  1. Do you happen to know if cleaners are required to operate heavy machinery? I also heard that they are sometimes required to move buses when assigned to bus depots. Do you know if any of that happens to be correct?
  2. I found it a bit strange also. Like you, I thought the only thing needed to be a cleaner was a high school diploma, which I have and wrote down on the application they gave me when I went to Livingston street. Though they never asked to see my actual high school diploma, which I brought with me when I went down there both times. Perhaps I should have shown it to them, even though it was clearly stated on my application that I graduated high school, but no one at the desk asked for it. I thought there would have been a more formal sit down after I did my medical exam, but I did not even get the chance to come in for a medical. I am very surprised that they said I was not chosen to be appointed to the cleaner position based on their review of my qualifications, which could only be from the application that I filled out when I went there. Very strange and frustrating, unless they changed the qualifications that a cleaner needs to have, but I doubt it. It's a shame because I took this test for conductor in 2008, and I really was hoping for the opportunity to get in to the MTA as a cleaner, I really needed it, but no luck. As you said I need to keep trying.
  3. I went in for my second drug test. Two weeks go by and I get a letter in the mail that says after reviewing your qualifications you were not appointed to the cleaner position. They did not interview me, see my resume or look at my 21 page booklet. They must be basing it on the application that I filled out while I was waiting. Are there actually qualifications that they look for just to be a cleaner? It's not hard, you can learn anything you need to know on the job. I am so disgusted with the MTA. Why have me come in a second time and do the entire process again for nothing? They already had the same application with my same experience from the first time I came in. What the heck is their problem?
  4. Yeah I still have not heard anything. Every time I call I get a different answer. Apparently only person handles all of the cleaner jobs and I rarely am able to get her on the phone. When I do, she just says check your email and won't give an actual real answer. I heard that the list I am on expires on the 30th of January. Seems like I am out of luck.
  5. Trying to be hopeful but after my last phone call with them, it's hard to be, given what they told me.
  6. I called many times before I was able to get through to anyone. They keep telling me different things. First they said that there was a hiring freeze on cleaners. Today they told me to once again check my email for something that may never come, which is really frustrating. They also told me that 300 people took the drug test, and to just keep checking my email and to keep calling. As the time approaches when this list expires, it seems that I won't be able to get this cleaner job with the mta. There is no order or process when your just a number on a list. They can easily skip over you without any warning and that's it.
  7. Does the MTA send an email saying if they are not going to hire people after pre employment?
  8. It's been 5 weeks now since I went in for pre employment and drug testing. I still have not been contacted to come in and the last time I called them, they said that I don't have to call anymore. It seems like they are brushing me off and are just going to skip me.
  9. I called them and they said that they reached my list number and that I don't need to call them anymore. They were surprised that I did not get a letter in the mail and then they told me to check my email. There have been no phone calls, emails or letters from the MTA since then. They told me to check my email ever since I went in for pre employement. Does anyone know why they told me not to call anymore? Do they send a letter at this point or an email? Did they tell me not to call anymore because they decided not to hire me?
  10. I called them today and they told me they just hired 200 transit cleaners, but they also told me to keep calling every week to check if there are openings. My drug test is good for 90 days, so hopefully they call me in before then, if not I will do pre employment and drug test again. Not sure if they will still offer it after the current list expires, even though the list is for conductor.
  11. Good question. I would like to know that as well. They said they have immediate vacancies for transit cleaners, so I am surprised that I have not been called in for medical yet. Do they call or send a letter in the mail when to come in for medical? When I was there for pre employment, the people who were there for medical had letters with something yellow on the top of their letters.
  12. I have a very high number. In the 10,000 range. I know my number for conductor will probably not get called by the time this list expires, but I would definitely take the cleaner job if it was offered to me. They said they have vacancies for cleaners, so I hope they call me for medical soon, since my pre employment and drug test are done, and the MRO said to expect a call for medical.
  13. Hi, I took the conductor 8094 exam and I received a letter that the MTA has immediate vacancies for transit cleaners (labor class), and they are offering me the opportunity to be considered for this position. I went in for pre-employment and did my drug test and an MRO marked my drug test as clear after I explained that I am on prescription medication for some anxiety. He said to expect a phone call for me to come in for a medical exam. It has been a week and a half since then and I have not heard back from the MTA for me to come in for a medical exam. Does anyone know how long it takes for the MTA to call to schedule a medical exam? Does anyone have any info on the status of hiring transit cleaners? They said they have immediate vacancies, when I got my letter, but I am wondering if they hired enough people and no longer have anymore openings, which is possibly why I did not hear back from them. Is there anyway to check the status of where the MTA is with hiring transit cleaners by list number? Thanks, SK
