Not exactly sure what you're asking with this....

QCM & Bay Plaza are the reasons I wouldn't say RFM is better than every city mall put together....

    ...is a joke.

I meant, what is the amount of riders bus operators will allow before flagging people?

Just recently, i noticed Orion VII Next Gen #1879 on the n4 with rear and side cameras similar to the ones on the XN40's. If anyone knows, could you tell me when NICE began installing external cameras on their Orions? Thanks!

Is NICE going to repaint anymore Orion 7s?

They're swapping R32 sets with other R32's from 207th. This set from 207th rides like complete garbage and 3682 has busted a.c. which is the head car.

Most of the R33's are in storage, more R32's and the R42's are supposed to replace them and push the R127/134's to the A division to displace their R33's

    3384/85, 3682/83 and 3806/07 207th to ENY

So is the MTA going to kill off their last remaining R33 cars (outside of the TOMC units) and send them to scrap? Also, have any Diesel locos been scrapped like R47's or R52s?

Haven’t been there since the recent makeover. I know quite a few stores are closed now. Although they still have the better stores than any of the city malls.

Queens Center and Staten Island Mall are OK.

    King's plaza?

Sounds about right for the B37; seldom ever shows up promptly when you need it..... B70's a little more reliable than the B37, but not by all that much..... B35 to the B44 is a nice little joyride coming from out there (Sunset Park), heading back down around the Junction....

I'd fathom that much of nobody gives a shit about social distancing on the B35 here; there's been shoulder to shoulder crowding on buses, back when they commenced separating the b/o from the riding public with those chains & what not.... Outside of boosting service, there's nothing you can really do with the B37 as far as rectifying those gaps.... Thing doesn't garner enough usage overall to justify (regular/scheduled) short turns (which is what made AEMoreira's B37 diversion & truncation idea all the more ridiculous)....

As far as Micro Center goes.... Man, once I found out they had a location in Brooklyn, Best Buy could go eat a d***.... I knew about the ones in E. Garden City (which is well hidden btw) & Paterson, but I wasn't going to be driving out to either of them with any real regularity.... As far as public transit goes, I want no dealings whatsoever with NICEbus & you can't get to the one in Paterson (after getting off the #161 along Vreeland & walking) without crossing McLean, which is basically an expressway - concrete dividers & everything....

So what's the average capacity on buses now for proper distancing?

I’ve been seeing shots of 0023 at Yonkers. Is it currently there or did it go back to the facility in New Jersey again?

Also, whats the status on those M99 and Bx99 routes that were mentioned a while back? Just curious, not being pushy.

    It's in New Jersey.

The riders will end up "paying" for it.... The riders are the ones who depend on these services.... The MTA OTOH have been quite consistent & persistent over the years when it comes to service decreases.... Don't fall for the assumption that this agency actually wants to provide as much service as they currently do.... Pay close attention to these individual borough local bus network redesigns.... The crisis (Covid) will only justify whatever (aggressive) cost-cutting measures they have in store for the bus network in this city.....

I can't help but wonder if there will be a major fleet decrease and depot closures as a result of this in the coming years. Similar to what NICE did back in 2017, but on a much worse scale...

The orange sign buses were actually 244 (until retirement at Baisley Park), 247, and 522.

That said, why did the MTA want the diesel 402-680 batch out so quickly? Some of that batch barely did 13 years, while the last of the RTS buses delivered right after were (or will be by year's end) retired after 22 years. I know that there were problems near the end with the last batch that meant their retirement ahead of the 1996 Novas.

I really have to wonder if Orion just provided a slightly substandard product, as now hybrids are being retired ahead of the last batch of RTS buses.

I know this is only, but I do fine this tread interesting. IIRC, The 1994-1995 and 1996 Orion V diesels were having rusting issues, so bad that the buses themselves were falling apart and were therefore no longer roadworthy. That was why as soon as the 2009 Orion VII NG hybrids got delivered in the Bronx especially during the spring and summer of that year, the most of the 1993-1996 Orion Vs went bye bye. The 1994-1995 CNG units that were out of Jackie Gleason depot in Brooklyn at the time did alot better considering that JG had decent maintenance and didn't run them as hard as their diesel counterparts in other Boroughs. However, the 2010 doomsday cuts nearly did them in until it was decided to give them to MTA bus company for awhile, but came the end of September, they were sadly retired for good without any replacements as the new C40LFs would not arrive for another year.

Thank you. Yes. The MTA should never scrap or reef cars immediately after retirement. They need to be preserved as an emergency fleet until the new cars are running in optimum condition.

It did happened with the redbirds, but it didn't happen with the r38's and the slants.

Yeah, I mean it's common sense. I was just saying that on the bus side of things with the RTS's. They should have keep like 40-60 of the best Nova bus RTS's and most of the 2004 Orion VII OG hybrids in storage for emergencies. There should be an internal memo somewhere saying that an X amount old out going transit equipment should be sidelined just incase of teething issues or quality control problems on new equipment and that they should remain on site for up to 5 years.

Man, you'd need one of the old TTMG rosters for this. Those buses went everywhere in later years. Trainfan is right that the Command buses went to SC, the Triboros to CP and the Queens Surface buses at well. If I remember right the Command and Triboro buses originally had semi-suburban seats and were used for express service (though later bumped down to local), while most of the QSC buses had transit seats and ran on local routes (and in turn ended up in NYCB service at the end). SC did get a handful of 7200s before retirement. Looking back on my records, I photographed at least 7216 and 7219 out of SC--think they got the lower numbers and CP kept the higher ones. A bunch of 9800s and 9900s bounced around NYCB in their final years--WF and JG each had a large batch once the 1995 V CNGs were retired, at one point LIB even had a few buses during a pinch, and finally they retired from NYCB out of JG. Gleason's last buses were 9827, 9829, 9843, 9846, 9911 and a couple others. The last bus to run systemwide was 9849, which became a foamer favorite in those last few weeks of kids chasing them around Queens (the CP buses ran LGA routes for many of the final days), and 9874 was the last operable bus as a maintenance shuttle at CP.

Also, does anyone know when LIBus retired their 1992 Orion V CNGs (#656-666)?

So yeah like everyone else said the 708-751 were ex Command Bus units (SC)

7214-7285 were from Triboro Coach (LGA)

8568-8581- were from Queens Surface (CP)

    9827-9999 were also from CP

    9827-9931 were 1999 units and 9932-9999 were 1998 units.

    9999 was renumbered to 8582.

    In the days before the NF C40LF’s came in back in 2011;

WF and JG had several 1999 units. Several of those units never made it back to CP however some did.

SC primiarly had the 700’s even though they also did have 7214-7219 and 7221

CP did have 711, 713, 717, 748-750 and the rest of the 7200s all the 8500s and all the 9800 and 9900 units that weren’t at WF/JG.

I remember even later on in 2011, Long Island Bus borrowed several of the Orion V CNG’s from the city while their own buses were being fixed up.

About that, I know that was because MTA LIBus was failing state inspections and whatnot, but was that only the Orion V CNGs (1500s and 1600s) or did the NGs do bad too?

Yeah. I also noticed the similarity, but I can't put my finger on which one...

As for the old style, it was the same design that the Savannah bus network (and, until recently, the New Orleans RTA) utilized.

If you want to see real cookie-cutter timetable design, most Australian timetables are designed by one firm (Transit Graphics), using a few relatively standardized templates. Not that I mind - they're quite good (and, to their credit, they've diversified the layouts in the past two years)!

Seems that 2008 Orion VII NG CNG #1700 was in an accident the other day while working the n22. Going to be OOS for a while.

Considering it suffered a rear engine fire and it's around 7 years old (around 1/2 the lifespan), I don't think they'll pull a 8017 and rebuild it but they've surprised me before. It takes them awhile to assess and rebuild it anyways, 5252 (ex-5295) took 6 years to rebuild but that bus was around 2-3 years old at the time of the crash.

    #5299.
