  1. I've noticed that. Gross. It's compounded by passengers opening windows as we speed through dank & smelly tunnels. Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  2. And once upon a time wasn't it called Lincoln Road? There's a sign adjacent to the overpass facing Lincoln Road... Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  3. Somebody mentioned speakeasy on buses due to a lack of clever devices (which you can be certain your suburban partners are fully decked with) but why not pre-record and pin? Your speakeasy devices can point with a GPS right? How else can you be tracked? Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  4. Really? They age gracefully. And subway cars are built to take beatings, but customer abuse will indeed force those R68A's to an early grave at the bottom of the ocean. I'm not concerned as much about age as I'm about care. Those stickers blissfully wasted on the Midtown Shuttle would breathe some aesthetic life into those cars. I'm aware they were bought metallized to discourage graffiti but ironically still have scratchiti. Decals are cheaper then a buff job. Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk It's been a while since I entered Spring Valley. They must've finally replaced the crustbuckets with those Kelly Green beauties... Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  5. Bee-Line buses are older. Management supersedes age. If Rockland can keep crustbuckets like that on the road, it means more then age. Just a touch of love... Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  6. Yes I do. But if the mop water's just right, it feels even better on an R68A @ 95th Street . Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk I feel bad for whoever has to mop at Queensboro Plaza. It's a mess in the worst possible way right now... Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  7. Rawr. Those look sleek. [emoji15] ????Eric Shields | Mass Transit Honchkrow???? Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  8. I figured that'd be an issue. Why not skip stop Jamaica style. You already unintentionally do so with the in Manhattan and you did it twice or more with the last week. Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  9. Great suggestions. They sound familiar. I never understood why the has three endpoints. Thought the B41 was confusing enough. Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk Have the skip 80th, 88th Streets and only stop at Rockaway Blvd before diving into the Bay. Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  10. I should've known. You recall my comment about speed cameras & deer whistles? Deer whistles operate outside the range of human hearing and be set up to recognize a couple hundred tones. You could assign per train, per scenario, per error or dispatch type. The speed cams can paint a sonar type picture of trains viewable from any supervisory tower? You guys have a lot of underutilized technology and it's simply wasteful not to squeeze everything into what you have. Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk Don't be Japan. Don't be Chicago or Zurich. Be yourselves. Be New York. Be imaginative. Not like MTA standards are anything to honestly endorse. That's why they left that association. Half a million doesn't even dent seven of your salaries or annual incomes. They need to protect NYC residents not their egos. Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  11. The 7 line is part of what was the IRT. Why isn't its countdown clicks formatted like lines 1-6? Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  12. Long time? During #Blizzard2016 trains were parallel parked all over the place. Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  13. Wouldn't be the first time. For a while I was hearing uptown announcements on the downtown platform at 168th St - Bway. They mistook trash carriers for service trains & the for a non service train. Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  14. That's another one. I was at 42nd St - PABT and an train that was crowded at 2 AM (yes, 2 AM!) was idling at the local track. I noticed headlights at the last car and said (well, mouthed bevause the noisy trash carrier was on the EXP track) to the conductor "Another train on your tail". She looked bewildered and then proceeded to close the doors and haul out. Is this a sign that existing signal systems are deteriorating? BTW do you guys think CBTC is worth it? I was thinking of a system with speed cameras and deer whistles. I'll go into detail if asked. I don't feel like tying volumes as much. It is Friday. Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  15. I didn't word it that way, but I think I meant the same thing. I know that already (much like the operating via the or "West End"). That's why I used the term speed dial. Routes are programmed in entirety. I never once thought they were programmed on a modular basis. That's painstaking. Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  16. Last week there was a situation where trains were redirected via the to 137th St - City College due to an investigation at Central Park North - 110th St. trains were discharging at 96th St - Bway. But if I remember, all trains have the toolset to display any set combo of train info. Since the is rerouted via the so much, they probably have that on speed dial. Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  17. Gosh. If I make a mistake and admit it, I still seem to get grilled for being inaccurate. I feel it's better to be transparent than to continue grinding against veteran users. I iterated that to agree that my info was inaccurate. If I make a mistake and acknowledge it, please don't rub it in. I know I made them. Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  18. I know that. Those two cars don't exist yet. They were one of the new sets that were supposed to employ gangway doors in at least one set. Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk Work cars have their own contract #? #TheMoreYouKnow???? BTW isn't it ironic that the cars that carry trash cause the most air pollution? Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  19. I think that's a sign that more trains are being repaired than can be in service. There's only about 6K of subway cars. And NYC transit transports millions of people every day. There's an impending breaking point in all of this... The delay of the capital plan has put the R193 & R211 orders on the holding block... Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk Sometimes cars get hotter if the windows are opened. Forced air convection causes the AC to be counterproductive. Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  20. I noticed a sealed set of stairs while I was waiting on the BMT portion. It looks shut up, but that lock looks like it can be breached easily. I was walking toward a poorly lit section of the station's BMT portion and something just felt awful, like deteriorating plaster mixed with septic waste. If it was something you did in the 90s, it may be left there too. A similar scenario exists at Essex Street's BMT platform. I believe the once looped infinitely as the Broadway-Nasssau Shuttle, according to a 1958 render of a subway map I've modified with switch bearings. Sent from my m8 using Tapatalk
  21. Yeah but the & are nowhere near that station. If I remember, the was deligitimized by the 2010 budget cuts to the MTA. "Retired" is too lax a term. You might be right. The stickers put over these budget cuts are as bad as tending to gashes with a band-aid. Wounds still show, if that's what you mean by "still there." Sent from my HTC M8 GPE ???? 23. AS A MODERATOR REQUESTED, I HAVE RELOCATED THIS POST TO A MORE APPROPRIATE THREAD. NAVIGATING USING TAPATALK IS STILL NOT EASY FOR ME. Thanks for pointing me the right way. A sick customer held up another train ahead of us for over 15 minutes and they even refused to eject us at the above station, displacing those who intended to Xfer to the or Gramercy Park above. Sick customers seem to dominate the manifest of preventable delay symptoms, and largely the rider exhibits poor judgment until it compromises their health more severely, which also compromises commutes. The position of our train made us incapable of being rerouted to the EXP track like the several trains behind us were. I suggested jokingly we dock to the disabled train like a space station to provide egress to distressed customers, and when they heard that they were not able to disembark, some became livid. Of course, I needed to Xfer to the or , so I left the Astor Place station and walked behind Walgreen's to the entrance of nearby 8th Street - NYU ® station [DOWNTOWN & BKLYN]. I made it to Pacific Street by 3:15 PM. Having an unlimited may be costly, but you can add ingenuity to your commute when you need it most. Sent from my HTC M8 GPE ???? Mass Transit Honchkrow ???? 24. Spot on. The lack of self awareness of one's commute will stall trains no matter how much tech is invested. Riders must remember they're riding PUBLIC transit. If they want to be selfish they can get a car. Sent from my HTC M8 GPE ???? Mass Transit Honchkrow ????
