  1. OJT in  Bronx - you will actually work and do physical labor, it will simulate what capital work is actually like. You will learn get a general feel for what actual work is. This is ideal for people who want capital and maintenance.

Brooklyn OJT - you do nothing. Ideal for cleaning.

    *Actually cleaning does more work

Also what is on the medical.

Medical is an all day process,  even if all goes well. Make sure to have a money order for the exact amount and from the post office. The money order is last step once your hired. You have another quick drug test,  a vision test, a hearing test and a ekg. Then a doctor will review results from all tests,  and do a few more physical tests and ask questions. After that if you pass, you will go in for finger printing once hired. Expect to be there for most of day. I was in at 7am and left at 530. Good luck to all. Also you will take a photo for your ID pass.

I’m not at that stage yet but at 180 they said they’ll send out emails for the medical.

The 1st time contacted for pre employment was via phone call , text and email. They contacted thru text and email for drug screening. They only emailed for medical. After medical if you pass, they give you your start date, first day of class.

Just realized NYC Transit sent my PE in October to a really old email I used to have even though I told them numerous times to update it.

Will I have any issues reinstating my name? Deadline was in October and they didn’t text me with my updated phone number as well. I left NYC in 2019 so I made sure to update them with everything and they still mess it up

I would go to 180 Livingston and explain the situation in person. Bring all needed documents and hope for the best. I know someone who had the same situation and was able to reinstate their list number. Good luck

No problem man, that's just track, 100 different speculations daily, most with zero basis to go on. Picks average 2 years, and until you see a pick book in your quarters, or see it posted by the union it most likely isn't happening. Give it a few months as I mentioned above you should start seeing bid sheets appear, but even with that, there's a new lady running picks and bids so who knows if that structure, and frequency will remain the same. The finalized pick book itself was a mess, allot of misspellings, dudes with female names, wrong seniority numbers etc.

2018 pick there were allot of jobs that never went out to bid that should of, full rate spots, etc. Rumor has it that's part of the reason why Ms Washington who used to run picks and bids retired along with a few of her co-workers, another reason why the pick took as long as it did on top of COVID.  Everything was a mess, and the new lady who's running it now basically had to learn and start it all from scratch. This is information I heard directly from a guy in the union, safe to say it's probably 95% accurate.

    Happy Holidays !

I've heard different things as to a whole bunch of issues behind the bids and picks. There is definitely alot of confusion with the last switch over last week. Some gangs have no supervisor and some supervisors have no gang. Who knows what's going to happen as far as upcoming bids and picks. There is also another class coming in and they are being placed all over. I'll definitely keep my eyes open for those sheets in headquarters and the union posts. Thanks. Have a happy and safe holiday.  Be safe out on those tracks.

We just changed over as of Sunday 12/19, whoever told you anything about a pick in September is false.

    @ Everyone with X jobs

Two things could happen, your X jobs might or may not go out to bid it all depends. If they go out to bid they'll be posted as OPEN bids which means anyone from the most senior guy in track to the most junior can bid on that job. If a senior guy bids into it, it's usually a location preference or tour that wasn't available at the pick. If the X jobs don't go out to bid you'll keep them unless you decide to bid into something else, or until the next pick comes.

Regular jobs that go out to bid you'll see the seniority number of the person who had that job, or it will be listed as OPEN if it wasn't filled at the pick. For instance if there is a Dual Rate Welder Burner spot out to bid, and the person who held that job was seniority number 1555, the only people who can bid on that job are persons with seniority number 1556 or lower, anyone from 1554 and above cannot bid on that job, so just make sure when the bid results come out pay attention, sometimes picks and bids messes up, and a person above the listed number gets it. I've seen it happen a few times, and if it's noticed that bid for that job will be rescinded, and the person with the highest seniority closest to 1555 will win that bid.

Bid sheets aren't out yet, and probably won't be for a few months, there are still allot of people getting trained for the jobs that they picked in August, and the class sizes are very small. Once all of the training is done, you'll most likely see the bid sheets come out.

Remember two things with the bid sheets

If the job is listed as OPEN, anyone can bid into it

If the job listed was a previously picked job that went out to bid, only the persons with a seniority number lower than the posted number can bid on it, anyone senior to the listed number on the bid sheet cannot bid into it.

Also to those with X jobs, if you like your spot you can bid back into it and keep it so don't over think anything, same goes for if you hate it, you have the option of getting out.

When my class came into track I bid out to a Dual Rate Spec Operator spot, a few months after i came in, and allot of guys in my class kept their X jobs for 2 years until we had to pick.

As far as picks are concerned, the foreman pick every year as it's in their contract, as for us, a pick is generally every 1.5-2 years, but with COVID, and other things that went on, the 2018 pick lasted more than 3 years.

So pretty much we won't be picking again until 2023 the earliest, but you'll see bid sheets come out during this pick, people retire, people become foreman, people promote to different titles, and those jobs go out to bid. The first bid sheet that comes out are mostly the jobs that weren't filled at the pick, so mostly all of those will be OPEN, for the exception of a few that might have been promoted or retired before the changeover, in those cases you'll see the seniority number of those who picked those jobs. Some of you new guys might get lucky and land one of those spots. Bid on anything you can, you never know what could happen.

Appreciate the info.  I've noticed that it's hard to get a definite answer in transit. The previous information I received was from a MS2, and alot of information has been wrong. Thx for the clarification

Question for all the new track workers coming out of class. Did they say you have to stay in your x picks until next pick or will they eventually tell you you have have to get something from a bid sheet?

They said if a position is available,  we are eligible to pick. It does go by seniority so it isnt as easy as it sounds. I However there was already a mini pick that just passed and we don't expect to pick until the next big pick which is around September. I would expect to stay in your current position out of OJT until the next big pick.

Does anyone know the starting pay for the track worker Postion ?

24.77 is starting.. Night differential is a little over 1.00 more if you work overnight. But you can bid for a dual rate track worker and make specialist pay scale when needed. After dual rate you can bid for a specialist position permanently.

When I registered I got a link sent to my email. I kept the email so on the day of orientation I just clicked on the link. You can use a cellphone or laptop, as long as your online your good.

Thanks, I just checked my email. I received a email with link. Appreciate the response

  10. Anyone complete the zoom class orientation?. Once you register,  is it the same link used to register or a different link to attend?  The instruction paper doesn't clarify and can you participate thru cellphone or need a computer/ laptop. I've never used zoom so I'm not sure how it works. Thx

  11. Make sure you have every document and READ each direction carefully.  Mistakes are easily made and will set you back. If you had any surgery on any part of your body, I would see a doc and get a note / clearance for that particular surgery to ensure you are OK to perform physical work. They will test and look for issues especially with those that have / had a condition or trauma to make sure you are qualified. Don't have any tickets of any kind, in any state or any criminal charges pending.  Bring the disposition papers for whatever and make sure you are out of trouble.  I've seen people turned back right before they made it to be hired. Good luck

Is the List number my spot in line? if so, I have a wait ahead of me

The list # is in order in which we will be called. So if your list # hasn't been called, just stay patient and keep checking this blog as it keeps us all updated with the hiring process.  Good luck

Just finished the whole hiring process on Wednesday . Officially start nov 8. Just a heads up make sure you have ALL your paperwork required. I got put on medical hold because I didnt have glasses with me even though I only wear contacts. So had to go buy prescription glasses to do the eye exam. Just a heads up for anyone with contacts/glasses. Also if you have any criminal record make sure to have court disposition paper. They dont tell you that you need it until you are there so it delayed my hiring process. Good luck to everyone

How long were you on medical hold ? Just curious if anything is needed,  how much time is given since I'm from out of town.

  14. It was a little over 2 weeks from the drug screening until I received the email for medical. Just make sure you have all proper documents and the pre employment forms filled out correctly. Make sure you don't have any pending tickets or summons of any kind open and if you do, pay it off before the date and have documented proof you did. After the drug screening,  I would say within 30 days, you will be hired in. Good luck

Received a phone call today to come to 180 Livingston street to continue the employment process. I haven’t received an email yet. List number 89*. What do I need to bring with me besides the completed application?

Social security card, birth certificate and state ID/Drivers license.  Make sure you don't have any outstanding tickets of any kind. They won't let you take the drug test if you do.  I saw three people sent home when I went for drug test. If you do have to take care of any tickets,  have proof that they are handled. Good luck ** also check your spam email or keep checking your inbox,  there was a link for a questionnaire that had to be completed the day before your appointment
