I wonder if Queens Blvd will be fully local during late nights once the (F) is back running all times along 63rd St. If so, then the (D) and (3) would be the only late night express lines.

Only for the time being. Once CBTC work on Queens Blvd (East of Union Turnpike) is finished, then maybe the late night (F) Express will return to normal.

It could be possible with improvements with CBTC but as of right now it's best for them to leave as it is until they can fix the CBTC glitches.

That shouldn’t be the case when ATO is in  full effect right now but anything can still happen.

For those who wish (and i mean wish) for the flip flop not happening because the (M) will be cut back as it is already and just adding more switch movement in the 36th street area just isn't worth the CBTC glitch factor.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that I’m having a hard time finding drawbacks with a hypothetical (F) and (M) Swap. The only things that stick out to me are the rise in Operating Costs (considering that the (F) would simply continue on 63rd when the (M) is not running) and the fact that those between Roosevelt and Queens Plaza lose out on a one seat ride to a Court Square transfer and the fact.

Either way, the return to full service is a welcoming one (even though the (F) via 53rd was convenient for me personally)

5th avenue is closing for station improvements by the way, don’t know what the MTA will be working on there, probably repairs on sections of the station

North End of 5th Avenue. The ceiling and Drainage System around there could use a fix. Every time it rains, the ceiling on the North end of 5th Avenue is dripping water.

One thing I am noticing for several months, each new Metrocard has an expiration date of 1/31/2025, none of them have later expiration dates as was the practice before. I am getting the sense that there may be a non reduced fare switchover to OMNY around that time. Otherwise why are new Metrocards given a 1/31/2025 expiration date when its 2/29/2024. Also Metrocards given out by MTA customer service when filing a claim this month have expiration dates of 9/30/2024 when its usually more than a year as was the practice before.

My pass is good until 3/31/2026

    MOW signal maintainers biggest culprits....

One gang by Roosevelt last year had lanterns out on the roadbed working no work zone set up it was banged in by a (E) train...

The Guy had the gall to get on the radio and tell OCC "oh i sent the helper call you guys to set it up"

Needless to say they was ordered off the tracks and told to call the desk...

Can’t speak for everyone in Signals (or MoW for that matter) but I can tell you that calling on Flagging in a CBTC Zone for us to set up our work zone (especially at night and if its full flagging) is usually a pain. I’ve had nights where sometimes I don’t get the first or 2nd call for Flagging until 3 in the Morning. I kinda get why some people jump straight to work but I do agree that it’s Safer to wait until the work zone has been fully set up first.

Actually it was shut off when the entire network shutdown...

I see. Part of me assumed that ATO was in full swing for much longer since every time we have to call on flagging, RCC has to inhibit ATO before we can even step foot onto the right of way to set up lights, work (if its Point to Point), etc..

Or with 63rd Street open, you do (M) to 96th/2nd.  I would actually consider putting the (G) back on QBL and have the (M) run to 96th/2nd 19/7 at least until the (T) is running because I suspect UES riders would want a 6th Avenue service in addition to the (Q) in what is the one of the most densely populated areas of the entire country where the SAS was LONG overdue when it finally opened in 2017, especially those that work at the hospital on York Avenue that use the 69th Street entrance to the 72nd Street station (and also why when the 63rd Street tunnel was built they should have looked at building a York-1st Avenue station the (F) could have been using now).

And what does this have to do with the current topic at hand? A GO for a 53rd Street Shutdown after 63rd is complete would require near max capacity on 6th Local and 63rd Street so there’d be no space for the (M) to go to 96th/2nd under this Scenario.

While I didn’t address this earlier, unless we have enough equipment to run the (G) on QBL, might as well continue with what already works.

53rd street getting a total shutdown would be, like, a week at best. They are not ripping out the entire tunnel floor like they are for 63rd street, or the work done on the Archer Avenue Line’s two levels a few years ago.

this theoretical project would not be anywhere near the headache some people seem to think it would be

Under that scenario, all of the Equipment that needs to be Serviced can be all knocked out within that week. Lexington, 5th and 7th Avenues can ALL get cleaned up. A shit ton of garbage can be cleaned up from the Right of Way as well…. Its a lot but it can be done.

Too bad you can’t move the (M) to 8 Av via West 4 Switches to 168 St (just so the (M) doesn’t go to Chambers full-time for an extended period of time outside of school-vacation times). Believe it or not, people actually USE the (M) train. In terms of equipment, fewer R160s would be needed for a 168 St-Metro Av service (every 10 minutes due to capacity constraints on CPW, sharing with the (B)(C)) compared to a 71 Av-Metro Av service anyways.

I mean…. If you want to throw in a GO involving West 4th or Rutgers in order to achieve this then by all means go ahead,

I just repeated my last post, but you get my point.

R-211S’s 110-114? Were spotted at Yonkers IIRC

And if I've said it once, I've said it a million times, the C has the 8 car units because 207th can't do 10 car trains in the inspection barn.

Makes me wonder if there have been any plans made or talked about in the past to address this issue. Would be an interesting read if there is something.

  12. If anything, the R-46’s currently out of Service (for good, I don’t remember all of the numbers off the top of my head but …5550-5553? come to mind and one other set) would be the first to go, but I’m not expecting that for another year or so

Where did you hear that? Sounds like more MTA scare tactics. They have been able to fund capital projects without congestion pricing until now.

I wanted to post the actual picture of the letter that came out yesterday however I can’t figure out how to post pictures on this Site from my phone but I uploaded it on Twitter so here it is:

because the 53 St tunnel needs a closure of its own for repairs after being in continuous use by the (E)(F)

The amount of Equipment that needs to be maintained between South of the Plaza to 50th and 8th is…. A lot to put it into perspective. Yesterday morning …or was it the day before?, there was a water condition north of Court Square where water was gushing onto the RoW on D4 Track.

(Also, even though this is more of a Station thing, Lexington, 5th Avenue and 7th Avenue are all nasty atm from continuous use)

R211 Delivery Timeline (In order of date, not car number)

Looking at these numbers I realized that I don't see the following Sets:

    - 4175-4179
    - 4180-4184
    - 4185-4189

Probably still sitting there as of now...

And from the looks of this picture. 4200-4204 looks like its finished and might soon make its way to NYC.

    Bad idea.

AFAIK the Rockaway Park doesn't have higher ridership than the A.

IMO the r179's and the r211's should only go to Rockaway Park during rush hours until a huge majority of the r46's are gone from the A.

The Rockaway Shuttle uses the same fleet as the (A) Line so it doesn’t matter what runs on it as long as the required service levels are met.
