  1. Thanks for the heads up! I have one of first 5 picks in my class so I'll take your word on it.
  2. I'm in the Nov. 27th class. We're doing a double shift tomorrow from 7am - 11pm for fire & evac training and vac? training....I'm hoping to be go to a gang on the L or J/M lines. Do any of you seasoned gerryswingers have any recommendations on whether I should avoid these gangs for any reason?
  3. Volchik696, don't lose hope. The job/training so far is great compared to the agency at 180 Livingston. That's considered "management." They are a completely separate entity than the actual job itself. You don't have to see them once you are hired. Only when you have to do some sort of paperwork When you get hired. Just be a little more patient. There is a guy in my class (list #4xx) who should have been hired last year. We all have to deal with that shithole aka 180 Livingston.
  4. Our TWU local 100 seems to have a great sense of comradery. They answer any question you throw at them so thats a good thing. See the rest of you tomorrow for 1st day of training!
  5. Great explanation guys. Young, thanks for asking the important questions that we sometimes forget to ask. My orientation is tomorrow morning. I hope to apply this new knowledge during these first couple of weeks!
  6. Wow thanks for the heads up Steve. I definitely will ask lots of questions and be alert down there. Have they offered you day shifts yet since you've started working? Just curious to know...
  7. Thanks for the info Ebenz. I have friends who are bus operators and I believe they get an annual allowance for their uniform but I guess Track dept. is different since they give out the uniform at orientation.
  8. For those who have already finished their first week of training, are we given a uniform allowance during that first week?
  9. At least I know I have plenty of time to get a CDL before any picks are given. Thanks G13
  10. For those who are already Track Workers, which specialist jobs do most new hires pick? Are the jobs requiring a CDL less likely to be chosen by new hires?
  11. From what I understand, it is when you choose your work location, possibly work time (days or nights), and your specialist aka dual rate title. For those already on the job: If I didn't explain this right, please correct me.
  12. As long as you have your orientation date to start, don't worry about a thing. I'll be in this Nov. 27th class too. I'm hoping my high list # will get me the highest seniority for the mini pick.
  13. Thats exactly what happened Slim. They lost my info sometime between Charlie Moran and Ruby Robinson having control of the Track worker title. Another thing I found out from DCAS was that Mta sent the list back to DCAS the samd day I went in to clear my medical hold. Bad timing and agency negligence pushed me 2 months back.
  14. As far as those concerned with the money order. There is a check cashing place on Willoughby St., between Jay St. and Pearl St.. About 2 and half blocks away from 180 Livingston. You can get your money order there in 30 mins or less and return to complete final processing. Just make sure you let the staff know you are stepping out if you do for whatever reason.
  15. For those who need an extra email to reach a staff member at Livingston: Emma Marie Rivera (manager of employment operations and EVP/human resources) 347-643-8523 Emma.Rivera@nyct.com After I was hung up on by Ms. Robinson twice, told to take another medical although mine hadn't expired yet, and left with unanswered questions, this is the lady who helped me get through the hiring process. But DO NOT expect any responses through e-mail from any of their staff. Some do and some don't e-mail you back.
  16. Here's an update on my situation. I am officially in the Nov. 27th class coming up. List #131X. I was sworn in on Halloween day, 10/31/17. It's been a journey with this hiring process. This agency is a mix of hard-working and not so hard working people who are mostly unhappy during the early hours of the day. I learned that most do not take lunch breaks while others take more time than they should. Either way we shouldn't be at fault for the errors that are made on behalf of their staff who work in highly stressful environment. So for those who are waiting for their medical, do not wait more than 2 weeks for a response. Go to 180 Livingston if you can because these people, including the doctors/physicians, have made errors on my medical, sent late letters to some of us, lost my paperwork and made me wait 6-7 hours for nothing. On top of everything, their communication among themselves is their biggest flaw. One person tells me I need to take another medical even though mine doesn't expire until another 3 weeks. And then I receive phone calls asking me if I still want the job a day after I finish taking the drug test. Their computer programs also have cause "screen" errors (not sure what that is). Had the doctors not misdiagnosed my ekg, I would have been in the 09/11/17 class. Basically, do not wait longer than 2 weeks for an email. CALL CALL CALL!!! For those waiting for medical, schedule a visit with your personal doctor to take the hearing, vision, ekg, and spirometer tests with them and maybe you won't have to take those tests with mta at all. This is what my timeline of the hiring process looked like: 08/02/17 - first lab 08/18/17 - first medical 09/22/17 - cleared medical hold 10/17/17 - 2nd lab 10/31/17 - sworn in 11/27/17 - start date.
  17. Thanks Young. I definitely will keep posting updates when I can
  18. I went in today and arrived a little late at 10am. Tbh, I should have arrived in a little later since one of the staff members at the pre-employment counter ran into an error with opening an existing "screen" for me and completely forgot to call my name. I visited the counter at 2pm and they told me "we're not up to your name yet." After 3pm the gentleman asked if anyone is here for "lab" and I started lab around 3:30 after they fixed the "screen" error. I finished my lab around 4:45pm and was told again to wait for the email for medical. I got home around 5:20pm and guess what shows up in my mailbox?! The pre-employment letter that Ms. Robinson told me was sent out on Oct. 4th to show up on the 9th. The postage stamp reads Oct. 5th so I can't debate the date it was stamped. plus I live in Brooklyn as well so I don't suppose the distance from the sender to recipient could be the cause of late mail. I do feel for the ppl working the counter at 180 livingston because they deal with many ppl everyday. So make sure you go to that counter to ask questions like I did to avoid any complications. In my case, it didn't even matter, i was the last one waiting for lab.
  19. I will update you all tomorrow on my status when I go for my 2nd drug test.
  20. I just spoke with Ms. robinson at 10am exactly. Been calling since 9am and finally got through. Not the most polite person in my humble opinion. She claims to have sent me a letter to come in for drug testing Oct. 4th and I never received it. I'm calling it bs right off the bat. They labeled me a "no show." Tbh, more than one person isn't doing their job correctly down at Livingston. First I was told I would receive an e-mail by a lady on the phone with Ms. Robinson.....no e-mail after a week and a half of waiting. She told me to go down for a drug test tomorrow. Hope my experience can be of use to others still going through the process
  21. Yes. I took the 2nd part of the processing. When you finish it, they give you a white slip which you would then bring to counter 3 to complete the whole process. At least thats what I had experienced. I would assume that those who passed medical have also received that slip
  22. I popped into 180 Livingston today today to ask if they can re-issue or re-print a copy of the medical slip I received on sept. 22. I had misplaced mine and unfortunately haven't found it yet. I rarely misplace/lose anything so important. The young snobby lady tells me that they do not re-print/re-issue those slips and then she questioned me about my past medical before she phones Mrs. Robinson on the spot to verify my list# and status. I have a feeling that I was not on their list yet even though my name was restored. She then told me that Mrs. Robinson will send me an email to come in again. Has anyone lost/misplaced their white medical slip and been given any problems preceding forward? More importantly, can someone give me the email address for Mrs. Robinson?
  23. It helps. Thanks Volchik. On another note, I just received a letter from DCAS saying that my name was "restored to its original standing on the list." I'm a little confused about what it says at the bottom of the letter for my reason for being off the list. It reads as follows: "You were previously offside for: Failed to report for medical These are now reversed." I was on a medical hold after my first and only medical. I didn't fail to report for medical. I'm glad my name was restored but has anyone received a similar letter from DCAS after restoring your name at 1 Centre St.?
  24. Ebenz, let us know when as soon as you receive the e-mail to go in for medical. As i will relay my date to come in as well
  25. Volchik696, is this the first letter you will be receiving for pre-employment process?
