  1. Hey busdriverwannabe, thanks! You were spot on. I went in for the medical today, and the start date they gave was too soon. So I asked to postpone my list number until the next training class starts, which should be mid October. This timing works out perfect for me. They said it is no problem. You were right, though. I will probably have to redo my drug test, but as long as the class starts within 90 days, there should be no need to do the medical again. Also, thanks for the idea for a visiting nurse. It is one of those situations I am way too close to, and wouldn't have ever thought of that. It might come in handy.
  2. Got a tough problem. I have to report for my medical tomorrow. As I understand it, once you do your medical, they start you on training pretty soon. Like a couple of weeks? My problem is a family member had an accident and I need to spend the next couple of months helping her out. Brining her to doctor, physical rehab 3x weekly, bringing food. Basically checking up on her every day. I don't know if I can commit to the MTA right now, and I also don't know if I can pass it up! Is there a procedure for this? I don't want to get kicked off the list entirely. Is it possible to postpone the training, and get called in with the next batch of people? The person I spoke to on the phone from the MTA wasn't very helpful. I'm hoping others here can share their experience. I've been waiting almost 2 years and really don't want to let this opportunity go. Thanks
  3. They called you in to do the medical already? What was your list number? This is for the 4600 exam, correct?
  4. No problem man! It wouldn't have made a difference bc I couldn't get it in time. I just wanted to know if it was gonna be a problem. Now I just gotta wait 3-90 for the medical so I'm gonna be constantly anxious for the next 3 months lol. Feels like it's moving so fast now. I live in Queens and I'm pretty sure my commute is gonna suck pretty bad, right? TA only does Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn from what I understand. If I wanted a closer depot I would need to look at MTA Bus. Any opinions on which borough is good to start out in?
  5. Thanks everybody you were right, no diploma needed! Saves me $60. Also thanks for the addl info YoungNYC, much appreciated.
  6. Thanks for the replies everybody. So now I can only hope they don't hold up my application because of the diploma. Who has that!? On 1 weeks notice!? I ordered it but like I said, it takes 4-6 weeks. I have another question. Once I go in on Friday to do paperwork/drugtest, how long is it usually until they call you in for medical, and then when the medical is done, how long is it usually until you start training? And my understanding is the 1st day training is at Zerega, but the rest of it is assigned to a random depot in any of the boroughs. Is that correct?
  7. Hey guys, I got my letter inviting me to 180 Livingston St this Friday. One of the requirements is highschool diploma or GED, but it says (if required) after. So my question is, do they really want the diploma? How do I know if it's required? I called my school and it would cost $60 and take 4-6 weeks to receive it. Will this be a problem? Also, on the DMV form, there is a spot to list any tickets your received, but without a timeframe. My abstract is clean, but I do have tickets from before that. I don't remember any of that stuff! Are they looking for stuff farther back than the abstract? If they are, how do I list these tickets if I don't remember anything about them?
