  1. Even in the US they can be like that. I just went to Portland, and the MAX trains both run on the street in downtown, with fairly frequent stops, and also on dedicated ROWs outside of downtown, with further station spacing. I remember in San Francisco the Muni Metro also ran in a tunnel under Market Street, but ran on the surface like a streetcar route outside of downtown. I know the MBTA's Green Line also does this on one of the branches, with other branches running on dedicated ROWs
  2. On Sunday I went up the , and took some photos and videos along the line in Upper Manhattan. Enjoy! A South Ferry-bound departing 125 St Looking across the platform at 125 St. I love the ironwork here A Van Cortlandt Park-bound train approaching the station Looking at the switch where the third track merges into the local track at 145 St Looking northwards from 181 St The northern end of 181 St Looking down from the overpass Station name mosaic I really love the architecture of 181 St (Yes, there's a dog waiting for the train, too!) The curve north at Dyckman St Looking south towards the tunnel A northbound train just after arriving A closer view of the tunnel portal A fairly uncommon sight – outdoor station name mosaics! 207 St station – fairly average as elevated stops go Obligatory shots of the 207th Street Yard, featuring some museum cars! 3. While waiting for a friend at Spring Street yesterday, I decided to record a few trains passing by. I even caught an out of service 3 heading up Lexington Avenue, which is quite a rare sight! Enjoy!
  4. I know it's Cuomo colors, but I have to say that paint scheme really looks sharp. It's amazing how even a little paint in the front can add so much character to the car
  5. Enjoy this full RFW ride on the , from 34 St-Hudson Yards to Flushing-Main St. Around Queensboro Plaza one can see the benefits of CBTC nicely, as we follow a local ahead only about 200 or so feet behind it!
  6. Enjoy this ride up the 8th Avenue Express, from High Street to 125 St. Sadly the window was dirty on my train, but I was lucky that I caught it as soon as I got off the F at Jay.
  7. Enjoy this ride up Broadway from the front of an R62A 1 train, from 116 St-Columbia University, to Marble Hill-225 St.
  8. So why was it MIA for like a week? I heard software upgrades?
  9. This evening I went out to Smith-9th in Brooklyn, and took some photos and videos of some and trains. Hope you all enjoy! Mosaic name tablet at the station Trusswork just south of the platforms A Church Avenue-bound train boards passengers at the southbound platform Looking across the tracks under the main bridge structure A Coney Island-bound train just after arriving at the station Another Church Avenue-bound , with a Bedford-Nostrand Avenue-bound in the background A northbound ready to depart A southbound just south of the station A southbound departing A Coney Island-bound rounding the curve up into Smith-9th Lastly, a Church Avenue-bound curving into the station
  10. I mean...that's not entirely true but yes, the trains should get priority
  11. Homeless don't pitch a tent on the outside, though. The deep cleaning also makes the exteriors look far better – some R160s and R188s looked really, really crappy with tons of black smears.
  12. Exactly. I think it's more that the fleet is rapidly approaching the point where a large portion of it will be compatible with CBTC, and also the fact that the and (the two most isolated lines) are now complete with CBTC, so the TA is moving on to the rest of the system.
  13. The thing is, it's not like whoever was with the kid intentionally let him get onto the tracks. I'm sure all it took was a spit second of not paying attention (something very easy to have happen by accident) for the kid to get away from his guardian.
  14. But wouldn't they still have to bring them back sooner or later? I thought the plan was for Broadway to lose some R160s, and replace them with Jamaica's R46s. Edit: thought that it was referring to future yard assignments, not past. So if I am understanding correctly, Jamaica lost R160s, but will be getting them back soon?
  15. Why in the world would Jamaica be losing the cars that would be needed for Queens Blvd CBTC...
  16. He was autistic and managed to get away from his parents. Lucky he didn't have any adverse reaction when the T/O stopped to help.
  17. Isn't it a turnbridge? Also, I know that they just brokered a deal to limit traffic through the Portal Bridge, so it's not an impossible idea.
  18. Which circles right back to the new deep cleaning program We're basically saying "gee, it sucks stuff isn't being cleaned" in response to the fact that they're cleaning more stuff in more thorough ways now. Hopefully they'll keep this up and expand the deep cleaning to more cars and stations. 33 St on the definitely looks great – someone mentioned it got a deep clean and it really looks like it's 15 years newer from its prior renovation.
  19. I think the normal car washes are basically a souped-up car wash; things like graffiti smears on stainless steel (I don't know how to describe it, but the spots on cars where paint was obviously cleaned off) as well as steel dust buildup and other grime probably penetrate deeper and are harder to clean than a simple wash. Also, it seems like they got some new end bonnets as well
  20. I believe it's part of another 4-car set at ENY that was awaiting its arrival. I think for some reason 3070-73 was delayed and held back instead of coming in a while ago when the rest of the 30XX cars arrived
  21. Wasn't part of the whole congestion pricing thing part of a reform package for the MTA (to what degree we'll see, given that it's Cuomo of course)
  22. Mind if I use this data for a term paper I'm writing for school about the subway system's downfall in the 70s and 80s? I've been looking for nice ridership data that extends before the 70s as well as after, and this is a holy grail for me with how specific it is!
