Thanks am I wrong in thinking that would make the t/o job easier ?

Not really. Its an extra thing for the T/O to do. Its basically there for you to keep the C/R in check and make sure they open on the right side. However it works the other way too. If you enable the wrong side and you get a C/R that is in dur dur land and opens on the wrong side too then you both go down.

Does anyone know if for medical we need to get there a lot earlier then the appointment time. Not sure what to expect this time around.

You want to get there earlier. Everyone there for medical will have the same report time. There is a lot of tests to go through. Hearing,EKG,Vision, blood pressure, urinalysis. Just like pre employment. First in first out.

Let's see what they learn from this order moving forward.

Both divisions will be desperate for more equipment within the next 5 year window.   SMEE trains in both divisions are closing in on 40 years old.  Hopefully the next delivery will be that of a more durable product.

It's not always good to go for the lowest bidder? Lol. I'm still sniffing around in the yards asking RCI's. The strongest one is they will def be back before the year is out. When the F comes off a supplement schedule the 160's on the A will have to return pretty much putting a deadline on the 179's return.

Received a letter today for my 2nd P/E on the 26th. Ugh, practically no advance notice. Anyways, is there anything different the 2nd time in? Especially, do I have to fill out this damn packet AGAIN? lol

If its been more then 60 days since your last P/E then yes. But they probably still have your old form on file and you can ask for it so you can just transfer all the information over.

Ok, I'm still waiting to be fingerprinted, but I passed my medical and have been sworn in for the 8/19 class!I

I've been told there is no class past August so any idea in my head to defer and take a vacation was out the window.

With the restructure taking place the admins keep saying possible front line cuts but the union won't let it happen, not unusual response for the MTA to start cooling down hiring.

Lol nah man, I’ve posted with some Extra Extra people during road posting. By the time they’re out posting, my probation will be over and I may run into them - who knows.

Ain’t no pick job here, here’s hoping I can snag a sweet temp job through the bid next pick.

    Out of 207 yard right?

my entire class passed the road test. Final tomorrow and we off to BBQ on thurs

Had a R46 with bad dynamic brakes but I adjusted my operation and rookie rolled all my stops. Better than sliding out of stations amirite?

So long as you passed, do what you gotta do, when I operate any smee I'm rolling up while releasing then release to a slow roll, then full service to the marker. But congrats!

Hi everyone, I was hoping someone can provide me some insight, after you work your first year, your probationary year, you can leave the job as T/O and then come back to it at a later time? Where can I find out more info about this? TIA !

That only if you promote and decide the promotion is not for you. You can return to T/O for up to 1 year after the promotion then its permenant

Yea i called but the actual printout comes from a 3rd party. All the hospital can do is send them the request. Either way they said it was scheduled to be mailed out early this week so hopefully it's here by Friday.

I'm rooting for you man, I was put on medical hold myself and it bumped me back 3 months...it sucks

    Hi LirrMedford

Which division are you ? Curious as to which would generally be better commute for someone taking the LIRR ?

I chose the B division. They tell you B mostly has report locations in queens/brooklyn while A is mostly Bronx/Manhattan. If you luck out enough times you can get a job out of the queens division. Jamaica Center on the E,J. 71st Continental on the R,M. 179th on the F. Jamaica Yard  or ENY yard.

Lmao shit I'm 35 years old, 200lbs by myself would probably send me to the ER. My football days are 20 years behind me!

33 years old here. Was semi pro 6 years ago. Lifting it up to the coupler is no joke. And you have to hold it up for a few seconds yourself while your partner bolts it on. Its def a task in itself

The superintendent had mentioned that in the first week it was a pass/fail to climb aboard the train and to lift a 200 lb coupler adapter. I would think it's safe to assume that we get to practice and familiarize ourself beforehand right? Thanks. In the meantime, I am starting to dead lift weights for the time being.

I'm 11XX and been through the piss test twice now. I'm guessing if 10XX have been called up for the July class right now, then I'll be getting to the medical in time for the fall it seems.

Yes and no. They take you to Stillwell yard and have you climb onto a train. If you can't and your in B division they could put you into the A division and have you try in an A division yard. If your in A division and can't climb hey , you wait as well. They say its easier to climb on A division trains. And the coupler we didn't do until about 4 weeks into class. They also show you how to step over rails and walk the tracks.

signals is 100 but its not as nervewracking as it sounds, per whats been said by others here--you get a chance to save yourself even if you get something wrong on paper, but can explain the signal when asked.

Practicals I don believe are 100, but 80 if I recall what vargas said.. I think youre referring to the final road practical--and I recall being told you get second chances with the practicals. And I have a strong memory, so I believe I can do it.

You get small 20 question quiz's through out school car those are 80% or better if you get below that you get marked and have to talk to a superintendent. Most likely just a talk and review and your back to learning. A second one below 80% they are liable to let you go. Midterm and final is 80% or better or get the boot. You have 2 signal tests one about 1/3 through at the simulator, and one about 2/3 through at the school. First one is 15 multiple choice and 10 write outs. Second one is all write outs. Easier then you think but you do have to know your signals.(A bit of advice, stick you the definitions you are taught, and no matter what anyone tells you stick to that. Don't write more then what your taught cause you could be opening more avenues for them to exploit you). If you get any wrong you are called in to the Managers office where you will have a chance to redeem yourself. So long as you can explain your good. If you can't and they feel you have no clue, you gets the boot. You have 2 yard practicals. 1 for Prep for yard movement, another Prep for service/Brake Pipe Rupture. Those are pass/fail. If you mess up during it and realize the mistake and go back and fix it they will cut you some slack cause you recognized the problem and troubleshooted it. They like it when you can troubleshoot. If you don't and they have time the TSS giving your yard practicals will give you a small tutoring session at the end of the day to help point out what went wrong and prep you for your make up. Yes make up. You will be scheduled to do the practical again if you fail. You will be scheduled at the Superintendents discretion since you will be doing the Yard practical retest with them. You have 1 road practical at the very end. It can be you making anywhere form 7 to as many as 15 station stops depending on how the person giving the practical feels about your station stops. It could be the Manager a superintendent or a TSS giving the road practical. By this time you would have made thousands of stops with different equipment across your entire division A or B. You should be able to hit them all. This one is pass/fail with no second chance if you fail. You stop way to short or you blow out a station your toast. I'm currently 6 months in today was in the 12/16/19 class and started  road posting(training in passenger service) this past Monday. I have come up short some and overshot a foot or so but so long as your in the area you can smooth it out. Hey its only my first week lol. Most  of they yard stuff and signals looks and sounds hard to begin with but once you start doing it repetitively it really does stick.  Hope I helped!

Has anybody ever talked to the guy named Kevin who answers the phone sometimes... he helps and is always straight forward and he talks very fast

Kevin is the guy at the front desk when you get your ticket when you first go into PE. He's the guy on the left. He is def very informative and tries to help out with every single question.

We actually had somebody from the front office answering questions. Delayed the process a bit because he was cool enough to answer every question asked.

One thing I heard that is weird is some lady (I assume Ms Vargas but idk what she looks like) said we might not get to pick for 2 and a half years and might not get weekends off for 10 years lol. I hope this is just a gross exaggeration.

Its not an exaggeration lol. I'm still in schoolcar from the december class but the most recent picks just happened. And jobs that don't have weekends go quick. So 10 years  yeah. And as far as a pick for 2 and a half years, that's true too. And even 2 1/2 years in you might not get  a great pick. Mostly late PM, mid nights and a lot of weekends. What you can do though is for those first 2 1/2 3 years is keep your eye on the open job list. You can bid on those jobs and if no one with higher seniority bids on the jobs you do then its yours. Granted most likely it will be once again late PM, Mid Nights, and weekends and mostly temps jobs that won't last for to long , but It can provide a consistent regular schedule for you for a little while instead of random jobs at random times as XX or X. I know that's my plan as soon as I'm out of schoolcar. Gunning for a bid job. I am actually fine being up for mid nights, so hopefully can pull a job on my favorite line since a kid :P
