  1. Some guys do. You have to fill out some paperwork and it has to be approved by HR I believe but yeah it's possible.
  2. That was always the rule it just wasn't enforced and they let new hires bid after 3 months but they stopped it. They want all new hires in their hired position for atleast a year unless you get bumped. Definitely have some openings at GCT.
  3. Congratulations and what job? When you first start you get placed wherever there is an opening you don't get to choose.
  4. Yes they will test you, and the timing depends it could be days, weeks, months there is no concrete timeline.
  5. Could be months if your lucky. Stop smoking now.
  6. Yeah any boots are good as long as they have a defined heel and not flat.
  7. Starting pay is now 24.13 for regular terminal appearance and 25.35 for operator. So top pay is 34.46 and 36.22. They took 3 jobs off the weekly bulletin could be one of the jobs they hired you on One was overnight, the other an extra job which means you could work split shifts ( 1 day in the am, 2 days in the afternoon, and 2 days at night ect...) And the other job I couldn't find maybe a 3-11?
  8. Check out red wing and try some of the different types that they have, walking on the marble in grand central does take a while to get used to lol.
  9. For grand central alone we have about 6 open spots. Even if it gets filled people always move on and get different jobs so there's always openings.
  10. Good luck. It's usually a 3 to 2 person panel interview, they'll ask you questions sometimes scenario based. Just give them your best answer you'll be fine.
  11. Could be days, weeks, months, depends on the needs. I interviewed March and my medical wasn't till August. This was back in 2019 when I got hired so I don't know if they sped the process up or not.
  12. Basic stuff. All the answers you need are in the test booklet you get.
  13. If you already did all that then your next steps should be physical exam/drug test/ criminal background check.
  14. Railroad retirement is one of the biggest reasons I believe, we don't pay into social security we pay into railroad retiremet see here www.rrb.gov Here are some averages, Average social security benefit monthly in 2022 - $1,666 Average railroad retirement benefit monthly in 2020 (couldn't find an updated #) - $2985 Also if your married your spouse will get half of what your getting from railroad retirement also just for being married to you minimum 10 years, so your spouse would get $1492 just for being married to you. This is all ontop of your MTA pension and start collecting at 62.
  15. Negotiations aren't happening till next year July I believe, we'll see what happens. Congratulations hope everything goes smooth and you get a start date soon
  16. That's just your orientation or safety training day right?
  17. Urine sample takes a day or two. After they get the results you'll get a welcome email and all that good stuff. Congratulations and welcome aboard!
  18. You would have to take that exam to be able to move to those jobs. We get a weekly bulletin with a list a jobs that you can bid for.
  19. It's a 2 part test. For customer service jobs, one part is a personality test.
  20. Definitely exaggerated a bit, the terminal never gets extreme dirty there's 3 shifts that keep It clean throughout the day. The dirtiest parts are probably the public bathrooms but even those aren't that bad.
  21. Lol glad they finally sped up the process. Mines took forever, Test in November, interview in march, medical/drug in September, start day in October lol took forever.
  22. Yup easy. Take your time and read everything carefully so you don't accidentally mess up rushing you'll be fine. Hopefully they start moving quick after you take the test.
