  1. Would anyone know if they have they stopped giving this exam for the time being? Someone told me about it a month or so back, I tried to look for it on the MTA job postings site and do not see it. Do they remove the listing from time to time?
  2. Hello, bumping this thread (almost a year old to this day). The letter that the OP posted, while discouraging is only one person's interpretation of this job, and does not discourage me. Every employer, as well as employee has their own set of issues, no job is without stresses. I am considering applying for this position, and know it will likely be along process if I were to even get hired. I saw someone else above that is in a similar situation to me, asking for opinions on whether or not he should leave his current job in the private sector and take a salary cut, because he was interested in the pension. Some people discouraged him from it. I am a service manager for a construction company, I am almost 45 years old, I make about $140-150k, so I would be taking a significant salary reduction, but I have no retirement. I do deal with a lot of stress, and get little to no time off. Additionally my employer is 65 years old, with no plans for his company to continue operating once he does retire. If that day were to come, I would not be able to replace my salary at my current level. I would more likely be in the sub 100k range at another company, again in the private sector with no pension. I am thinking about applying for this job strictly because of the pension, and because it does sound like an interesting job to me. Just wondering if there was any new feedback/opinions from others on how they feel about working for the MTA and more specifically, this position. Current MTA employees, if you were in my shoes, what would you do? Your pension is the envy of many of us in the private sector.
