    SUBWAY - Random Thoughts Topic

Anyone know why on the commemorative Second Ave Subway map there is an entry in the key for "Line out of service"? I can't find any location on the map that is shown as out of service...

JFK and a one seat ride.

Additionally, Metro-North uses an under-contacting 3rd rail whereas LIRR and NYCT use over contacting. Thus the power distribution system for one or more of the systems would have to be overhauled to allow interchange of vehicles (not even considering actual power supplied). I don't have any better ideas though...

    Hello from Illinois

I'm new to the forums and just wanted to say hello! I've enjoyed railroads and rail transit since I was young, so much that I went to school specifically for railway engineering, specializing in rail infrastructure. I currently live in central Illinois (far from any rail transit unfortunately) but grew up along the New Haven line in NY, which helped direct my interests towards electric railroads. I've been lurking on these forums for a few months now and finally decided to make an account. As I mentioned earlier my knowledge is in infrastructure, so some of the operations stuff is over my head (but still interesting!). Cheers!
