17.
  19. The letter says you can decline appointment and will remain off of the list until you "submit a written request to DCAS at 1 Centre street, 21st floor, New York, NY 10007 requesting that your name be restored to the list." Do that and they will call you at a later date. The letter also says that if you do NOT want to be considered for appointment then don't report to appointment on the date the letter states.
  20. Rcvw you can always tell them to call you at a later date. In the past you could do it by letter. I will read my letter and let you know but I think it has that option on there. But if not just go in on your date and tell them you want to be called at a later date. They will keep you on the list and call you for the next class you would be eligible for. Will read my letter and get back to you. I know people who turned the job down for at least a year then finally took it when transit said this is your last chance.
  21. Your schedule is set Dunnlick it doesn't change for years. New people don't tend to get mornings. If I'm not mistaken the only way it changes is if you bid for a change and get it. Expect to work nights for the next couple of years.
  22. Got my letter today Dunnlick have to report sept 17th. Did you get yours?
  23. I understand the process. Its the same with all government jobs. I believe the situation was that they just didn't get to your number in the first 2 classes though. I know people who start working maybe a month after receiving their letter. Its just strange that they sent out a letter to anyone in the 300s in February. I'm only a few people behind you so I expect to make the next class. Usually when you get that letter you are in a group of people expected to be in the up coming class. Good luck anyway. Hope you make it. If your number gets called I will most likely get called also.
