  1. Fast forward would (try to) do the majority of the system in 10 years, not just a single line in 10 years. As with all public works projects, it will face delays of course, but we shouldn't use that as an excuse to not do anything. People would rather have a continuously shitty system forever instead of being inconvenienced for a few years and getting a massively better system for decades to come unfortunately. To bring this thread back to topic: with Kawasaki having issues with getting the M9 out on time, and with how relatively large the R211 order is, I'm assuming the chance of Kawasaki getting the R262 order is pretty low? With Bombardier (and potentially Kawasaki) out, what does that leave us with? Alstom and CRCC? Has Siemens ever bid on a NYCT rolling stock order?
  2. Where is this coming from? I keep hearing people say it, yet in today’s CPOC meeting Pete Tomlin not only mentioned using Thales CBTC on the Queens Blvd line but also finally bringing Mitsubishi on board and potentially a fourth supplier (I’m assuming Bombardier since they’re probably the second biggest CBTC supplier) since the system is so large and apparently none of the companies can provide that much equipment and support in a reasonable timeframe, implying all 3 or 4 suppliers will be used.
  3. Found them in an article. Apparently this was announced a while ago. I believe the presentation had some updated side by side shots but this has many of them: https://www.6sqft.com/cuomo-reveals-new-lirr-station-and-public-plaza-at-penn-station/
  4. I’m referring to the new entrance and exchange of space segment. Basically they’re doing som property swap with vornado, pushing the storefronts back and getting rid of that weird barrel roof and upgrading the lighting. That’s what I was referring to alosnginsde upgrading and adding some entrances. Is this meant to lead into a potential actual future re-built penn or is this the MTA just giving up and admiring penn will always be trash so might as well just make it look somewhat nice.
  5. I suppose this is only tangentially related to the subway but did anyone else see the new plans to widen and rebuild the LIRR main concourse area in Penn? They had pictures of it in a presentation during today’s Board meeting. It looked nice and all bout wasn’t the idea that in 2023, we’d kick MSG out and build a proper station with better connections between all the rail and the subway? Did we completely just give up on that or is this just something to hold us over in the mean time or something that would accompany the main area under current day MSG? Maybe better suited for the LIRR/MN sub forum but those hardly seem used on this site.
  6. When it comes to lower density areas, buses and light rail are king. I don’t understand why NYC is so allergic to light rail. It’s so much cheaper and quieter and less likely to get public pushback.
  7. Hey guys. Not sure if this is the right thread to ask but I got two quick questions: I know the Kawasaki built R142s can be upgraded to R188. Can the Bombardier built ones be upgraded to be fully compatible too or would they get a different designation (if at all) such as R188A or something. Also any idea if they ever plan on replacing the strip map with the LED display system found on newer trains?
