  1. Yeah, I've only used LIRR maybe like 3-4 times since moving here so I never know the procedure (for me the LIRR isn't worth the price and isn't all that convenient because I had always lived in the Jackson Heights area until recently). I just did it to be safe because I didn't know what to expect. Are LIRR conductors normally strict about free transfers whenever there is construction or service disruption?
  2. I live near Elmhurst so I took the LIRR to Woodside and then jumped on the 7 to backtrack. I try to avoid using buses whenever I can and I feel like this was significantly faster as the 7 showed up right when I went up the stairs to the Woodside stop. When the conductor came down to check regular tickets for everyone, I just held up my metrocard and said I was planning to transfer to the subway. He just nodded and moved on.
  3. As someone who used to live on Northern Blvd that subway would be a godsend as I hated having to walk south to reach my station. Has the MTA ever had discussions/plans on paper in the past to put a subway on Northern just out of curiosity? Wouldn't it be better to terminate it at LGA, making it a true "air train", and just expand the 7 to serve bayside on the other hand?
  4. What's the reason behind not allowing a train to be reversed into the station? I'm no signal expert but wouldn't the trains behind it be shown a yellow/red at the point that the overrun train is already in the station and therefore making the reversal safe with supervision? On a related note the only time I've had a train overrun the station was on the F line somewhere around Bay Parkway. They did the exact procedure you mentioned if I remember correctly. I thought it was odd that they overran it there as I don't remember the line at that point being on a downward slope but I hardly ride the subway to Brooklyn so my memory could be off.
  5. I can verify that on Sunday night I took the LIRR to Woodside and just had to flash my Metrocard at the conductor to get the free transfer when I was returning from JFK.
