Hey Moussaberte , Have you started school yet ? If so , how long is the school and where are the classes located ? Did you or anyone else get drafted for Signal Maintainer Trainee ? Do they ask or allow you guys to pick which division ( Power , Telephone, Elevator & Escalator , etc ) you will be assigned to ? Any info would be greatly appreciated ,Thanks .
School is like a month I finished school in January the classes are at the signal school of you get drafted for signal maintainer trainee you should be happy because then your being trained to be a mantiner qnd not a helper just dont fail the school or else your out. No we dont choose it depends on where they need people at.

Took my oral communication safety test for Electrical Helper #8606 on 3/25/18.. Pretty easy test, took about 20 minutes. I really think I passed the test but after the test nobody told me anything. Did anyone else take this safety test? Does anyone know what happens next? Or how long the process takes?
Yeah I took the test took me about 1 month to be called for a drug test and some more time after for final processing

even if you take this other exam in July you will be hired as provisional, the education and experience is the same thing as you taking the exam "multiple choice" both you get a list # when established, if I was you I would take this signal maintainer exam that is currently out now and work as a helper in the mean time ..look at provisional as probation time that's all, I hardly heard of MTA laying off people
Yea I'm going to apply for the signal mantiner exam I think you do it over mail and I know it might be the same but according to some guys they are guys that have been provisinal for years because they haven't took a test so that' where I'm like damn let me just be sure

hey guys, I applied for exam 8606 transit electrical helper in OCT 2017 and received a letter today for the same thing, the application was based on experience and education where there was no exam giving, is this job safe to proceed ? its for a "provisional" position and I am currently working at in my job for over 10 years now so its hard to make the move for a "provisional"
Moussaberte, why take the exam again if your already in?
Well because I'm hired provisonalyand even thoughwe were told that once the list gets approved by dcas we will become permenate I don' wanna take that risk and I'll rather take an actual exam in case they want to lay people off that way I'll be on another exam list

Hey. I know this topic has been dead for some time but I assume some of you may have been hired. I took Exam 4607 and deferred two times and now am thinking of taking the position. It is for Electrical Helper Signals 01-F (I believe that’s the correct title). I held off on the class starting this coming Monday the 19th since there is another in April.
I have some questions that if you guys could answer or give your opinion, I’d really appreciate it.
The starting pay on this job is $21.40 something. It goes into effect on the 16th. I currently make $25 an hour with a raise due in April at my commercial electrician job. My biggest concern is the paycut and not being able to pay the rent and bills. Its been weighing on my quite heavy. I know the benefits and 401k are a no brainer, but I’m more worried about the now. I’ve looked on the seethroughny site to see the salaries of this position and the numbers are mind blowing. Top guy pulled in 100k at $22 p/h.
Is the overtime there for the taking? Also, I assume like everyone else, nobody really wants to be working 60 or 80 hours a week and neither do I. How much of your paycheck comes out for health ins., and other benefits? I guess I’m just looking for an inside perspective to help put my worries aside. Lastly, new hires, should I expect to work at night or does everyone start off with a 7-9am start once training is over? I thank you in advance for your answers.
You took a test? It wasent just your resume and experience?

Flagging was moved to next week, doing some other classes this week. so far we were paid once. getting our 2nd check this thursday, I can already see online that I'll get 1k clean, after all taxes, including 5% to 401k (we only worked 72 hours past 2 weeks cause of a holiday) ... direct deposit kicks in after several pay periods.
The only notable thing is that someone was already called in for a random, so kids, don't do drugs (or even drink heavy a day before work).
How' flagging man?

Flagging in general isn't hard at all. If you passed the Trackworker exam, this is just another common sense test. Passing is 100%, you must get the questions all correct on the written exam. You'll see when you get to flagging school, the instructors go over everything enough as to where you should get 100% without even second thinking a question.
Oh alright thanks and I wouldent know about the trackworkers exam I got hired for electrical helper

Another piece of advice:
PAY ATTENTION IN THE FLAGGING CLASSES!!!!!If your flags are set up improperly, YOU CAN DIE.
How is the class how hard is the test? Can you be kicked out if you fail?

We take some test but they dont matter
The instructor said the only test that matter is the one u take at flagging school
He said that u have 2 pass that test or u have to do the class over
Because u cant work without having ur flaggibg certification
Did he menion what you do and what the test is about or if you could be kicked out for failing?
