  1. Anybody got any idea on where the R42s are now? I’m heading to the J to see it
  2. True. I just wish they would inform the public when there is a final run for some sort of equipment, like with the R42s in late december
  3. Alright thanks. I tried tweeting the twitter handle a couple times but got no response
  4. With the R42s back on the J/Z lines temporarily due to the door problems, does anybody have any idea what time they are running out of broad st in the PM tomorrow? Going to try to catch one myself because I missed the retirement
  5. A cool extension would be converting most of the A division lines to B division standards. If we want a truly modern system then we shouldn't have to deal with subway cars that are uncomfortably narrow. On elevated structures, this wouldn't be that hard. Underground, is a different story. No idea how to pull that off lol
  6. How much longer until R46s on the F are gone completely?
  7. Corner is a prime spot for folks to handle their business
  8. The reporter I guess didn't know what he was talking about. The R42 subway cars are officially retired from service as of December 30, 2019, at 10:12AM
  9. Update on a NY1 Reporter statement: " sources tell me the last R42 left the J line this morning, at 10:12, out of Broad Street, in Lower Manhattan" @danrivoli
  10. I sure hope. I was disapointed that the claimed retirement on December 30 was not announced, even after asking the subway twitter. Unfortunatley I missed it, by just an hour.
  11. The fact is that the 4 was not built to meet today's standards. An entire rebuilding of the line would need to be made, an while it's not completely feasible, I do agree with the fact that the 4 commute from the northernmost stops is ridiculous and some sort of express service should be put into play.
  12. I have some sort of OMNY pamphlet that I got from a MetroCard bus and lots of special work LIRR Timetables from the early 2010s
  13. reuse of the North Shore Branch on Staten Island A train extension to Yonkers via Riverdale Avenue
  14. F extension to Little Neck Pkwy 6 Extension to Eastchester-Dyre Av by way of Co-op City (Section 5, Bay Plaza, Drieser)
  15. I wouldn't consider the last part entirely true. People there are not only seeking out routes into Manhattan and the Bronx; Queens, specifically the Flushing Terminus, is a major transfer point. The entire run is over an hour (from flushing to earhart lane), and the stops are frequent, so the Q50 LTD, in my opinion, doesn't feel like a real limited service. According to the bus maps, the Q50 stops are just as frequent as the Bx23 in some parts, making the split of the Qbx1 into a local and limited service not literal. It should work more like this: bx23 on 3-4 or so minute intervals, stops at every loop, via 1-2-3-4-5 or 5-4-3-2-1 (which is what it already does), then back to pelham bay at all times. The Q50 should be more around 7 minute headways in the peak hour, but run more express, making only around 9 stops around co-op city to make the trip around in 10 minutes or less, so it's a real limited service. Then, eliminate several stops along the route in the bronx and queens and replace it with a local route that only runs between flushing and pelham bay. Then the Q50 should make the trip in 40 minutes (at least, that's how it should be, i haven't done enough research to make it line up with the stops). And make the Q50 run via 5-4-3-2-1 as well, so riders going to and coming from the train have a local or express option both ways-local if they want a more direct route that takes a little longer, or a faster but slightly less frequent route that requires slightly more walking (no more than a couple minutes though, considering the neighborhood layout). Then, for service to Queens and other connecting points there that are frequent, unlike most people think, make it a faster and more express trip with true limited service, by doing the stop-elimination and local replacement with the Bx23 in co-op and other bus between pelham bay and flushing.
  16. Q50 is Limited Co-op City Earhart lane to Flushing Main St/39 Av
  17. Cool. The I found that at woodhaven jucntion, the wye between the two branches has been converted into a school bus yard, so that's a dissapointing prospect in terms of the structure being intact
  18. But didn't they only demolish one of the fly-overs? One of the tracks is still intact
  19. What's the status for the R42s? If the retirement is definite, the train was still at ENY. What happens to that?
  20. The question at hand was the time from Inwood to Penn via the Rockaway beach branch, however the rockaway beach branch went to 116 st, not to inwood. The reference I made was the time from ozone park to Penn station, which was 32 Minutes, not 22. That was a spelling error on my part. The Rockaway Beach Branch south of Ozone Park was converted for subway usage in 1956, so LIRR Trains from then on terminated at ozone. This 3.5 mile stretch was abandoned on June 8, 1962. A fire on the wooden trestle across the bay on the LIRR line in 1950 is what cut service, so instead trains ran via the rockaway beach branch until going via the hammels wye, then along the far rockaway branch into penn station. The other rockaway beach branch stations in queens (whitepot to ozone park) continued to operate.
  21. Either way, does this mean that permanently, definetivly, without a doubt, that R42s will never perform a revenue run again? That would be sad, they were always a personal favorite and I never got to take them one last time.
  22. according to the official twitter the R42s are officially retired. If they're not in regular revenue service, then what does that mean for their fate? Do they just idle at ENY now?
