  1. Yeah he's not going to, it's only so much the union could do but when you're on probation and break crazy rules like that there's legit no shot. Rather pronation or not you shouldn't be allowed to touch a train ever again. We'll see how this plays out on their end.
  2. Yeah exactly I've read the STARS report and everything they die was 100% wrong and then tried blaming a dispatcher... like the dispatcher drove down the stop arm at the home signal and kept it moving, which could of easily killed people. Some people aren't made to have this job sadly.
  3. Idk if you've read what i posted more than once here but they're hiring conductors and train operators between April and August the dates aren't known as of yet. (Hope this doesn't come out rude through text, but no rudeness was implied at all)
  4. I've been wearing caterpillar boots since hired in 2019 ( not the same ones) and I haven't had no complaints at all about them. If you're going to buy your own boots they must be unworn, in the original packaging, must have the receipt for it and it must meet the MTA requirements for them to be used, and you need to have a superintendent sign off on it. A lot of people wear their own authorized boots that aren't on the safgard website just know what you need for you own boots to be authorized, I'd advised talking to a tss at school and ask them about the process.
  5. I'm not exactly sure I was called back in 2021 but from what the union vp said they're apparently hiring 50 people per class btwn April and August, the exact dates of those months I'm not sure of.
  6. Idk if they're still doing it but when I was appointed we had to do a zoom meeting for the 1st day which was orientation, had my camera and mic off unless i was asked to say my name and w.e. But I was playing my ps5 the whole time I wasn't new to transit so w.e the lady was saying wasn't important to me, and like @Jerichosaid it's boring af.
  7. Every t/o should know that it's impossible to key a home signal this t/o decided it was a bright idea to hook down the stop arm and proceed out the station. That person should no longer be allowed to operate the train if you're gonna cause a almost collision with another train, if a train was crossing over that switch there could of been a big accident especially since the brighton line is an elevated line. No excuses for what they did tbh.
  8. There's no way anybody will tell you to key by a home signal, and the t/o should know that you can't key by any home signals. If he doesn't know this then that person doesn't belong operating trains sadly.
  9. No but once you're out you'll be working all holidays unless you're lucky enough for your rdos to fall on a holiday.
  10. According to the VP there's going to be classes between April and August with 50 people per class.
  11. A question only the people at 2 Broadway can answer 🤷🏻‍♂️
  12. Yeah happened to me as a c/r got forced into the A and then as a t/o got forced into the B.
  13. The A division is mostly the bronx but you have queens aka main street and by Brooklyn New lots and Flatbush and Utica. The B division is Brooklyn aka stillwell, brighton and the bronx and queens. The A division is all numbered trains and the B is all lettered trains. The B division is more vast while the A is much smaller.
  14. You get tossed around as being extra extra throughout the division you're in, there's employee parking at yards most you'll need a permit and some you need a sticker like at 207th street yard due to construction of a new tower at this time. I wouldn't advise on putting your vest in the window the MTA has released a notice stating not to do so that you'll still liable to pay meters and etc, and they have people taking pictures of license plates and MTA workers with their vest on the dashboard and then the MTA will take action, what action I don't know because I always pay the meter. The avg time can be 1 to 4 years depending on how many people retire or get promoted I got to pick within a year and some change as a t/o but never got to pick as a c/r and i was there for around the same amount of time. You can also bid on jobs 2 bids come out per pick and you might get to get a job if you didn't pick or don't like your pick. And yes there's breaks between trips these vary in the amount of time per job, but you'll have time to use the restroom unless they try pushing you right out once you get to the other terminal but then let them know you have to go the bathroom and they can't deny you that.
  15. Quick heads up guys and girls this was posted by the union VP "Quick Information #1. Current staffing numbers for all 3 titles We currently have deficits in all 3 titles: -180+ Train Operators and Conductors -40 Tower Operators. These numbers are subject to change due to attrition and promotion. #2. Projected promotion classes/new hire classes -April, May and July Conductor Classes 50-60 per class -April-August Train Operator Classes 50 per class"

  17. Yeah no that's not gonna happen they'll try sometimes to put you close to home but when you come out you'll be extra extra and you'll be sent all over the 4 boroughs. And also it depends on which division you get put into or pick.
  18. Work hours vary depending on the job they give you there's no mandatory over time but jobs can be more than 8 hours which will he a penalty job. You can work your days off if there's job available for some extra OT and money.
  19. 3 points of contact climbing the train, and once you're in a class you can fail you have to pass the midterm and final exam with 80% and also you have practicals that are either pass or fail if you fail a practical you take it again with a superintendent. The only one you don't get a retry on is the final road practical which either you pass or get the boot sadly. The road exam is the very last exam you must pass. It's not hard if you put in the work tbh.
  20. We all gotta climb the trains lol some people didn't make it because they couldn't climb the train at coney Island yard they have us climb on the R68 sometimes people who are vertically challenged find it harder to reach, but it's something that you must be able to do in case you have the to climb down the tracks as a conductor. Us t/os have to climb down to the tracks a lot when it comes to lay ups and put ins.
  21. I was only a conductor for a year and some change before I went to t/o but the schedules for me worked out fine they handed us a wish list on the tour and days off we wanted(which is just a wish list) but I picked PMs with weekdays off and got weekends and then got changed to Friday and Saturday off. So far I'm feeling great as a t/o I got to pick within the first year and a half a job which is sometimes unheard of as a t/o since we move up slower than c/rs do. In the beginning before you pick you'll have to real with the crew office assigning you jobs until you either pick or a job or win something off the bid sheets. The crew office can change your tour and days off on a week to week basis. While speaking of both titles they didn't mess with me much and kept my tours and days off the same week by week. This job is great to be honest with you but it all depends if your drive to crawl before you walk is strong. It starts off annoying and hard but as time goes on it gets better year by year. I've been with transit for 4 years total so far and yes I've complained before but at the end of the day the job helped me afford by 1st apartment alone back in 2021 and my own first car back in 2022.
  22. Good afternoon everyone if anybody has questions in regards to this exam I might be able to help a few, I was hired off this exam back in 2019 and got promoted off exam 7604 to train operator. Have almost 4 years here not much but I might be able to answer questions people might have.
  23. Got to agree its easier coming in through a promotional I got hired for conductor in 2019 and then got callled for train operator in 2021 and the transition was easier and way faster. I already had my foot in the door that person definitely should of taken the cleaner title and then wait.
  24. To be quite honest being since being able to pick within a year, I miss extra extra in terms of money. Being extra extra you make a lot more money than you during your first time picking. So anybody complaining about extra extra be happy with the money you make now trust me. I still love the job you just will make less when it's your first time picking, now im just speaking from my own experience only. MTA is a good career it just depends on what you make of it. I was able to get my own apartment, my own car and still live comfortably alone.
