  1. Even if buses are slow, I guarantee you that few people on SI would take a subway into Brooklyn and building anything there would take forever. Taking a subway would be just as painfully slow as the bus/ferry, and Staten Island will always be remote compared to the rest of NYC.
  2. There are several problems with this: The run OPTO 4 car R160s on weekends. R32s would increase labor costs. There is not much demand for central Queens-Midtown service on weekends, and riders can just take the to the , , , or . service on SAS is enough. No need for the , as riders have a cross platform transfer at 63rd, or they can transfer at Herald Sq. A R32 breaking down on 6th will put it in gridlock, and if it does not break down in a station, then in the tunnel the AC will die quickly and the passengers will start to faint. Knowing MTA's terrible evacuation procedures, I wouldn't be surprised if passengers would die. Also, with their declining HVAC units, the R32s will have to be put on outside lines. The is split if sent to 96th, and this is too risky for the cars. Best option they have is the Rock as any breakdowns there will not affect the line that much as they can easily be pushed by another train and relocated to Rockaway Pk Yard. Plus, Rockaway headways are so horrendous that nothing really would change. Overall, this whole R32 and thing makes no sense. The should be fine on SAS, and if a extension is necessary, just send the to 96th with R160s.
  3. My response: The whole to SI shtick is pointless. SI already has buses to St George for the quick ferry, and dragging riders into Brooklyn is a waste. People use the ferry for a reason. Red Hook is underserved, but it would be easier just to have a line branch off Montague and to 4th Av. Most people in Riverdale are wealthy and drive Lincolns to Park Av. Also, MNRR takes 30 mins to get to GCT, and the 1 to TS will take the same amount of time, if not longer. The on Dyre is enough. Dyre is a low-ridership branch and does not need another line. Bayside has LIRR, and they can take that to Woodside for the .
  4. Best options there are is the and Rock . QBL will complain about the R32s and an R32 breaking down on 6th will kill the IND in Manhattan.
  5. The only way to build a practical subway line to SI would be to extend Broadway or Nassau to St. George, and that would be unbelievably expensive. The ferry is the best there is.
  6. No need to put the 32s on the . This is just to get pics of 32s on SAS.
  7. There is no need to put a crew there. The is just not suitable for the R32. R32s will not go up SAS except for museum and work runs as if 6th Av closes, there is no choice but to send them down Broadway, and since 6th is closed, the south side of the bridge will be packed with trains into Manhattan, crippling the Southern Division (minus the ) as well as the regular crowd of s and s.
  8. Probably SMS. If not, it's part of Cuomo's crap agenda which also includes turning Penn into a mall and painting R160s into daycare centers.
  9. It could be because Greenpoint was rebuilt in the same way as Montague.
  10. Assuming that about 100 R32s will be left if the R179s stick to schedule (this is a dream world), I would assign 16 cars to the RPK (3 with a backup at RPK yard), 82 to the (8-car sets), and possibly keep a Phase I set for the NYTM (if not, I would assign it to the RPK shuttle). I would still keep 40 R68s (8-car now) on the , which will lead to a frequency of 15 TPH and increase capacity. Extra 68s can be sent to the and for increased service. RPK R46s could go to the to increase frequency.
  11. They better be. They should have a backup system that can take over during scenarios such as: 1. CBTC failure 2. Work car and intra-division movements 3. During operation of museum trains
  12. As for the CBTC-museum train fiasco, trips usually run weekends, so they can use the express track. As for areas west of Rawson, they can just keep the fixed block signalling infrastructure in place as a back-up if CBTC fails, and if it is kept in sync with CBTC, older trains can operate. They could also just switch off CBTC that day as operators are usually in the cab anyways.
  13. It always seems as if the MTA takes great contractors for smaller projects, like here, but they still go crappy ones with SAS and others.
  14. The would lose its yard, and having trains on different lines at different times of week wouldn't be too great. If I were to restructure QBL, I would do it this way. operates as normal. via 53rd rather than 63rd weekdays only (except late nights), this is to take pressure off the . operates as normal. operates via 63rd now. Weekends and late nights the will take over for 63rd. While some riders find this confusing, they did something like this back before the connector opened, where the would go to Queensbridge on weekends and the on weekdays. If people are too confused still, they can just take the tram or walk to 36th if they can't get that the replaces the outside of weekdays.
  15. I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to hold the Fresh Pond R42s until the L shutdown is complete. They would probably retire 4 sets, keep 1 in storage, and have another as an emergency put-in.
  16. Just a question on the remaining 42s: Do you think they might become better performers if they are sent to CI or Pitkin? ENY seems to favor the 32s, 207 treats their grass better than their cars, and Jamaica decimated their 42s back in the 2000s.
  17. I'll be fine if they die on a quiet line, like the , , or . If the MTA decides to have a ceremonious final run though, it should be on the as that was the line it first ran on.
  18. If sea beach doesn't like it, it is only one set so they can wait for the next train. What I am saying is that some 32s should be put on the or (preferably ) if extra service is needed on those lines.
  19. Send it down to Whitehall or Canal, then flip it to a , or run it light up Broadway to some storage area. If Jamaica is not 100% CBTC ready by the time the R179s have replaced half of the R32s, it would best to put them on the or as the riders aren't like the riders, and the can worry less about the rollsign as it is a flipdot, and no commuter will usually look at the side signs. Plus, I have seen 46s without rollsigns on the , and the MTA once put an R44 on the with a piece of paper with a marker "A" on it as it was missing its rollsign. (this was from some photo on nycsubway.org)
  20. They could put one on the then as an extra during rush hour, that way riders can't complain as much. The would be less effective as Cuomo does not want "rickety old R32s" on his "precious" Second Avenue line.
  21. Do you mean mechanically or as in the riders will go crazy?
  22. Can you also fix the 10:30am to be 10:30pm? (Sorry If I seem too pushy.)
  23. Not to be rude, but you wrote "take to " instead of "take to" on the sign, so can you fix that if possible?
