  1. Ah, my bad! I never even really noticed the windshields were that tinted, but that's pretty logical that they'd do it to reduce glare. Whoops!
  2. Privacy and likely security as well. You often see operators putting their jackets or even newspaper over the windows for further privacy.
  3. Seriously, you don't think about sick passengers delaying things until you see it happen. I got to 74 St-Broadway, and heard someone had passed out on the platform, and saw a man unresponsive very close to the platform edge, with people surrounding him, including the C/R. Someone started to do CPR, and after maybe 10 minutes, EMS arrived and took him away, but service was already well past screwed by then, as it was the 7 during rush hour. Still, it made me realize that sick passenger could be anything from someone who just puked all over a car to someone who might be having a stroke or a heart attack and needs urgent medical attention. Quite possibly he might've not made it in the end; I'm not sure, but I can say that taking him all the way to Hudson Yards would not have been the right course of action, as you suggested they should do.
  4. Slow down there, you might wanna take off your tinfoil hat...
  5. I would think a Shuttle program would be like that by default. It would simply announce the next stop at each end, and the exterior signs likely would read something like "42 St Shuttle - Grand Central - Times Square"
  6. For some reason I've seen the ring both out on test R179s, but also in-service trains as well. They usually seem to go back on – maybe it goes off if the C/R changes the FIND mid-route?
  7. An R160 Q train approaching Avenue M after some snow
  8. An R160 F train at Coney Island-Stillwell Av
  9. An R142 2 train at 174 St
  10. Saw the set today at Jay St – caught me by surprise. Hopefully the snow won't affect anything tomorrow and it can finish out the 30 days with no hitches.
  11. Totally forgot about that. It threw me for a loop since it was just about 1 PM when I saw it arriving at East 180th.
  12. Saw an R142A on the today! It went express from E 180 St to Pelham Parkway, and it then came back down out of service. Not sure how/why it ended up on the , but I did manage to grab a photo of it:
  13. I assume for a minor issue like that caused by a passenger they just keep the train in service until it's scheduled to go back to the yard as to not reset the 30-day clock.
  14. Why wouldn't it is my question. With the 10-car R179s in service on the , it'd free up a lot of R46 trainsets for use on the (13 assuming every 46 that could be moved out by a 179 is moved), which is just about 2/3 of the fleet. I'd think a surplus of 32s could also allow for 10-car sets to then run, right?
  15. Can confirmed not OOS, someone from Discord posted this vid of it leaving Utica – clearly with passengers. Carry on, everyone, and here's to a hopefully incident-free 30-day test!
  16. Thanks! The biggest issue for me likely would be finding a place in my room to put the lamp, or figure out some sort of mount to place it on. I'll definitely post here if I can get a bulb inside and have it lit up well, as I'm sure it'd be really cool to have it look like a nice authentic entrance lamp. Just wondering, I assume if I did want to use a bulb that they would use that it'd be easy to run it off of standard household current?
  17. IIRC there are no plans to scrap them, as you said, just in case they are needed. I'm pretty sure nothing will be getting scrapped until the 211s show up.
  18. I was just at Broadway Junction last Thursday, and I saw multiple sets of 42s. IIRC they moved to Pitkin and then back to ENY – or some are at Pitkin and some are at ENY
  19. Well the 42s have yet to be reassigned somewhere outside of ENY, but the 32s are still definitely good to help bolster service. The R179s are just eliminating the fleet shortage; scrapping those cars now and possibly recreating that problem isn't a great idea – considering the pilot 211 is slated to arrive next year it's not like the R32s would be running for another decade, anyways.
  20. Very nice, so when all is said and done the C will be half R179s. Nice.
  21. Can't say they don't sound nice, though!
  22. Speaking of which, does anyone know how much of the C's fleet now is made up of R179s? I know the C has, what, 18 sets assigned to it, so the 179s have to be nearing half of that by now
  23. Awesome, we've crossed the 3200 mark! Seems like every week or so now a new 179 is going into service on the C
  24. I know what you mean. ONIX and the R179's MITRAC have a harsher tone, while the older MITRAC 1580c inverters have a more soft tone. All I was saying is Alstom isn't exclusively harder sounds, for example this is Alstom propulsion, and even other ONIX systems in this video aren't like the R142s and R160s
  25. The thing is the Bombardier trains are all using MITRAC, which is one of their widespread products. ONIX, however, doesn't seem to be produced by Alstom anymore, so it'll be interesting to see how a decade and a half makes a difference in terms of propulsion style.
