  1. Yeah the Emory ads, saw them on one of the shuttle sets recently. Some of the cars also had the interior wrapped in white as well. Never seen the shuttle ad wrapped before, so that was nice.
  2. The 211 did move again tho in that first image, even tho it remained at a fairly odd angle for quite some time. As for that second image, well i dunno.
  3. Yeah it was part of clearance testing, didn't derail. DJ Hammers mentioned this on his Discord server as well.
  4. Welcome to the forum. And no, Most of us on here don't have frequent dreams (or nightmares especially) of the subway. This is kind of a throwback to this thread created a few years ago. Similar to the first reply on that thread, I will also say seeking help might be advisable. Those recurring nightmares and constant fears about your dreams sound like a deeper problem affecting you specifically. Not sure what it is, I'm no professional at this (as is most of the forum, I'm guessing).
  5. service is suspended between Beach 25 St and Far Rockaway-Mott Av in both directions while NYPD conducts an investigation near Far Rockaway-Mott Av. Alternatives For service to/from Far Rockaway-Mott Av, transfer to/from Q22 buses at Beach 36 St. Follow this link for a map of where Q22 buses stop. LIRR is allowing MetroCard holders and OMNY users to board Far Rockaway Branch trains for no additional charge between Far Rockaway and Penn Station. See schedules on our website. — NYPD swarmed the area around Far Rockaway station earlier. (from what I heard) This incident was the result of someone getting shot at the station.
  6. Train service is extremely limited, if not even suspended, because of heavy rainfall and flooding across the region. We strongly recommend you avoid traveling at this time, if you can. Check http://mta.info before you travel. --- mta.info shows every single subway route underneath "suspended" Ida ain't playing...
  7. trains are delayed and/or rerouted in both directions in Manhattan because of excessive water entering the station at ‌28 St‌. Northbound trains are running express from ‌Chambers St‌ to ‌34 St-Penn Station‌. For service to/from ‌skipped stations, take a southbound train.
  8. From what I read, the brief outage caused the rail communications on the IRT and L to switch to an emergency battery backup. It was intended to operate until either 1. Regular power (Con Ed) came back or 2. MTA's fuel powered generators went online. Regular power did come back but the battery system failed to switch to it, and due to a lack of notice, those fuel generators never went online either. The system continued to use the battery generators until they ran out of juice, which sparked the "outage" so to speak (since the third rail still had power), it's just that dispatchers couldn't see where trains were. I am wondering the same thing
  9. might be the angle of the camera, looks fine to me
  10. Yeah lol, I imagine these trains were in transport to (or at) NJ before that Subchat announcement was made on the 211's. We were all wrong though, seems that the feat has been pulled off! DJ Hammers (and two other channels, Mr. Railfan and ihasbeencensored) apparently caught it. Huge surprise Yesterday DJ Hammers actually mentioned he would be premiering a special delivery at 10:30 on his community tab in Youtube. Perhaps they're doing it to build up hype, seems better to premiere it at 10:30, compared to releasing the video when nobody's awake. Youtube premieres are pretty popular these days and most Youtuber's I watch have done at least one of them. FWIW, They aren't deleted after a while so you can watch them later on if you really need to.
  11. Yeah I saw that tweet earlier. It's like people don't think before they post.
  12. So this is why we got those cameras/CCTV then. What a surprise, MTA sees a freebie option and jumps for it. This is just another lazy half-step towards putting better technology in the cars, to me it ain't much else. Besides that acronym. I'm also at the G-train image the Guse used for this article, looks like Smith/9th before it was renovated. Who gives these reporters such old pics of the system? Lol...
  13. Yup, in a geographical and literal sense, that is entirely true. Long Island runs from the Verrazano to Montauk with all those counties in between. Of course, many associate Long Island with just Nassau and Suffolk, the non NYC part, that's more of a cultural barrier in today's time (and part of what Bob mentioned). My memory is awful usually, but I can safely say I've heard little of Long Island (or most NY politics) throughout school. Certainly has many walking around uneducated of their land. Look at what it has lead to, I knew New Yorkers who didn't even know the 5 boroughs of their own city, madness...
  14. Ridership on the Franklin Av Shuttle is low compared to the rest of the system. And I believe one of the two platforms at the old Franklin Av stop were already disused, before it was renovated. The MTA did consider sacking the line entirely since it was considered decrepit, and incredibly costly to renovate. Many problems persisted too, it had huge amounts of fare-beating at the time which was part of why Dean Street closed. The MTA’s main goal with fixing the line was to cut the waste (including removing unused platforms or extra track) that were not needed, and to remove that awful paper transfer that allowed farebeating between Franklin Av and the Fulton line. I can only guess that all else was noise to the agency.
  15. I just did measurements as well, and I got very similar numbers to that. The going from 42nd St. PABT (through 53rd st. tunnel) to 179th was around a mile longer than the going from 42nd St. PABT (across CPW) to 205th street. Both are terrifyingly long in their own rights, especially if both were to start at Far Rockaway and run local the entire time. If the ever extended the 's IND tracks at Parson's to southern Queens and Springfield gardens/Laurelton. A route between there and Far Rockaway may have been one of the longest possible routings in the subway system period. The and have some of the longest overnight locals in the system, but a fully local between those two destinations would be even longer, and (for train crew) would probably be borderline unbearable.
  16. (saw BM5's post, agree with your first half, unsure about the second half. The route has to be reliant on the ridership going well and that remains to be seen...) And I totally agree with you on that point. For a bus that travels along a niche route (and serves such a niche group of people, yet a relevant group as the agency would argue), it certainly needs better advertisement. This was also something that confused me as well. The yellow paper signage reminds me of what you would see with a subway shuttle route. Especially doesn't help that yesterday (Saturday), subway shuttles were running on the in the Rockaway's, besides the Q22 AND Q98V on some streets. They should've at least mentioned the Q98V on the paper (as well as explain it's purpose on a separate paper at the very least) because I could see how people would confuse it for being a shuttle (with no bus number), or not ride it because they don't know where it goes. The Q98V's signage itself (at least on the NG's) is also a little strange, in some cases, the "Q98V" clashes right beside "EDGEMERE" so it says "Q98VEDGEMERE", never knew vedgemere was a place... confusing stuff. I sure hope they did. The buses were out and running when I saw them yesterday so I presumed the sites were open. Imagine if they weren't lol...
  17. Mass Covid vaccination sites at York and Medgar Evers college opened recently. The buses run in the ZIP's the vaccine sites serve, and basically shuttle people from areas (in this case, with high covid death rates and low car ownership, etc.) to the colleges to vaccinate them. Interesting that you mentioned "what's the point", I didn't see any riders on the Q98V specifically when I saw it today, zilch... carried air. Seems like not many people know about it or use it, at least from what I saw. Granted, the route is new and today's a Saturday when I saw it, so it'll likely have riders during the weekdays, but it's still something I noticed. Telling, especially considering the Q98V ends directly by the projects near Beach 40th st. Wouldn't make much sense for them to go beyond there I guess, since the 113/114 also go to York. Well said, it's as unsurprising as it is a shame that whatever benefits them the most also tends to benefit us the least (in terms of bus cuts and whatnot). This perpetual round of reluctance with some of these routes only seems to welcome more of it, almost to the point of no return.
  18. R179's have, what I can only describe as a grey lip/line, on the very top of the car (just above the route sign). R160's on the other hand do not have this lip, and the black glass stretches over the top edge of the front of the car if that makes any sense. That's usually the easiest way to visually distinguish between the two. The also held that status for a short amount of time (running some combination of 32's, 46's, 160's and 179's at one point). It seems the mixture of fleets across many lines has died down due to CBTC and the retiring of the 42's and 32's. Lack of variety these days is lame and I wasn't around for much of it, but it is what it is. You don't say... If the last 4 replies (including mine) are anything to go by, we care a lot about this crippling agency's rolling stock lol.
  19. Yup, power was just lost near that area. - Southbound and trains are delayed in both directions in Queens while we investigate a temporary loss of third-rail power near 39 Av-Dutch Kills. Posted: 2/19/21 8:55 PM - *Edit* Power was restored there in the southbound direction (according to twitter). Southbound and trains are proceeding after our crews restored third-rail power near 39 Av-Dutch Kills. Continue to expect delays while our crews work to get trains back on schedule.
  20. On desktop, click on your username at the top and click on "Account Settings". On mobile, click ≡ and "Account" to get to "Account Settings" then click on "Settings Area". For both, signatures should be under there...
  21. Not much I presume, this seems like a transitional step in a wider plan to open the whole subway 24/7 again. Can't speak for the actual intent of this overnight change, but those were basically my thoughts as well. A lot of the reopening process in general for COVID has been in phases or done partially with intentions to fully reopen later, as is the nature with a still unpredictable virus. I wasn't anticipating any sudden reopening of overnight service to begin with for those reasons. I do however hope that a full transition back to 24/7 happens soon, since this 2am-4am scheme seems like it won't be practical for anything more than a short amount of time.
  22. Yup, in a car I caught this on the Q53 (and there were another 2 pre-cuomo XD40's at 116 where it terminates). Given how clean the roads were today, it definitely surprised me for sure. And for that reason, I suspect the transit system will lose even more functionality/efficiency in the next 20 or so years. Since when it comes to improving the system, the one thing people (politicians especially) try not to do, is to actually improve it for most riders. Truly is the definition of painting lipstick on a pig.
  23. ME-1 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ME-1_(New_York_City_Subway_car)
  24. Many of those people refuse to pay the fare, shows how much they value the quality of service provided to them, what's new... Also this. The average bus rider IMO feels the effect of changes (riding the buses) far more than when they are described in terms of adding/removing stops, adjusting schedules, etc.
  25. That must have been back when the elevated lines on fifth avenue, fulton street and myrtle used to exist. Subway service across the bridge ended in 1944 but streetcars still used the bridge until 1950, which is surprisingly recent. The bridge probably cannot even handle the steel subway cars used today, especially alongside the traffic besides it. Yeah, cloth masks have become another fashion item, I see them with all types of designs at malls now and some people own several of them for the designs. Really stark contrast from the disposable masks virtually everyone used nearly a year ago. While I prefer my masks plain, a subway mask would be nice to have, and who knows, the may eventually sell it if mask wearing continues.
