That shouldn’t be the case when ATO is in full effect right now but anything can still happen. The more I think about it, the more I realize that I’m having a hard time finding drawbacks with a hypothetical and Swap. The only things that stick out to me are the rise in Operating Costs (considering that the would simply continue on 63rd when the is not running) and the fact that those between Roosevelt and Queens Plaza lose out on a one seat ride to a Court Square transfer and the fact. Either way, the return to full service is a welcoming one (even though the via 53rd was convenient for me personally)

North End of 5th Avenue. The ceiling and Drainage System around there could use a fix. Every time it rains, the ceiling on the North end of 5th Avenue is dripping water.

Can’t speak for everyone in Signals (or MoW for that matter) but I can tell you that calling on Flagging in a CBTC Zone for us to set up our work zone (especially at night and if its full flagging) is usually a pain. I’ve had nights where sometimes I don’t get the first or 2nd call for Flagging until 3 in the Morning. I kinda get why some people jump straight to work but I do agree that it’s Safer to wait until the work zone has been fully set up first.

I see. Part of me assumed that ATO was in full swing for much longer since every time we have to call on flagging, RCC has to inhibit ATO before we can even step foot onto the right of way to set up lights, work (if its Point to Point), etc..

Wasn’t familiar that Culver CBTC was only testing on Weekends but as of February 28th, 2024. ATO has been in effect on QBL

And what does this have to do with the current topic at hand? A GO for a 53rd Street Shutdown after 63rd is complete would require near max capacity on 6th Local and 63rd Street so there’d be no space for the to go to 96th/2nd under this Scenario. While I didn’t address this earlier, unless we have enough equipment to run the on QBL, might as well continue with what already works.

Under that scenario, all of the Equipment that needs to be Serviced can be all knocked out within that week. Lexington, 5th and 7th Avenues can ALL get cleaned up. A shit ton of garbage can be cleaned up from the Right of Way as well…. Its a lot but it can be done.

Its not the biggest loss in the world, and as a QBL Rider, yea it’d be annoying but there’s ways around it.

I mean…. If you want to throw in a GO involving West 4th or Rutgers in order to achieve this then by all means go ahead,

Under a complete Shutdown of 53rd, you might as well do the same GO they’ve been doing for years, Via 63rd Street/6th Avenue Serving Queens Plaza-60th. to Chambers. Its already simple enough

Makes me wonder if there have been any plans made or talked about in the past to address this issue. Would be an interesting read if there is something.

If anything, the R-46’s currently out of Service (for good, I don’t remember all of the numbers off the top of my head but …5550-5553? come to mind and one other set) would be the first to go, but I’m not expecting that for another year or so
