  1. I have a tiny checking account at Citizens Bank with no fees, no minimums used solely for OMNY and commuter train ticket purchases. I applied for a senior Metrocard for no other reason than to get its serial number and convert my OMNY account to senior. I see no reason to ever get an actual OMNY card.
  2. " he said no it will not be delayed because I have not heard anything that will be delayed. " It will be deemed "delayed" only after they blow the next target date, which you can bet they will.
  3. EZpass was original though to be one huge system for everyone. Then the indiviudal agencies went their separate ways. While still inter-operable, each is locally managed, branded, and some charge "foreign" EZpass accounts as cash, like the NY Service Center. I don't know why PATH is bothering to change at all if they are ignoring OMNY. They already have a tap Quickcard.
  4. So they don't integrate with commuter rail. Not necessary. They won't give out discounts, will not take the revenue hit. if it means commuter rail passengers will always have to tap out at stations like on SEPTA, that won't be tolerated here. People are running for their cars and last two taxis, don't want to queue up while people fumble with their phones and OMNY or bank cards like at a a toll booth.
  5. I just got my Senior Metrocard today, not that it will ever see the light of day, except for maybe a NICE Bus, not that I plan to do so. All I need is its serial number so as to pair it off with my OMNY Debit card, which I diid. They should give you the option of getting a Virtual MC and save the expense making a useless card.
  6. Too bad that they cannot issue a virtual senior Metrocard upon request by a checkbox for when only a serial number is needed to upgrade to OMNY. It would save them some expenses. I am going to shred the thing once I get it and cut it over.
  7. I don't like to wave my phone around in public. I keep it strapped in my belt holster. I am too cheap to buy an OMNY card. I have a special bank account with no minimum balance, no fees, and keep a minimum of $2.75 in it or whatever I anticipate for planned trips. I also use the card to buy LIRR westbound tickets. I use Traintime eTix for eastbound trips on my phone. That debit card is in a clear acrylic case attached to a chained belt rail normally used for keys. Then I don't have to take my wallet out to get to it. I have transferred from NJT to LIRR with as little as 2 minutes to spare. I'm a tourist from New Jersey. But given the crime, I will no longer use the subway, only a bus within Manhattan, or the Q32, or the LIRR, or NYC Ferry to get to Queens. Too bad NYC Ferry doesn't accept it, but I also applied for their senior discount. It comes down to bringing their approval letter to the manned ticket booth at Pier 11.
  8. I want a senior OMNY account, but not a physical card, just continue with my Debit card. It sounds like you can only do that by transitioning from a Senior Metrocard, which I never had. The last time I used Metrocard was a couple of years ago before I was 65. So I just applied for Senior Metrocard, which I should have in two weeks. It will never leave my house, and I will transition it to my Debit card.
  9. Yes - https://www.reddit.com/r/nycrail/ The same jerks with no life are back flaming away again on a Subchat like nothing happened for the 4 -week outage.
  10. Well it is back up. Came back some time on 8/16 afternoon. Of course, it could crash again. This has happened before. I do not intend to lower myself and return to it.
  11. There is a reddit board also that seems pretty civil, though not too active. Which FB group are you referring to ?
  12. Traindude was the most mean-spirited, angry, stupid, egomaniacs there, and evidently felt emboldened and superior to everyone since he was once a mucky-muck at the TA. Besides cussing out political opponents on OTChat, he would wish death to left winged politicians, and did so almost daily. That should have put entire website on a FBI or DHS watch list. He would then carry his grudges over to Subchat board dropping F-bombs on posters he disliked, wished cancer on one of them repeatedly. Larry the site owner lacked any sense of responsibility to moderate and throw these people out. He should have been embarrassed for condoning it for years, but evidently lacked any common sense. The civilized posters will Google around and find other places to obtain information, exchange proposals, and ask questions without the vitriol they think is macho.
  13. I do not, but it's long overdue. It gave NYC area railfans and advocates a bad name. I suspect the antiquated software combined with the owner's refusal to do any needed moderation to throw some nasty trolls off who wished harm on others on a regular basis if not just cussed them out, which would get them thrown off any other reponsible social media. Larry may have simply decided to finally throw in the towel and not babysit a bunch of nasty, overgrown 3rd graders. Subchat became the last refuge for such people, and many others have quit using it over the years due to some behaviors. What needed doing was to get rid of OTChat, whose hostility and grudges spilled over to Subchat board, throw 3 or 4 people off entirely, and it might have been far more civil.
  14. The FTA told them to reroute the F or refund the money UMTA gave them because a part time M train could never generate enough ridership to justify it, and that was funding condition. Prior to 1988, it was a confusing mixed bag of Q, F, and B trains to provide service 7/24/365, or else. Of course FTA has no problem with it - they demanded it. The TA couldn't care less about serving Roosevelt Island and 21 Street as a stub service until the Queens Blvd connection. E and F trains ran through 53rd Street fine for 50 years with 30 TPH, and during some years with 11 car trains. The very same E & F trains still share the express tracks west of Forest Hills. Decongesting the 53rd Street tunnel was not a valid excuse.
  15. The 1834 (or 1836) LIRR charter was from Brooklyn to Greenport. But LIRR has pondered abandoning North Fork service many times. Their charter means nothing. I think title of the Atlantic Branch west of Jamaica and Tracks 4 & 5 belong to Atlantic Avenue Railroad Company. Again, that is useless trivia. Greenport service runs so as to keep from angering Riverhead, Southold, and Shelter Island towns and pulling out of the MTA tax region. MTA could put the Brooklyn shuttle under TA fare control, but are gun shy about totally severing its service from the rest of the LIRR. The little that will remain come December is already gaining large protests, along with rezoning Port Washington Branch service at Bayside rather than Great Neck. The proposed West Hempstead 7-day service thru service is a sop. MTA has been psychologically opposed to the RBB since the early 1970's. I suppose they thought getting rid of the double fare on the Rockaway peninsula in 1975 would have put and end to any discussion of the RBB.
  16. What would you do overnight and weekends when there is no M ? That's why the shoved the F train to 63rd Street. The FTA told them too.
  17. When has the MTA completed any major project for less money than they estimated ?
  18. The RBB embankment has not only thousands of trees, but tree trunks that have to be dug out, and the concrete viaduct in Ozone Park is shot. Didn't the MTA estimate it would cost $6 - $8 Billion, depending on whether it is a subway or LIRR branch ? I don't see it happening even though the Q53 bus that replaced it is a hell of a lot slower now than when it was originally.
  19. PATH will never get it per se. They will get something much like it, maybe inter-operable like the various EZ-Passes, yet not granting all the discounts to those outside of the area. NICE is obviously holding back until MTA finishes stumbling over their own feet. Suffolk County Tranit - forget it. No photo on a OMNY Senior card, but on file. What is the point then ? Seeing if a cop happens to see a person looking too young using it ? My current PATH Smart card has my photo on it. What's the big deal ?
  20. What does "made available as needed to confirm" mean in practical terms ?
  21. Same place in Ohio MetroNorth and PATH sent all their scrap cars ? Maybe that is now for asbestos issues. LIRR sent their M-1's to both Quebec and Mexico.
  22. So the fare capping is for 7 consecutive days, but only if Day 1 = Monday ?
  23. Did they have alll these security and other fare issues with Oyster in London ?
