  1. Just to give a heads up of whats going on internally and the general situation right now. As another poster stated, some work train jobs got eliminated and some operators had to go back to road jobs. Some T/O's hired from the end of the old list and from the same classes as those on the promtional list before the 7604 list was being called from, were able to pick a job for the first time last pick (We're talking about late 2017 to early 2018 classes). Those T/O's got picked out and were not able to pick, this pick in B division (A division is picking right now). All those T/O's are now extra extra again. No one from this list (7604) has ever picked a job yet. There is a few hundred extra extra T/O's right now and from the last big batch, June graduated, July just graduated, and August is about to graduate, so even more extra extra T/O's. This info is pertinent to hiring because Transit must always have  a surplus of extra extra personnel for coverage of open jobs and ppl calling out.

Schoolcar TSS's said they've been told there will be no classes in the forseeable future, but in the same sentence, it can change at a moments notice. I don't think there will be big batch, back to back month classes soon, but small classes as needed like they have been recently. Everyone in the 1300-1700 range (just throwing out numbers that are close) just be ready with paper work and have your "medical" in order incase the call comes and you won't be put on hold.

Good Luck to everyone. Hope this helps, I know I wanted any and all info when I was waiting.

No I didnt even get my official score. A guy from the MTA had called and basically told me I could have sent in a copy of my HS diploma/certificate since i couldnt afford the evaluation. But there was no way to have known that.

No i did not do PE. He basically said Im off the list. The whole hiring process and rules is arbitrary.

There is something seriously wrong with your process. If you paid for and taken the 7604 exam, they must give you an official score.

And like MTAHopeful said the disqualifying factors begin from there for NOE requiements. But, EVERYTHING starts from list number obtained from your official score. If they blunder from not giving you an official score and you can prove it, you will get exceptions which will help your process.

How big was May's class? Ive read earlier in the forum that May's class was small. If this is true, possibly August would be the last class of the year, because they almost made the 225 goal.

There was no May class....... The last class was April 29th before the June, July, and August classes were announced.....and yes I heard it was small, not sure the exact number, though.

I believe that vacancy number is per quarter or what the amount that was requested by the higher ups....the powers that be.....

I got thrown into the A division as a conductor and I live in midtown Manhattan in the Chelsea area I feel like I'm going to have it hard I was hoping I got the B division lol

You got it better than you think..... being in Manhattan means you're central and can basically go to any terminal or yard much easier than folks on the ends sides.... Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens.... From midtown Manhattan you can probably get on any train without changing to a different train as much......which will mean a lot in the early am's, late pm's, and of course midnight going to and leaving work.....

    This pertains to both divisions....

Yes I did. Guess it doesn't matter.

Wow! You checked declined and sent it in and they still called you.... Trying to gauge this out. As we all know they send out more invites for PE then is availible for schoolcar to make sure they have more than enough for medical. So besides some that are failing PE, put on medical hold.... There's some that moved onto other things and declined, not deferred and still getting called..... hopefully this means the list will be moving fast.....

I declined the job back in November, but they still want me to come on May 23. List #107x.

The reason I declined is that I took the test just to see if I could possibly get employment at age 59 at the time (now 61).  I am retired and leading a good life, so as I said in a previous post I want to see someone get this job because they need it, especially those who have young families or those whose living conditions will improve with decent pay and good benefits.  For me, it is just a dream I had since I was a child.  I have a huge model railroad layout consisting of subways and scratch built structures including elevated lines and stations.  Also, I am in the process of building routes in openBVE.  They are great substitutes for the real thing.   There is probably someone far down the list that will get this job and be thankful for it. I am happy to give my possible employment to that person.

Hey GGTrain... Let me get this right, you declined in November and they still sent you another invite for PE for 5/23? The first time, did you send in the PE letter with the bottom part signed and the "I decline appointment" checked or simply did not come in the day requested?

I think it's great that part of your dream came true and very noble of you to pass your spot onto someone else. And Cheers for a wonderful retirement...

I originally should have been in the feb 25th class but I ended up in the April 1st class.

    First off Congratulations!!!!!

You probaly got pushed to the next class because the 2/24 Induction class is smaller than usual with only 40 students..... 2 A division & 2 B Division. That's only if you didn't defer that is.....

Good news is you will have one of the top list numbers and will be able to choose which divison you want..... that is, if they don't shove everyone into 1 division....

Tbh i barely run into a classmate but we talk everyday... those are the people u grow with in transit ... & those 1 hr lunches are always missed and the stability of school car as far as scheduling goes ... ur about to have a love/hate relationship with overtime.... somedays u just want to go home and not be on the road but they will wave that "its money though" thing in your face. But then some days are amazing !

Yeah man!.......the stability of scheduling in schoolcar, I'm already coming to understand how that works and being at the mercy of the crew office!.....

Man! I was hoping to able to see some classmates waiting on board or on the lines, but I know it can be difficult being how disparaging the scheduling can be and how vast the subways are......

I do know just from life itself...... It's exciting to be starting something new and it's reassuring to know you have stability and security in your occupation, but big picture.....it's a job and there will be good days and bad days............ and there's a reason why they pay us because in perfect dream, we would get money for nothing and chilling all the time!...lol.....

I'm in the 1500's too. I'm not surprised they haven't called us for second PE's yet.  We were too far down when they stopped in the fall to need them.    Right now,  I've heard heads in the 1400s got letters.  We should be getting ours before the end of March.

Everyone,  I've been thru this process before.  I was already a C/R and didn't finish probation.   With all the confusing as to when one gets called,  repeated drug tests and what not,  let me try to clarify a few things.

1)there's no exact time frame for anything untill you report to orientation after you get hired.  That's fact.   So asking how long before I get a letter,  how long before I report after getting hired,  etc is a variable.   There's no definate answer

2)as far as them having consideration of our time for all these appointments,  well,  someone mentioned it best,  if you really want this job,  you'll do what it takes to show up.  As I've mentioned here not long ago,  think of this whole process AS the interview.  How bad do you want this job AND can you come thru when needed cause when you're on the road, no matter what,  you have to show up for work and show up early.  "On time is late".

3)this is the first C/R list that is done completely by Transit themselves and not DCAS.  Hence why not only it seems like it's all over the place but also the addition of the OPA process. We Never had to take an OPA for 8094.

One thing is clear and certain though, when we all were told after taking the test that it's basically take it and forget about it because it will be awhile before jot only being called,  but hired, you now see that it wasn't BS.   And also a word to the wise,  Transit monitors everything.  EVERYTHING.  Br wary of how you act online and yes,  even here.    They csn get a hint of potential "problems" and sometime down the line,  will find an easy way to put you back on the street.  There's a motto among employees in transit.... "CYA". Cover Your A$$. trust  me on this.

Don't rack your brains trying to figure out a time frame.  Wait for those call-ups,  show up when they tell you to.   In-between those times, just go about your normal lives.

    ^^^^^^Facts^^^^^^

A lot of what Far Rock is saying is true....... TA monitors everything...... and in this day and age, they have a specific cyber unit checking on whats going on in social media....

Somebody asked earlier about the training.......and in this thread and other list threads you will notice nobody gets in depth or specific about training....... Now you know the reason why.......

How long after medical did you go to schoolcar?

When you get the email for Medical......it will be for the next scheduled class. I've heard, seen, and talked to people that have been called to come in the Friday before the the class that starts on the Monday...... after that Friday......

  11. 24 minutes ago, Schecter said:

Do you have a guesstimation of when classes are called? Like every 2 or 3 months? Don't mean to sound annoying so I do apologize I just want to make a mental time frame of when I'd be called that's all.

Not annoying at all.....we're here to help each other......

RTO goes by quarters and the last quarter finished in January. February starts the new quarter......before they used to make classes every month within that quarter. As of lately they've been making classes as needed, though. I reported in January that a senior TSS told me that they have a February class planned. I saw in an earlier post it said Olha confirmed Feb 25....... she will definitely know because either her or Maria Vargas will be the one to send an email to you for Medical.......

I, as you probably know already, heard some of these stories from other on the job Conductors, but nothing like feeling and seeing the real deal going through it myself. Your words of wisdom are golden too and I will definitely heed them too!....

Our CRB class is talking about this might be the last time we are all together at the same time and all..... Wondering....how often do you run into CRB/A classmate on the road?

And yeah......those 1 hour lunches together will be missed!......

They're also probably looking for any discrepancies thats why I took a picture of every single page of my first time going to the PE in November. This is off topic but would it be a problem for doing a process with TO and Conductor, because I have my PE for TO next Friday.

On 1/31/2019 at 6:16 PM, Schecter said:

Btw sorry guys I meant to say I have my PE for conductor next Friday I'm on both a TO forum and conductor forum so I got confused on where I was posting.

But I did the OPA for conductor 6601 back in April of 2018 and now I have the PE for conductor next Friday, does anybody know how long the process usually takes from PE until you get sworn in?

These are 2 separate lists and you have to go to each one respectively of each other. I'm on both lists too and have been to PE's for both of them. Conductor called for medical first and I went to Schoolcar for that. If you look at my previous post above......this another way these list numbers move so fast. Because I took Conductor, my spot on the T/O list will go to somebody else. If my math and guess is correct I should be called for the next T/O class.

If you guys want a good guesstimate of when you will be called.......I've noticed the pattern has been about 120-150 from the last number called....give or take 20 or 30 to fill a class of 60.......this isn't written in stone.....just a pattern I noticed since list #1.........

So I called the MTA Exam line and as of yesterday (Jan 30) they are up to 1042. On Dec 17 they were at 898. Guess they’re moving right along. Hope they keep it up.

Yes and the paperwork expires in 90 days too. Atleast that is what the guy told me. My first time I went was May 25th of 2018.. I expect to do this atleast 4 times.

It's very important for you guys keep fighting for this job.... Yes, I said fighting for this job as in battling these hardships of taking time off to come to these PE's/DT's. This is another way of how they get from 898 to 1041 to fill a class of 60 so fast........some people just give up or in between get called from another list of a test they've taken and take that offer instead. Candidates get weeded out. If you guys are getting these PE's/DT's means you're getting close and your time will come. I took 3 PE's/DT's before finally getting into Schoolcar.

The funny or cool thing about this is your perseverance will pay off and if you've notice at these PE's/DT's , you see the same faces going every time you do too......some of these people will be your classmates and more importantly your sub-classmates and you will be joking about this in Schoolcar.......So!......to kill some time....you know....waiting.....and waiting...and waiting some more when your at 180 Livingston....get a head start of meeting and knowing them...... you will be joking about this in Schoolcar too......

My TSS just said that there will be a February class

Yep, heard the same thing....... told by a senior schoolcar TSS......apparently schoolcar TSS's don't like if they're no classes either, they get re-shuffled to other assignment, which they say they usually don't like.......

👋 I am a train operator, I’m pretty well versed in who’s in charge of what. That being said,  that bulletin wasn’t directed at RTO. If you read it, it explains essential positions are exempt. RTO IS ESSENTIAL 🤦‍♂️. My point, 🤷‍♂️. Just saying there’s no freeze for RTO. There will be classes and you will be called. Relax, it’s all coming around. I’m only on here to watch for my wife’s cousin being called and possibly give some insight. I’m just gonna watch from this point on. Y’all seem to have it under control 🤦‍♂️. Good luck😉

Gherigfan1, I'm very familiar with your name and have nothing but gratitude towards you. You've been contributing way back since the schoolcar experience thread and maybe even before that..... You made it on to payroll and still stuck around to help those that are trying to make it on....unlike so many others who left after they got in..... So a Very Big Thank You to You......

Like I said earlier, that's just my opinion about that directive .........and while Lhota did seem to do well on paper.....he was never going to stick around and see things through, not while chairing 2 other jobs as well. Ferrer looks like he wants the job and to take the "acting" out of his title and controlling budgets will always make a big impact and impression to the even higher ups.... I forgot to include the word essential to safety sensitive, but I think we're both on the same page of who we were talking about and maybe to even extend that directive to them. I'm with you and everyone else on this forum and hope they keep on hiring, but I'm trying to look at the big picture of why or if they put a freeze on...... right now there are over 5 classes in the pipeline of T/O schoolcar and that's not including the 2 classes in January, Now, we don't know how many will make the final cut, but we're still looking at around 200-300 fresh brand new T/O's hitting the rails soon........maybe because of that they can pull a freeze for a quarter or so......and then there is the OT they can give out that transit workers love gobbling up........

  17. I was in class at Schoolcar on Friday 1/4 and was told this by a TSS, who was just notified by the Asst. Directer of Schoolcar (that was buzzing around all day Thurs & Fri) that there is a hiring freeze for all titles in RTO........

This hiring freeze can change as fast as it was issued......... Just giving a heads up.......

If you guys want to read more about this.........they are having a discussion about this on the T/O 7604 list thread........... starting on page 128.........

Just found out that there will be no more classes for at least 3 months

This is true. I was in class at Schoolcar on Friday 1/4 and was told this by a TTS, who was just notified by the Asst. Directer of Schoolcar (that was buzzing around all day Thurs & Fri) that there is a hiring freeze for all titles in RTO........ If you paid attention here on this forum (this thread and other RTO titles) and at P/E...... if you ever even went to P/E that is...... Hiring and all projected hiring's are done by quarters and in RTO, this quarter ends in January. This is why after the official list was established in September, we all found out about the classes in Nov, Dec, and Jan around the same time.............. and hence why JoseL stated 3 months above............

Don’t believe it. Or do what you want. Ms Vargas ain’t school car. She does what she’s told. Like I said, I spoke with a superintendent in school car. But again, what do I know.

This not to say Gherigfan is wrong..............he is probably....... definitely right when he heard about the staggering month hiring on I believe he said around Thurs-Fri...12/27-28.....late December. I point this out to illustrate how fast things can change when the powers that be....do what they do........and how fast this hiring freeze can be called off........and to not get hopes to high or dreams delayed, but to know what we're dealing with....... and what can happen.....

Let's lay off Ms. Vargas.....she's in charge of all hiring in RTO and Hiring and Schoolcar go hand in hand........and especially so because she's the only one from HR down at 180 Livingston that ever been honest and forthright ........forthcoming with the Q & A's we've been killing her with on the phone.......LOL..........

    Hi all.

I am not going to lie, I have been lurking on this forum for about a month now. I am number 16XX. And I read that they have appointed up to number 1041.

Anyone know any details on when and if there will be anymore classes.

I thank everyone for all of the updates on this forum. You are all very helpful.

When I went in for my medical on 12/26.......after I passed the medical they have you go back to the main room and wait for final processing. The interviewer asks me if i will be able to make the 12/31 class, I say yes and she says OK she'll get my paperwork together to appoint me.........and I wait some more. When I finally get into the office to do the paperwork I ask her when is the next class after this one and she says I better take this one because she is not sure and nothing is scheduled. The TSS says nothing is planned either.....but, this is just the 1st week in schoolcar.........

Yea that definitely has to be old bcuz im bet.1000 & 1100 and they just called me in start but then took it back bcuz the latest class had just filled up

IF.......for any consolation, you'll definitely be in the next class and will have one of top list #s........ this is important because you'll be able to pick your division.... A or B.

In the 12/31 Class....which is right around 60........you will be broken down to sub-classes of 10. Those sub-classes you will either go to A or B Division. In this class there is only 1 A Division class and 5 B Division classes. Everybody got shoved into B division once A was filled..........

  22. Hi there all........ Time to pay it forward.......

I'm in school car now.....the 12/31 class.... I'm list#103X.... I was one of the last ones appointed. The highest list# in this class is #1041. This class is filled with more than a few pre -list#898 that was last reported to be the last # appointed on this thread. The reason for that I'm guessing is because they didn't have any classes for October and November and this is the class to catch up and get in. Most if not all were because of medical holds that were cleared and those that had to get proper paper work....correct spelling on Birth Certificates, ID - Driver Licenses, and etc... Also in this class are a few reinstatement.....C/Rs coming back from workers comp and some promotionals. Not sure about the promotionals, but for sure the reinstatements do not have list#

Just saying..... Not to call anyone out, but I guess I am....... there are a bunch of people in this class that either outright or tip toed mentioning this thread...forum and not giving back. I was guilty of it and why I stated pay it forward in my first sentence and am now registered to post instead of just lurking. This Great Forum only works if people contribute and the reason why you're walking around and referencing this wealth of knowledge. Yeah......in school car, they're bombarding us with info and studying material and traveling, but please let's help and contribute...... This thread was off the hook with crazy info earlier before....let's keep feeding it.......

    Just saying.......
