  1. Yup, that's your best bet, unless you have someone who knows where along the line they are. I waited at 34-Penn so I could film other trains on the local tracks while also waiting (and not missing) the 32 I wanted going uptown.
  2. Here is an entrance globe that my dad was able to get for me the day of the reopening of 86th Street after its ESI rebuild. I'd love to turn it into a lamp or something, but the metal divider which internally divides the green and white sections make it difficult to know what light may fit inside that would light up both halves well.
  3. With CBTC likely active on many more lines by the time the open-gangway trains show up, I wouldn't be surprised if either: they've begun to do OPTO on said lines, or at least the MTA will be fighting with the TWU to let them do OPTO (and with CBTC rolling out to more and more trunk lines, I'd expect some sort of rehash of the L train fight over OPTO in the coming years).
  4. I've seen at least 3-4 sets running during rush hours on the . As long as you are patient and can afford to just sit and wait at a station, you can get one. It's just a matter of being at the right place at the right time, or just waiting a long time for one to come back the other way if you've seen it going away from your direction of travel.
  5. Sort of a side note, but I've always wondered why the R142s and R160s with Alstom propulsion sound quite similar, yet each have distinct differences? Is it just a difference in time between manufacturing, or something else? I know Wikipedia at least lists both having the same model (4LCA1640A) of Alstom Onyx motors, so I've always wondered as to the sound differences between them.

    R179 3190

R179 3190 just after arriving on the southbound track at 168 St
  7. An R179 C train sits in the foreground, ready to leave for Euclid Av, while an R32 A sits in the background, about to head north to 207 St
  8. An R32 A train headed southbound, ready to depart 34 St-Penn Station
  9. How many sets are now on the now? I know I saw at least 4 yesterday...
  10. An R160 R train at Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Av
  11. A northbound R160 M train to 96 St-2 Av, waiting to depart 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Center
  12. An R32 C train at 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal just after arriving at the station
  13. An R179 C train at 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal
  14. Could very well be if they are working on the middle platform. Pretty much anything to make Chambers Street look nicer would be a welcome change of scenery
  15. According to the sign at the end of the video on the mezzanine, it's likely related to adding elevators to Chambers Street. It seems like a side effect of that project is that Chambers is also receiving a facelift, at least to some degree. Well-needed, IMO
  16. If you're referring to the LED lights and stanchions, a lot of the R160s on the (as well as the ones that were running on the ) have been getting the whole deal–stanchions, LED lights, and floor mats. I've also seen a number of R142s with yellow stanchions (not looped), as well as the LED lights (can't remember if they've gotten floor mats or not).
  17. I saw a whole bunch of 32s on the today - I ended up riding a R160 down from 125 St, and boy, I can't wait for the 179s to begin service on the . That express is quite a nice ride on a NTT (the particular 160 I was on had an almost perfect ride, with nearly no bumps!), even with the timers after 86 St. I also saw those 179s out on the , and was able to catch a video of one of the sets flying into 42 St (Not sure what the first four cars were but the last four were 3186-3189). All I can say is that the 32s are a great fit on the express, and so it's a treat to see the occasional set on the , and this weekend's service change meant that many express R32s were to be had. The and are truly the best for variety right now!
  18. Got a link somewhere? Or something to look up that might help one find it?
  19. Sadly it might be true, as Kawasaki just faces a lot of competition at home in Japan. There are six major rolling stock manufacturers in Japan, so it's quite a saturated market (Kawasaki, Hitachi, J-TREC, Kinki Sharyo, Niigata Transys, and Nippon Sharyo, just based off a quick skim of Wikipedia)
  20. Could have been the S.P.E.E.D. unit, as I noticed the 8th Avenue Line seemed suspiciously absent from the list of changes they've settled upon for speed limit increases (looking at you, southbound Central Park West express after 86th Street)
  21. I don't even get how some of the conversion cars still have like dirt smears and whatnot from the . It boggles my mind that they wouldn't have at least gotten a nice power wash or something in the process of moving them onto the .
